Yes, i just received a GG the other day and I noticed that was going to be a problem, even if you had a locking button on it, the switch does not need to be depressed to complete the circuit. The design is such that any loose coins in your pocker or any steel that you may lay it against(a nail clipper, metal desk, lamp base, steel pin case, lighter case etc) anything metal, can short it out due to its design.

The button is made of metal and protrudes from the case, and is designed such that when you normally depress it, it touches the bottom of the case to complete the ground. The problem arises in that you don't need to depress it to complete the ground. Any metal laying across the button and the exterior of the case at the same time will complete the ground and thus fire it indefinetly and potentially cause a fire due to the overheating.

What if a rubber cap is stuck on the button? (Says she, not knowing the first thing about electricals  )

I wonder if Superglue would bond rubber to metal, or if a special (therefore costly?) connection would have to be created?

Or could the button be made of Bakelite* or similar? That would involve sourcing... :(

*Sorry, I'm an oldie, I can't think of the modern equivalent's name :D

UMMM that needs to resolved. Safety first......there has to be away to ground the GG from the inside. Someone could really get hurt if there not watch it. ouch those type of batteries could explode or if gets to hot and begins to leak it can cause a fire or leak out when you go to pick the GG up and burn your hands.....I would find away to fix that issue.

Brilliant - that's a nice design flaw. Good to know I've been carrying a fire hazard around with me.

just about every ecig will burn your --- off if it goes off in your pants, buddy

especially all the manual button ones,
this is not so much a design flaw,
this is a case where peeps have to use some common sense !!!!!!!!!!!!
and be careful where you put the danged thing down ha ha

This is actually easily fixed by owner. I went to lowes and found rubber cap that fits over button and round piece on body. covered it and doesn't misfire any longer. I lost atty is 1 day before realizing what was happening.

But one shouldn't have to fix a design flaw by covering up the button and body with plastic when you just paid a 150 bucks for it only to cover up existing problems. Not to mention, on the GG i have, you can't put a piece of plastic on the button as the button to collar clearance is too tight and the button needs to be fully depressed to make a connection, thus pushing the plastic right off. Plus, there is a brass collar that would also need to be covered.

It needs to be recalled, and the button redesigned with the exterior of the button being of a non conductive material such as plastic. When you get any product that is a known fire hazard and safety harzard, you need to fix it correctly, not just tell the consumer to cover it up with tape or glue or plastic which could still fall off and cause injury or property damage.

Just found your post on another area

Whew, just spent about an hour reading through this thread and I must say, that is a very nice looking unit! Are there any still available?

Huh thats same design of a mechanical Mod. Would have the SAME "design flaw" yet you say nothing bad there. huh very interesting.

At least with the GG Imeo has warned people of what "could" happen so they take precautions.

Bunny Imeo will be here in the morning. Wanna share??

I hope you're not casting nasturtiums on the intelligence of your fiancee just because she's a she, Mmm ;)

scylla

Not at all my fiance has a degree in radiology and is working on her RN degree as we speak. So believe me when I say she is very intelligent. IF your wondering there are no jobs here in my local area for radiology b/c of economy and over budgeting at the hospitals.

What I am saying is anyone can make that kind of mistake with placing of GG. For example what if you got a little tipsy and placed your GG in your change jar by mistake thinking it was your GG holder and went to bed...then awoke with a nic fit and grabbed your GG in dim light and not realizing that your battery leaked from over heating and burned the ever living crap out of your hand....maybe a stretch but could happen....or you could have a burned out your last atty and have to wait b/c your spares was ordered just the day before and have to use back up ecigs. When it rains it poors.
