I wish. Worst birthday of my life. Oh well. It's all good! :)

I'm sorry :( Birthdays as a whole suck. For my wife's 40th birthday, I decided to go romantic and searched and found her something she'd always wanted...a new baby grand piano. Then I planned to line the driveway with rose petals finishing on a path to the piano. Naturally, she loved it.

A few years later, it was my 40th. I was very excited. 40 is a big birthday and it SHOULD mean good presents. I got a DVD of the Left Behind 2 movie and some socks. Never had I mentioned wanting either. I considered taking up drinking at that point in my life but I'm too cheap to spend money on booze.

I did a 'short version' of my story. I don't know. I hope many people do it. I hope the requests make a difference.

Reading through some of the comments...
I wish in this day and age of spell checkers people would avail themselves. There are times when spelling is important. I know some people can't spell and I have nothing against them, but if somebody reaches a certain age I'm sure they realize that they can't spell. Why would they commit that to eternity when the fix is so easy?
On the other hand, God knows if anything will actually be read.

There are only 524 so far? Not enough....

When I was a child, celebrating birthdays was against my Mother's religion. So, I never had a birthday party. At seventeen, I left home. Workaholic. Life was real busy. Time passed. I was turning forty, and I still had never had a birthday party. I suppose, those around me, assumed they would have trouble getting me away from 'working' long enough to attend one. I suppose, they were pretty much right. Hence, no party. On my fortieth birthday, my Mother-In-Law requested my attendance at a fundraising event. Fundraising events were common in our lives. Political ones, for business reasons. Critter ones, because I love critters. I was not happy with her request, but I never said 'no' to any request from my Mother-In-Law. I loved her dearly. It was not a fundraiser! It was my fortieth birthday party! My first, and only. It was a huge affair. Hundreds of people. It was a strange mixture of many venues in one. Accommodating, the broad range of people in attendance. It was a mixture of black-tie, carnival events, country(horseback riding, bull petting, other animals on the farm), helicopter rides for all, etc.. It was a wonderful day! I loved that woman! And, she loved me! :)
