I really didn't notice this until a couple of months ago when people in different threads were saying why they don't bother with the contest threads.

Participation in contest threads is not mandatory to post on the forums.

I think the best idea so far is to simply ask people to sit out a contest if they have one a previous one. Thus eliminating the back to back winners and puts some strategy in play. People can then pass on "beginner gear" and go all out for the more desirable advanced user gear.

Either way I am thankful for the forum and the wealth of information here.

I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say.

In various other threads I've seen people say they don't bother posting in the contest thread as it's always the same people who win.

it looks as though some want change in one form or another, some like it as it is.As to the sit one out crowd, that would be like pulling teeth with pliers without novacaine.that wouldn't be fair either, not everyone is gonna be ok with whatever is set in stone.

As for the suppliers, they wanna see threads explode to get exposure but some of the folks in the contest don't wanna see the same people win,a conundrum.people are working and cannot post much, others are retired, outa work/disabled and can, another conundrum,so where is the happy medium.

Just remove weighting...

That is all, anyone that posts has a equal chance...

Pretty simple concept...

Leave everything else alone...
This is a very interesting concept. If weighting is removed will the thread still attract the same number of participants? Certainly it probably won't have the same number of posts, but it's the number of participants that is the exposure, not the number of posts.

I would venture to guess you'd still have people camped out in the thread as it does make a nice "conversation area". I would also venture to guess that it would cut down greatly on spam.

Exactly what I said before ...

If you want to make these contests fair .... Forget about the post count altogether.

A member that enters a certain giveaway contest gets one chance to win ... This
ECF member's name stays in the contest for a chance to win as long as the contest is still going on ... If this member actually wins, his name is pulled out of the randomizer for the rest of the contest.... Simple.

Why should we give someone that posts a simple "Good Morning" and a simple "Good Evening" and makes frivolous other one-sentence posts 50 times a day a better chance of winning than some guy that has a real job and can't sit at his computer 24 hours a day making worthless one-liner posts or posting silly photos to the contest thread on a day-to-day basis.

It's the only fair way to run a giveaway contest in my opinion .... Every ECF member that enters has an EQUAL chance of winning.

I didn't "try" to win the last one, and the current one but I still pop in to say Hi! from time to time, doesn't mean we still can't hang out in there ;)

Participants may be the same, but the views would likely be down a huge amount.

Single entry contest threads that I've seen just don't have the optics.

ECF has done very well in attracting some huge contests. Manufacturers likely look at thread size and total views as key metrics on the buzz factor, the bang for the buck.

I agree to a point but then a poster that works, they get home from working 8-5,spend time with family, eat then just too tired, then there's the ranch life (that's a 24 hour job in of itself) I know that one and they can't post cause they are too pooped to post, active military, people abroad/timezones.

I agree and disagree with a lot of folks here.Lifestyles dictate a lot of activity or lack of it.So how to balance out the equity.I for one am retired and sometimes have ample time on hand,ok I lied,I have a lady who keeps me busy but I hide a lot to post.I enjoy the people here and try to bring humor to my game.I didn't think of it as spamming.

I thought weighted or in english, post count, was the "norm".Would really love to see something EVERYONE can come together on and not have friction

The "views" from the people making large number of posts are a false positive. I can look at a thread 1000 times but it doesn't create any more exposure for the brand. The number of participants is the only true measure of exposure.

The thing is, it is the same people winning, and there are a lot of people who have said they can't be bothered to enter anymore contests.

I really didn't notice this until a couple of months ago when people in different threads were saying why they don't bother with the contest threads.
exactly...I don't participate anymore.....it's just not fun to me the way they are now...a little spam is one thing, but page after page with zero content, zero info, people complaining about others spam posts, all the while spamming their own....to me it is like walking into an ADHD day camp. Then you see it's always the people with huge post counts winning, and knowing I won't have the time to keep up....its just not worth playing under those circumstances
