General RBA question

hi all, I'm thinking about soon stepping into rba land and have a generalized question regarding them. For those using stainless for wicks I'm wondering how it is that there is no shorting against the wick hole seeing the coil (metal) wraps around a metal wick. I hope this question is not too foolish but I would have thought that the wick hole should be insulated ?

An oxidation layer insulates the wick. There are generally two ways to get this oxidation, torching with flame or pulsing the coil.

Once the wick is properly oxidized it won't short on any part.
