So I've vaped in public before. But normally when I have I've been alone or in an area that was already ok to smoke in so there was not much chance of anyone concerning themselves with my vaping.
Today I went to a certain pizza place with the family & after we had our pizza the hubby & kids were playing a pinball machine sitting next to our table & we were just hanging out. I wanted to have a quick vape while we were sitting there & it would have been fairly easy to step outside (our table was right next to the front door) for a second & come back. But then it occurred to me, if I do that then I might be setting a standard I don't want to set.
So then I told my husband I'd be right back cuz I was going to ask the manager if I could vape there. He told me to just go ahead & do it & if they say anything then stop. But then I told him, no, if I don't ask first then I'm not giving him a chance to give me permission to do it.
And that's when it dawned on me. If I don't ask then I'm not giving the establishment an opportunity to give me permission. They might not care one way or another. But if I ask then it gives them the opportunity to consider whether they care about me doing that rather than being surprised & having to make some sort of reactionary decision. If I don't ask & just do it & then someone else asks them to make me stop smoking, then they are going to respond to that person. Why not give them an opportunity to respond to me instead.
So, I asked the guy if he cared & he said he didn't care as long as it didn't bother other people. And ya know what? It didn't bother anyone & now that manager knows that it's not really a big deal. So then that's just another business that's maybe a little more open to the idea of allowing vaping in their place & I think that's a good thing.
Happy New Year people.
