So as the title says I am finally getting into mech mods. I have read tons of battery safety guide and tips and what not and I have done plenty of research. I decided to go with a stingray and went with what I think is the safest and best bet was as far as batteries go and got the Sony vtc5. Now with that being said I came across a Sony vtc5 spec sheet and it states " Never attach any metal moving parts |magnet| to the top-positive, or the bottom-negative battery contacts" Now as most if not everyone that is familiar with the stingray mechanical mod knows it uses magnets for the bottom firing button. So I guess any input at this point would be helpful thank you for your time

I suspect the warning is more a liability concern than an issue... although if someone has a factual reason why it's an actual battery specific safety issue, I'd love to read the data.

Plenty of folks use nickel, silver and gold plated neodymium magnets in mechs - in direct contact with the battery positive terminal - and there are tens of thousands of mechs... that either came with magnetic buttons, or have been converted... where the magnet may or may not come in contact with the battery directly.

With some fixed tube mechs, unless you find the "right" length battery - due in some cases to limited battery pin adjustment travel/length - you'll end up with an (axially) loose battery, unless you use a thin magnet, acting as a spacer.

A more vaping related battery/magnet safety issue, as I see it - and this really doesn't apply to you, unless you encounter the short battery syndrome above - is folks dropping a magnet onto the positive top of a battery to fill the aforementioned gap... and not using a non-conductive washer (rubber, phenolic etc.) to keep the magnet "centered" in the event of an impact.
An impact could cause an unsecured magnet to shift laterally, and produce a dead short.

When I use magnets, I use K&J Magnetics D61G-N52, 3/8" X 1/16" gold plated discs, secured radially with 19mm X 9.5mm X 1.5mm, hard rubber washers. Never had an issue... but I avoid using them where resistance is less than 0.5Ω.

Things mech users need to know and have. Learn OHMs laws. Have an ohm meter. Use a good smart charger. Don't scrimp on batteries that means not using any battery with the word fire in it. Do not let the battery get much below 3.4 volts or you will shorten the life of it.
Use locking rings when not in use. Magnets are not desirable they can cause problems and are a point of resistance. never exceed the design of the battery. Having an atty lower in resistance than the mod is asking for trouble even with a good battery. The mod will heat up when that is done.
