Ok so i was thinking about getting a genesis and i asked a buddy a question i wanna get more opinion on since the coils on top can you just drip directly in it like you would do a normal dripper. He said you can but he never uses one so i want to get yall opinion. And second can you use different coil setups like you would a dripper.

A genesis is a tank, you don't drip.
In my opinion the best kind of tank too.
Some people use soft wicks and they work well.

But genesis is designed to work with a stainless steel mesh wick.
Mesh Can be finicky, a bi%%h to setup for new users and make you punch the cat. But mmmm once you get it the flavor is killer ( depending on the one you get) and mesh is considered the most advanced to learn and master.

Like I said people stuff cotton in them all the time ( they should be burned for witchcraft)

In the rba section we have a genesis subsection, you can see many setups and learn about them to find out if this is something your interested in, types of coils and wicks etc.

Yeah there are a lot of wick and coil options for Genesis style atomizers. Some Genesis atomizers are built to be able to be turned into drippers too as well as being able to drip directly onto the wick and coil or fill material on the deck. If there was ever a Genesis built that wouldn't spill I'd likely have far fewer atomizers, I like gennies a lot!

Yeah I know, run Forest run!

Technically, you could, but I wouldn't. Usually the coils aren't directly over the drip tip, so you'd be dripping directly on the deck and the juice would have to work it's way to the wick, THEN wick up. In the meantime, you have loose wick around the deck. Even if you populated the deck with wick, it would take a while to get to the coil(s).

I never could get used to the SS mesh. I still want to try more, but my cat fights back and I'm out of mesh. I actually have some in the mail as we speak, so it's something I will revisit soon after a year hiatus from gennys. gotta make sure the torch is refilled. :)

And just a FYI, I would do a very unusual build on my AGA-T2+... 2mm Silica, tied in a loose knot kanthal wrapped around that knot. Ends turned into a horizontal U-wick. I have never seen anyone else do that but me.

Lol poor cats :(

While I love gennies I wouldn't buy one to use as a manual dripper. Gennies by nature are sort of like an RDA deck - just with a tank attached. If you only want to drip - dedicated drippers will be smaller while doing the same job. Some set up their gennies as what's called auto-drippers. Not that I know the specifics - but I believe it is about using soft wicks (blasphemy! :p) on top of the deck and tilting the gennie to pour liquids onto the wick.

No need for a torch to set up a gennie. Some don't pre-oxidize their wicks at all. I soak mine in e-liquid and set them on fire. Some torch.

If you have leaking issues, try plugging up all deck holes - which may stop proper wicking. Trick is for one of the plugs to have a tiny hole in it. Just big enough to let air in - too small to let liquids out. Then again there are quite a few variables and ways of setting up a gennie... so this may not work for everyone. For me - at least - I have nitpicked this to the point where I trust the gennies set up for pocketability not to leak. The others I just leave leaky and standing upright. You may of course get the occasional drop of condensed deck liquids seeping out the air intake... but the tank shouldn't leak if you don't want it to.
