you can get a metal replacement tank for Vivis if the heat would crack a plastic tank. Many other plastic tanks have been used with mesh wicks, and I don't think I've heard of any problems. I'd give hemp a try though, pure 100% hemp.
You will have to shake the PV a lot since the mesh wick would just be nubs sticking out of he head, unless you can bend it down and not have it kink so much that it doesn't wick well. However, just having a short wick and having to tip and shake to soak up is how they made some tank revisions that are top coils with only short wicks that people look at like it was a mistake because the wick doesn't reach into the tank and requires much more shaking to soak the wicks. Suposidly, the idea behind this is that the short wicks are better because the long full wicks tend to soak up only certain parts of the juice and gunk up worse and makes for a worse vape flavor/throat hit/etc. You can also make a hybrid wick and have hemp/cotton/silica wick full sized soaking up the juice and wrap a small section of mesh around where the coil wire goes.

Those questions are really good because once I was in your position and I did many things with my vivi nova.

I have been using vivi nova with plastic tank for about 5 months and I experimented with it and it never cracked.

I have tried short mesh wick and long u-shaped wick. Many people are satisfied with long wick but, in my opinion, I like short wick much better and I think it performs better. One time I spent about an hour making the wick and coiling it in vivi nova head. The effort I put into really paid off in the end. The flavor was very clean and nothing was getting in the way. The vapor production was really nice as well.

I think you should not be afraid of breaking it and really have fun with it.
Good luck.
