We had an 11, then 8 and now 5 ???? Is there a statute of limitations on bad parenting ??

Sorry, I am sure someone will chime in that they didn't have parents or grew up in foster care or something equally as sad and make me feel like a real jerk now.

Toward the end I was wheezing a bit in the morning, clearing my throat etc. Coughing and spitting was just around the corner, my dad spend about 45 min every morning hacking up a lung into the bathroom sink.

Ya but smokers cough keeps your abs ripped ... no need to do crunches :)
And when I said daly basis I meant it .... are you familiar with the term "wake and bake" :)

You guys are truly funny. Love people that don't take themselves too seriously.

As the signature says, 35 year, PAD+. I'm 53 (the new 32) Smoked menthols.
Really loved to smoke but knew it was bad so tried it all....Chantix (can't believe they put that stuff on the market! made me inSANE), patches, gum. Saw Katherine Heigl on Letterman and it was like a HUGE lightbulb went on. Researched my head off, found this forum and that was it. Got a 510 starter kit and haven't looked back.
With over 1300 ml's of liquid in my freezer - I'm good to go should the FDA get fiesty again.
Can't wait until 4/11 when the Grands are available!!!

Very long story. When your parents smoke like chimneys they don't smell it on you. Mine didn't learn I had been smoking untill I was 12 years old.

OH, the movie "The Tourist" was when I saw my first e-cig and I immediatlely started researching and made my first purchase. Quit analogs the day it arrived.

I'm baked all day - but we can't talk about that on ecf I've been warned a few times lol

Bad parenting to a certain extent but kids are gonna do what they want behind your back, can't watch 'em 24/7. I remember getting caught with cigs when I was 12, yeah there was yelling etc but in the end it was futile. I guess you could stop a 5 year old though haha but by 11-12 nothing you can do.

I'm a 17-year-old trapped in a 56-year-old body. I smoked for over 40 years, started when I was 13. When I was a kid, everybody smoked. Fred Flintstone sold Winstons on TV. Over the years I smoked anywhere from 1 to 2.5 packs a day, but for the last 10 years or so it had been around a pack a day, maybe a little more. I tried to quit several times, but was never successful. I "quit" for almost a year back in '96 after a bad bout of pneumonia. I cheated off and on during that year, and always felt miserable, and finally started up again. Smoking-related cancer killed both my parents, but that didn't stop me. I figured I had picked my poison and that was that. I never had any obvious health symptoms from smoking until fire-safe cigarettes were mandated here in late 2008. Over the course of the following months, I started to develop a persistent cough and congestion. In the back of my mind, I knew I had to do something. In October of 2009, a friend let me try his electronic cigar while we were on vacation. I had never heard of such a thing, and was intrigued, so I started doing some research when we got home and stumbled onto the ECF. I ordered a kit from Vapor4Life, and 4 days after I got it, much to my amazement, I was done smoking. The KR8 served me well, but after trying a WetBox for a few months last summer, I knew a bottom-feeder was just the right device for me, so I jumped on the REO bandwagon as soon as the Mini became available, and have been happily riding along ever since.

I'm 61. Life sure is a dream. Where did it go? I woke up and here I am...many years later.

Anyway, I smoked 2 packs a day for over 40 years. Mostly Salem...menthol. I hacked in the morning, my sinuses in the morning were full, my breathing was getting labored and climbing a flight of stairs would wind me. All that bad stuff from cigarettes were taking a toll on me physically. Not to mentioned burned clothes, stinky smell, etc.

My girlfriend, who also smoked, casually mentioned to me one day about electronic cigarettes. She said they were really expensive and thats about the extent of what she said. I had never heard of such a thing as an electronic cigarette and I love Google. So Google it was and I found myself on this forum. Wow, said I, there is so much information. So I researched and studied and became somewhat obsessed learning about this elusive devise called an "electronic cigarette."

After several weeks of poking around the forum I ordered a Joye 510 outfit. I got it several days later, charged the battery, took a hit and I haven't had an analog since. That date was September 22, 2010.

