So I've been vaping for over four months now and took to it like a fish to water. Haven't looked back and have zero interest in real ones. I do use snus once in a while, only for those really annoying times when even a pv isn't doable. Over the four months I have had 9 people who smoked be really interested in the vaping world. I have loaned out kits, given advice, and shown people how to fill their stuff properly or where to get equipment.

Some use their pv for those times when they can't smoke real ones, a few gave up, and a couple of others enjoy it but still have a few real ones a day.

I can't say I'm frustrated, as it's really their own business at the end of the day, but it makes you wonder why it really works well for some people and not others. The only thing I can think of really is the wanting to quit factor. I've heard all the reasons/excuses....it's to harsh, people look at me funny, pain to have to order online blah, blah, blah. I guess some of us just find that sorta thing really fun :) I do. I'm well equiped now to the point of not having mail for two weeks...so I ordered some atties and extra liquid for kicks this week :)

Anyway, just rambling, but I guess my point is that it's interesting how I would have assumed out of 8-10 people someone would have taken up vaping more full time and ditched the stinkies! So far all of you who continue to vape and not smoke.....congrats :2cool:

I like you took to vaping very well. I have been vaping just over 4 months and absolutely love everything about it.

I bot my daughter a 510 starter kit for her birthday hoping she would give up the stink sticks, but alas, she did not. It is very frustrating for me, I guess I just don't understand, why you would not give them up with such a great alternative. She saw first hand how difficult quitting can be with the other methods, patches, Zyban, gum, cold turkey etc. NONE WORKED UNTIL E-CIGS.

She even commented on how good the house smells when I'm cooking dinner everyday, no burned tobacco smell, just good food being cooked. Anyway, I left her with this "You now know there is an alternative to analogs, when you are ready everything is already here to help you quit smoking"

I've met resistance too. Dunno why... some people don't care enough to quit, or they try one juice and decide that ALL juices must suck, or they buy crappy gas station kits and assume ALL ecigs suck.

And yet... they all ask to use my PV when I'm out drinking at the cabin. They just don't want to get their own... lol. Maybe the learning curve scares them off. There's a lot to learn.

Good point, could be the learning curve as well, but something motivated us all to learn! I sorta look at pvs like having your cake and eating it too! It's a great alternative for all the stuff one misses when giving up real ones. On my end the biggest bonus was that I had done two round of cold turkey in the two months before the pv. Therefore it seemed fully like a miracle machine :) My biggest issues with cold turkey was not being able to sleep. Never had that problem with the electronic.

I think it's all about incentive. The people have to want to quit. Have a reason to quit. The price of admission into vaping is relatively steep (granted, starter kit + juice should be cheaper in the long run). But the cost is up front. And if they don't like it then they're out $$$. It's an expensive experiment.

Everybody I've talked to have shown an interest in it. That's as far as it went. Maybe they want to do it "hardcore" cold turkey? I dunno. All you can do is give out info. When I started I wanted everybody on it. Now I don't care.

All people are different, some say took them months to quit the analogs, while still vaping, some faster a day or so, me took me bout 4days, until one night i was having an analog and the taste got to me, it tasted terrible and the smell is worse, so now 2 weeks in i dont miss analogs one bit, and working on getting a new piece of hardware to really enjoy my vaping

Everyone I shows has interest, but no one can commit to change. Possibly it is fear of change or fear of learning something new. A few people have switched, but still smoke the analogs when they can. I really do not care anymore either. I switched almost 8 months ago with my girlfriend, am far healthier and don't stink anymore. Plus I have started to save a good amount of cash now that I have found the Reos and BWB, avejuice. Just sticking to what works for me and not worrying about anyone else's problems.

I have quite a few people buy a device after seeing mine from friends to complete strangers. i have handed out quite a few business cards to those wanting to buy a pv. i think it is all about if you are really wanting to quit or not. No amount of asking pleading, or anything else is going to make some one quit until they really want to. i think the main reason why some people areson resistant to an e-cig is that they just aren't ready to give up that smelly analog

I'm in the same boat as a lot of you. My very first vape signaled the start of my very last cigarette. Substituting vaping for analogs was probably the easiest thing I've ever done in my life. It was a complete and total replacement. I've had no cravings, serious withdrawal symptoms, or second thoughts ever since I put away my Zippo lighter and replaced it for an eGo and a bottle of juice. It was an amazing, and magical transition for me. Why? Because I really wanted to quit! Period.

