I've only had the burnt taste once in 2 weeks of using my 510. I found out the cartridge was just about dry, so I filled it, dripped a couple drops on the atomizer, and presto, burnt taste gone.

One thing I've found is that the slower I draw on the mouthpiece the better the vapor. That, and don't violate the 5-second limit when using a manual battery, because I think holding the button longer than 5 seconds makes the little coil heat up too much.

I've only cleaned one atomizer, by blowing through it from the end that connects to the battery and then standing it on a paper towel and letting it drain. It works no better than my other atomizer that I've never cleaned. They both work great.

Another thing I've found is that if the battery is fully charged and I'm still getting weak vapor, if I drip a couple drops of VG (80/20 with distilled water) on the atomizer it seems to re-prime it and it's back in action.

Fluval is a brand of aquarium water filters that make for a decent and cheap replacement filler material. It works pretty well and wicks up the liquid pretty well. I hear others have used wool nibs with good success and I have not tried the PTB mod or bought the carts from Cignot to say how it compares to that. Fluval can be gotten at Petsmart and other pet stores. The kind I bought is the Style 2 A-109 I believe was on the box they are slightly bigger than a pack of smokes and cut into strips make for nice easy cart filler that slides right in to the cart.

VG will indeed increase the vapor while PG will increase the throat hit for those of you that are curious. If you are into big vapor then put a drop or two of VG into your normal fluid and your M401 will kick out more vapor than a 510 or any other E-Cig. That's one reason I don't really buy all the video reviews at face value. It's easy enough to doctor up some juice that I can make the lamest E-Cig that you can find look like a vapor machine. Not that I know of any cases of this I just know that it's possible and vendors have done worse.

If you do use the VG and PG to tweak your juice just be smart about it and only mix small amounts so you don't weaken your whole bottle of juice.

I don't clean mine!!! until it pretty well quits because I noticed that when I do, it's easier to get the burnt taste. Then I just store them away for emergencies or some mod project.
The whole process is also less of a hassle after modding a model you can just plug into a wall or car or making your own battery powered mod.

Oh and for the atomizers, I treat those as the consumables that they are and toss them when they die. These are not designed to last forever or to even be used in the manner that 99% of us are using them. They are designed for use when smoking a tobacco cigarette is not feasible, and that's it. They were not intended to be a smoking cessation tool or to replace tobacco cigarettes for consumers, that's just how it has been adopted.

Keeping that in mind, you will find yourself stressing less and enjoying these more if you look at them like that. Providing that your battery is running strong try replacing your atomizer once a month for the next couple of months and see if your enjoyment doesn't increase and the taste be consistently good. The atomizers are cheap enough that having a fresh one is a real possibility for everyone, not just those with the money to spend.

That's a good thing to do as well. I use Fluval in the 510 carts and it's a charm to work with. Cut it to the right size and slide it right in, no muss, no fuss. It wicks well, just as well as the original I feel and it's cheap as hell for a lifetime supply at any petstore. I bought a box of it for just under $7 and I can't see going through it all in quite some time.

Many people get tired of playing with carts and just drip on the atomizer. I do that at times myself but if I am in a position to drip I use a different E-Cig model anyway. I use the Dragon that I have for dipping at the laptop. I also have a KR808D-1 cartomizer and a GreenCig on the backburner. I prefer the cartomizers anymore for ease of refilling and for cartomizer life. To me they are just superior designs than the 3 piece models. I suggest checking out Nhaler.com for the cartomizers or for the 510 supplies. Personally I don't think you can find better juice than the HV Nhaler juice that is fine for 510 and other models, a HV mod is not required to enjoy them. You also get goodies in every order, and not junk but useful items for your vaping enjoyment from juice to tools you never know what else is in the box when it arrives.

You definitely need to do a cart mod like the tea bag mod or straw mod, etc. I've been using the straw mod for a while and just started the PTB mod (using a ribbon I got at Walmart that is of the same material.) I haven't had the "burnt taste" in a long time, not since I first started using a PV. Use a high quality liquid, keep your carts filled and atty wet and the flavor will be good. A cart mod will also reduce refills.

For more info on 510's you can check out the link in my siggy - there may be something else there that could help.

Otherwise, try a cartomizer style like the KR808.

ALL PVs have issues of some kind or another, but they can be reduced with a little maintenance and modifying. It just takes a little time and effort.

