Hi Uma

Nothing that drastic between the
mods.
So first generation REO Mini came color anodized with sharper edges and still had milling marks on the outside of the bodies. It really isn't noticeable until you pick one up and feel it then look closely at it. As time went on, and machine shops were hired & fired, the finish on the bodies has been refined & the edges softened for comfort. Anodizing shops were also hired & fired...and the finish has become more smooth & consistent. There are some slight color variations between the various anodizing shops too, so you will see some older models with different color blues, greens & reds....as well as some variations to the style of finish. You will often hear people refer to a satin or matte finish....these are by different anodizers and therefore have a different "feel" to them.
About the 3rd generation of the Mini, Rob did a polished version, where he hand polished every
mod before he sent them in for anodizing. These are fabulous, a wonder to hold. However, they show every flaw and that became a problem. There were too many "losses" due to scratches and flaws to make it feasible to continue to offer this finish. The time involved also became too costly. In the end, there was one polished run of minis and they have become rather rare.
Around the same time Rob had the contact tab or firing pin bent and pointed to lessen the contact surface making connectivity issues from oxidation/grime less common. Noalox is not needed as much as it was before.
The mechanical locking button has always been there in its same capacity with minor changes to the shape of the button. The spring has always been there serving as a fail safe for shorts with the only change being the screw that holds it on. The size has remained the same.
Perhaps when I have more time, I can photograph the mini mods in a line up showing their progression over time and post it in the measurements thread. It may be difficult to see the changes as they are very minor. I have to get back to work now, but later tonight or tomorrow I may add some more regarding the wood mods. I hope this helps fill the gaps for you and if you have any questions, feel free to PM me or Rob (redeyedancer).