I've had a lot of friends ask "what the hell is that thing," when I first started vaping. Everyone showed interest, and a few even bought themselves a kit hoping it was going to be the "magic pill" that cured their inability to give up analogs. But all but one friend found one excuse or another to continue smoking cigarettes instead of vaping. And the only reason is because you really want to have to quit before you'll quit. Bottom line!

Luckily for me, and a lot of you fellow vapers is that vaping proved to be the perfect vehicle we needed to get ourselves away from analogs! All we can continue to do is to be encouraging to those that are still on the fence about vaping, and continue to remind them that there is an alternative out there. I keep reminding my friends that vaping changed my life, and if given the chance it could change theirs too.

PS: I found half a pack of analogs in my backpack yesterday morning on my way to work. I looked at the pack and smiled as I put them back in my pack with the firm knowledge that that same pack of analogs will continue to sit there as a token of my victory over them! I WON!!!

People that take to vaping truly want to quit and this is as painless and enjoyable as the real thing. For me now I wouldn't ever smoke an analog again. If someone REALLY wanted to quit vaping and managed to do it with some pill or gadget and they pushed it on me I would throw it back in their face. I don't want to quit vaping like some people don't want to quit smoking.

I agree with what many have said. I think where I was more confused was the fact that all the people so far came to me.....hardly a pv pusher :) Funny thing though, since I first posted this I ran into someone that was super keen and explained he had a kit confiscated by HC a few weeks ago and sorta gave up. So sent him a bunch of info and I believe he's already ordered. He has some of mine, loved it, wanted info and already ordered. Recent said he quit trying the patch and failed big time. So maybe this one will take!

But yeah, I fully agree, for those people who have quit unsuccessfully many times, and really want to, the pv is a dream!

I was speaking to a friend I got started about this yesterday. he still smokes cigs and now rarely vapes. I used to toss him juices and stuff but now I don't. we were talking about the ease of quitting and such, and he admitted he never really gave it a fair shot.

you have to have some willpower no matter what. and be of the mindset you know these things work. my friend only sees me and isn't on the forum. this place is really a big part of the support group I feel.

You are doing everything right. What I love about this community here in Canada, is people like you Sam.8 who take it upon themselves to share their knowledge and experience to help others quit smoking. I too have become very passionate in helping my fellow Canadian's in the fight. Your story really got me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. We don't get paid to do this, we take time out of our days to help out. And we do it because we see the effects vaping has on our health in a very great way. I am proud of ya!

So I just sold a guy that works with us in the idea of vaping! :)

I lent him my chinese unit for him to try and he loves that it's like smoking!

He's probably late 40's early 50's - long time smoker. His voice is so deep from smoking sometimes you can't understand him so he's eager to quite. He's looking forward to this new venture!

I'll keep you guys posted on how he does how he likes it :)

He will be buying an ego tank I believe it is with the highest nicotine available!

For people switching met with failure... The ones that tried and then gave up,
I've been pondering this a lot lately.
For some, I have a theory. It's the lack of MAOI's that are found in cigarettes! There's a underlining depression that cigarettes help dumb down. (Like smelling bad and having a lower pool of girls/guys to date from isn't depressing enough ..)

The looks never really bothered me (but then again I'm just using an ego + booster + ce2 and not something like a darwin or reo). The questions sometimes can be annoying (especially when I'm just running in to grab my morning coffee) but I know its mostly because of lack of knowledge, but that takes a good minute to clear up.

Haha that is because when you pull your 3' ego out it makes all the girls quiver, and any sci-fi nut wait for a portal to another dimension to open up when you blow on it :)

LOL

My one buddy at work calls it the magic smoking flute that I use to control all the smokers in the call center.
But I like your take on it better.

If only our VP would like us actually vape in the call center than I think I could convert more people. So far I've got 1 guy in here that got one and he is reduced his intake by half because of it