I went through the Joye 510 phase, then onto an eGo and now the Reo Grand...only one Reo I might add. I think I've reached the end of that journey. When they make a PV the size of a cigarette, that the battery can last 24 hours and juice that can last all day with no user input, then I'll look into replacing the Grand. Chances are slim of that happening but you never know.

Well I don't cough in the morning anymore. My sinuses are clear. My new clothes have no burn holes. I climb stairs and I am slightly winded but not even close to how I was before I started vaping. I haven't has so much as a cold since I started vaping.

I have one daughter, one great son in law, and 2 grandchildren aged 3 months and 3 years. They reside in Cape Town, South Africa so visits both ways are too infrequent.

I have two exes, one great and one..errr..I won't get into that, a girlfriend I don't deserve, a cat and yes one, and only one Reo. Donations kindly accepted..Please make check out to "Little Sisters of the Holy Vapors."

I actually started smoking when I was in boarding school. I smoked during the summer months too, when I came home from school and, smoked when I went back. I was smoking things other then cigarette's, but we have a primary purpose here at ECF, so I won't talk about that, but it is what caused me to get kicked out of boarding school, and en I got into trouble at my next two high schools as well for it. My parents and I went to a therapist that suggested that my parents just go ahead and let me smoke in the house at age 16, so I wouldn't be sneaking off anymore. In the high school I graduated from (Omaha NE.) my house was the only one out of all of my friends house's that me and my friends could smoke in. I would come home sometimes to find three of my friends sitting at the kitchen table with my mom having coffee, smoking, and shooting the ...., they had been there for hours, and didn't want to go anywhere usually when I showed up. I grew up in the upper middle class neighborhood's, I meen it wasn't as if we were poor white trash, it kinda seems like that when I think back about being. Able to smoke in my house when I'm 16 now that I'm a parent. I've had so many talks with my 11 year old daughter about smoking, I hope she never starts, but I smoked, my wife smoked, and her mom still smokes, and she comes from a very rocky past, I didn't even know about her till she was 4. her mom had lied to me for years. As soon as I found out, my wife and I moved to the state she was living in, to get to know her, and had full custody within a year.......
Anyway.....I hope she doesn't ever start smoking. I'd kick her ... ;-)
Well id yell at her ALOT at least.

I'm 43. Started smoking at 17. I smoked less than a pack a day. A co-worker gave me a disposable e-cig, and I thought to myself, well, shoot, why would I smoke if I can use this?I picked up the exhale02 from 7-11. I bought two kits and pretty much told myself that I would just make the switch completely. That was August 16th of last summer.

No...don't feel bad. You're right, and I agree with you....but sometimes kids just outsmart their parents. Sometimes parents are so immature they think its so cool to share with their kids. And sometimes...some parents just aren't cut out for it and are oblivious due to some kind of mental illness.

I grew up in a rough neighborhood and pretty much followed my friends into smoking (Cigarettes & non-cigarettes, and even outsmarted my parents from ever finding out that I smoked cigarettes. My parents did what they had to do as good parents but I was just better at hiding and deceiving.

Jerk! :p

If I ever discover my kids experimenting with cigarettes when they become teenagers, I will do everything I can to discourage that habit. If I have to provide them with a PV as an alternative to tobacco, I will.

If they ever smoke anything else, Lord help them. It's tough being a cop's kid.

LOL...I'm surprised my daughter hasn't asked me if I was a cop in a previous life.

I'm 53 and started smoking when i was 15. Back then, Everybody smoked....so it wasnt a big deal. We even smoked at school, they gave us "smoke breaks".

Tried chantix, made me sick as a dog...so went back to smoking a pack a day, like always until I heard about vaping. I researched it a bit, ordered me some supplies from China and got them on Oct 3rd 2009 . I liked it...really liked it so i threw down the cig's and never bought another pack. I did try a puff off of a ciggy about a month later and it almost made me sick..

I"ve been around the Reo thread since near the beginning...and I have to say...after trying almost every other PV out there....My Reo's are my saving grace. They keep me vaping and loveing it ! Robert has the best mods in the business !

Oh...my avitar...I Foster Bassets....and that picture looks like a Rescue i had named Sally Victoria....she got adopted and I still miss her. I currently chase my Melvin and Bessie ( adopted fosters) around and I dont have any "foster kids" at the moment, but I'm sure one will show up before long.

