I believe so. Just be careful and make sure the wick stays in place and is not caught in the threads when you screw the chimney back onto the deck.Can the tank be wicked without that little metal ring

Yes, and by doing that you also inherently shorten the length the juice has to travel, i.e. wick, in order to get to your coils.i noticed if i put my coils right up against the aitflow holes it reduces airflow but increases flavor
