After reading all these threads about the "dangers" of vaping, I am getting nervous. Have you guys actually experienced any physical benefits from switching to e-cigs? Not just the fact that you do not smoke analogs anymore.

Once again, all these negative threads are scaring the hell out of me. May need to quit this habit as well. AHHHH

Very true, but we DO know the effects of analogs on the body. Cancer. Heart disease. Death.

Each of the ingredients in juice (at least ones from reputable vendors) HAVE been deemed safe for consumption, and only the flavorings have unknown effects when inhaled. Not to mention 4 chemicals from vaping, and 4000+ from smoking.

At this point we only have each other's personal experiences. I've seen people having reactions to the PG, and symptoms consistent with analog withdrawls, but I have yet to see anything about incessant coughing, hacking up massive amounts of mucus, high blood pressure, and loved ones dying from vaping.

People share their concerns here. We really have no where else to do it, do we? Personally, I feel it is far less harmful than smoking tobacco cigarettes. I have noted many benefits: I have fewer headaches, my skin looks better, I can smell and taste things better, I don't get winded as easily, I don't cough up a bunch of junk in the shower each morning, etc.

I'll chime in here. For the past few weeks I to have had the same concern. I have spent quite a bit of time reading every report I can find about ecig safety. Many of the reports that claim they are unsafe, deem them so because of leaky cartridges, improper labeling, and easy access to small children and things of that nature. This kind of assessment isn't really helpful. It's the same as saying a Bic lighter is a safety hazard because it can start a fire. Nothing really gets down to the nitty gritty of what we all want to know, which is "Is the vapor harmful to my lungs?"

I don't think there will be a for sure answer any time soon since every flavor (easily hundreds) has its own new chemical make up.

I am neither supporting nor opposed to ecig safety. I have been vaping for about 8 months now, and the only side effects I have noticed have been ridiculous dry mouth(worse with some juices than others). Of course I have better sense of smell, taste, and feel better, but does that mean ecigs are safe? Certainly it doesn't. People walk around with brain tumors every day that if asked would say they feel great.

I can say in the past 2 months I have had a full blood work up, lung x-ray, brain CT. throat CT, Lung CT, and sinus scope. All scans were normal, blood O2 was 98%, although lung CO2 was slightly elevated. I asked the doctor about this, and was told that the elevation was too slight for concern. Does this mean they are safe? Of course not, but I don't know anyone who has vapped for that amount of time, and had such a great amount of tests, so I thought I would share the results.

In my opinion, only time will tell about the safety of these things. Like it or not, we are the first generation of trials being conducted.

You don't have to vape. You can try gum, patches, SNUS, etc. For me, it is a choice. There are people in my life that now bug me to quit vaping. But I am not going to. I don't smoke anymore; and I am so grateful for that and so appreciative for e-cigs making that possible. The possible health effects down the road are not known, and will not be known until some VALID research is done. But I do not feel like a guinea pig, and if I did, I would not be comfortable at all vaping.

Iwish I liked all vg, but I don't, and so, I vape high %ages of pg. But I am very careful about what I do vape. I only buy juices that I am assured contained no diacetyl. I do not vape cinnamon into my lungs, because I believe(but have nothing to back it up) that it can burn the lungs and airways. And I will never vape & drive. That's suicide where smoking is a slow kill.:2c:

I'm with player30, if you're are REALLY concerned about it there are other options that may be better for you. I personally love vaping. It's helped me kick analogs and, at this point, that's good enough for me. I am selective of my juices and try to stay informed on the new data that's presented to me. However, as others have already said, we aren't going to know for quite some time. You can take part of the equation out by vaping juice that has no flavoring but that's not for me. My question to you is, have you NOT seen any benefits from switching to e-cigs? For me they were evident from the start. Life is a gamble however you slice it, I enjoy e-cigs and I don't feel like a guinea pig, i feel like a pioneer who's been given an option that wasn't around for my parents.

I feel infinitely better:

Data: Chain-vape 36 mg juice at 6 volts for approximately 1.3 years

1. Blood circulation has dramatically improved.
2. Never cough anymore; lungs feel great
3. Ability to exercised increased dramatically
4. Smell and taste improved
5. Sex drive increased

Yesterday I had to go to the Courthouse on the 4th floor and the elevator was out. I was forced to take the stairs. I climbed four flights of stairs and wasn't seeing stars at the end. In fact, it wasn't an issue at all. This would have NEVER happened 3 months ago.

My Mom took up vaping 2 months ago. When I talked to her yesterday she was bragging about the doc weaning her off all her asthma meds. ALL OF THEM. She's over the moon happy. She is constantly talking about how great it is to sleep on her back again.

Neither of these stories are "scientific" but they are my personal experiences. I can't argue with that. I think you have many more people who have these experiences but don't need to post a question about it. I was so excited yesterday when I made it back down 4 flights of stairs and was still breathing at a normal rhythm but didn't start a thread asking if it was normal to breath normally.

I just think a lot of positive stories don't necessarily get posted.

PG is used in fog and "smoke" machines at concerts and clubs, and the safety of inhalation is well known. Search on Google should bring it up no problems. The nicotine is no worse than what is in regular cigarettes, and it lacks the chemical compounds of tobacco smoke. Vaping has actually been around now for quite a few years, moreso in China, and other than PG allergies and food flavoring allergies, there are very very few if any severe negative health issues reported.

There are some that have issues with vaping, that may or may not be related to it, but this forum is only a slice of e smokers.

Stars, thanks for sharing your experience, you must have some impressive medical coverage. :) I believe generally that the majority of vapers feel much better after giving up smoking via vaping after a period of time. Not sure if chain vaping won't have some health effects, but that's an individual decision.

I personally found that I quickly started breaking down the hand to mouth habit of smoking with vaping. Being a heavy smoker, that was the hardest issue for me with quiting smoking in all my quit attempts in the past. With my PV, all I needed to do is pull it out and take a couple puffs, not worrying about finishing a cigarette.

In the time I was vaping and smoking, I had about six smokes a day and maybe the equivalent of another six cigarettes in puffs on my PV. Being a 2-3 pack a day smoker, the change in observable health was very quick.

After discovering Swedish snus to try to eliminate those last few cigarettes, I stopped smoking entirely and now maybe vape a cig or two worth of puffs A WEEK. Not that that was my intention, just the way it's happened.

I look at it this way:

1) Everything in the juices I buy are food safe - including the flavors.
2) The temperatures involved aren't any higher than you would get baking in your oven, so no chemical breakdown occurs

That makes me comfortable enough with it to not worry.

I have to say this man, and again I am neither for nor against. Just because something is safe to eat, doesn't make it safe to inhale. I just hear a lot of people making that statement, and wander how they can see it that way.

I would agree with this not because I don't feel PV's are not safe - I do. But when you are cooking anything whether it be in an oven, grill or stove you do not put your face over the pan and inhale during the cooking process. So the liquids that are vaporizing are not being inhaled at the same concentration as with a PV.

Now I personally don't think it's enough to be concerned with but making a broad assumption is dangerous. There are many foods that are safe to consume when prepared in one method but dangerous as hell when consumed in another.

Could you name one? Because I can only think of that puffer fish, and that's when it's prepared wrong, not eaten in a different way.

And as far as food flavoring not being safe to inhale, most of your taste sensation is inhaled, your tastebuds are strictly backup players. Try plugging both nostrils and taking a bite of something. You certainly get a higher concentration with a PV, but it can't be horrendously poisonous to inhale if it's added to food.