Think about all of the hassles with smoking that we got used to - refilling or buying lighters, packing them, yellow teeth & fingernails, smelling bad, standing outside, getting gum to cover up the smell on our breath, running to the gas station when you run out , the COST - both to our wallets and our health....we put up with so much, but just got used to it.

I made an adapter that allows me to put the cartomizers on my 510 batteries. I have a LOT of 510 batteries and chargers and PCC's etc.... hated to see that all go to waste.

The cartomizers aren't quite (yet) where I want them to be from a performance standpoint.. but it's a moving target and I know that things are going to get better... probably soon.

I simply couldn't find the PTB tea at any of our local stores. The Lipton web site said I needed to go to Illinois to get some! Wasn't going to happen.

Found an eBay vendor that sold the stuff. Now I have a LOT of tea.... lots and lots of tea. Way too freakin' much tea.
That's what I liked about using this sheer ribbon - yards of it for about $3 and no tea wasted! Cut it to 2x the length of the cart interior (it's 1 1/2" wide), roll, fold in half and put it in. Been vaping like a charm for the past couple of hours! Got it in the fabric section of Walmart, but any fabric or craft store would probably carry it! :D

(I attached 2 pics of it.)

I've cleaned mine before, on the advise from others. As a matter of sanitation, I didn't mind a bit. I'm not sure...but it may have killed one or two of mine...but maybe not.

I say if you are using the same one all the time, unless you can't draw through it much (any more) or it taste awful--leave it alone.

I have wondered why we don't see a lot of adapter mods for the 510 or the m401 battery to be used with the KR808D-1 and GreenCig carts or other model cartomizers for that matter.

I agree. I heard that one is coming. I also know that there is a 510 -> 901 adapter that you can get.. and then you cross-drill it for the vent and it will then take the cartos.

Or, you can stack the 901 -> carto adapter on top of the 510 -> 901 adapter (like in the video). Makes for a very long PV though!

Wow, lots of replies. I have to say I have heard all of what you are saying. I have a co-worker (how I heard about e-cigs) who has been using hers for months. She is totally into it and even does her own liquid she is quite knowledgeable. So, I thank you for all the replies, but the 510 isnt for me. It's just too much hassle. I'm looking into less of a hassle why I mentioned the kr808 was looking for feedback or suggestions. On a good day the 510 is awesome, but a bad day is bad--really really bad. I'm a drug addict. When I need my nic I need my nic and not to have to mess with it. Maybe e-cigs aren't for me. Will give the kr808 a try and if that doesn't work then its back to analogs.

Re-reading that it comes off kind of rude, but not sure how else to say what I'm trying to say. Sorry no offense to anyone.

I didn't find it to be rude at all, and I know exactly where you are coming from!

I continue to look for the 2-piece solution that will give me the performance of my 510 on a "good day". In my opinion, it's not quite there yet.. but it's getting close.

Until then, I will simply do what I have to do to get the number of 510 "good days" as high as possible. Frankly, I rarely if ever have a bad 510 day now...

Definitely try the KR808 then before giving up - it sounds like cartomizers are just what you need! They might run a little more in cost than the refillables, but I understand they are still cheaper than analogs!

There is a big debate going on about the differences in the KR808 vendor models, but it seems most think they are similar enough and the parts are pretty interchangeable. So, check out a vendor you trust and start with their KR808 and go from there. I think you've ordered from Drew at Nhaler before? He carries the KR808 and would be a good place to start! If you have leftover liquids, they can still be used to refill the cartomizers if you want to save money down the road.

Yeah, but I would offer one more bit of advice, I would take it that one step further and go with the GreenCig instead of the KR808D-1.

Don't get me wrong the KR808D-1 is a fine tasting and hitting E-Cig and I am glad that I got one. Since I got one though I see how it hits like an ultra light tobacco cigarette unless you cover up the airholes where the battery and the cart come together with either your finger or a band cut from the condom that comes with the carts which works quite well to "tighten up" the draw.

If your looking for the best though you might want to consider going that extra step from the KR808D-1 to the GreenCig. I wish I had bought that from the start. Not that I don't like the other models I have used to get this step, they all have their good points and their bad points. Definitely give the cartomizers a try before you hang up the vaping hat though. One good thing about these kits we are suggesting is that you will find plenty of buyers here on ECF if you find that you don't like them and want to sell them.