I started smoking when I was 20 and old enough to know better. But back then (over 40 years ago) everybody was smoking, and cigarettes were 25 cents a pack. I was in the dorms at college and my roommate and all my friends smoked...it was hard NOT to start. So, 40+ years later (you can do the math but I'm not saying how old I am...it's a woman's prerogative) my sister, who has never smoked a day in her life, comes home from work and tells me about this girl in the next cubicle blowing puffs of vapor and how cool she says her little e-cig is. I went to the mall and found the Smoke51 kiosk, dropped a couple hundred dollars on junk that day, and started on this road. Within a week I had found ECF and had ordered a Joye 510. I have since owned that 510, several eGos, a couple of Rivas, a GGTB, the eGo tanks, and finally the REO Mini and now my REO Woodvil. I'm finished buying pvs. Now I'm home. All that spending took 9 months...during which time I've smoked 6 partial cigarettes. I haven't had a cig...or even a puff of a cig, for about 6 months now...and I'll never go back to smoking.

I teach English (Freshman and Sophomore Composition) and humanities at a 2-year college. I've been doing it for about 21 years and am considering retiring in the next 2-3 years. I have been a single parent since my kids were 2 years old and 4 years old, and now they're 28 and 30. I've wished I'd never started smoking so very many times, but I never thought I could quit. These things are wonderful. All pvs are wonderful....REOs are a cut above wonderful.

EDIT: One more thing....I just changed my user name on here from JCnewbie to JC Okie. Was tired of being a newbie, and "unsure" goaded me into it. :)

Here's the long version...

I started when I was 17. I smoked a cigarette one day. The next day I had two. The third day I smoked two packs. (Okay, the progression wasn't that fast, but it seems that way.)

I was such an addict that during a time when I was very poor, I could rarely afford cigarettes and did things I still can't believe I did... including rooting through public ashtrays for butts. (That a true and very sad story.)

I almost quit once when my doctor prescribed Wellbutrin for depression. That was before it was discovered to be a non-smoking aid and marketed as Zyban. My doctor asked me if I was having any side-effects. "Yeah... I noticed I've gone from two packs to three cigarettes a day without thinking about it." Alas, I had to quit Wellbutrin and I went back to smoking. (I was later put back on it and found that, at least for me, the second time had no effect.)

I actually quit for three months when I was unemployed and mature enough to not to search public ashtrays... those were three months of misery that never got any better. Plus I gained 20 pounds a month. Within minutes of finding out I'd been hired for a new job, I bought a pack of cigarettes.

I got my first e-cig in 2009... an Njoy Npro. Part of it was that my best friend hated cigarettes and always made me go outside to smoke and still complained every time she got within a few feet of me. The other part was that my downstairs neighbors complained every day to my landlord about how my smoke was sliding down the steps, creeping under their door, and ruining their lives. I almost got evicted until the landlord found out the neighbors also smoked, but not cigarettes. "I really don't care what they have to say anymore," the landlord said to me.

The Njoy was okay... I never actually quit, but I cut down a lot. Unfortunately, supplies were expensive and buying carts was expensive ($60 the first week). I tried refilling, promptly ruined the Njoy, and found I'd voided my warranty.

I got back into this January when a friend got one. I found that prices had come down and quality had gone up since 2009. The first month with an Ego, I smoked about 4 packs, which was better than two packs a day.

Then I discovered mods. Haven't had a smoke since then.

PS: I have to note that I have wanted to quit over the years and tried gum, patches, lozenges, Chantix, etc. They were all as bad as cold-turkey, except more expensive.

Old enough to have tried to quit every way possible! No really 55 and smoked for 42 years so yes young when I started. My DH told me about them last June 2010 and I came here and researched and bought a Joye 510, I quit the day it came and never looked back. I still can't believe it! To bad these were not around many years ago. One month later I upgraded to a Riva which I still use. Have 2 Reo minis, a JM and a couple Old Goat mods and awaiting a Grip. Loving the mods but there will always be a place for my Riva.
