2: Dang as if they aren't already too big, the IRS is looking at taxing tips that servers get who make as little as $2 an hour. Shame on them.
#2 The government has always taxed our tips. We claim them, and they take taxes out of our checks for the tips, too. That's why you hear about servers complaining that their paychecks are so small. Not only do our employers not pay us jack squat, then the government puts their hands in the cookie jar.

#3 Meh... it is what it is. We all pay taxes, I suppose. It just makes you feel an awful lot like a slave when you work so hard and your paychecks are so small, and you have to rely on the generosity of your customers to pay your bills. Its kind of demoralizing, feeling like that's what your employer thinks your work is worth to them. It sometimes makes me feel a bit resentful when we are slow and they have me doing cleaning or some other manual labor for next to nothing.

In one of the restaurants I was working in, the busboy made as much as many of the waiters thanks to tip sharing (tipouts). He was pretty good, I'll admit, but he didn't have to schmooze snooty, drunk rich kids for a buck. As to the paychecks, they often came to nearly $0 depending on hours. If the manager/scheduler didn't like you, you were the first person cut for the shift, meaning you came in and prepped (side work), waited one round of tables, and went back to rolling silverware and whatnot and went home with $20. If the schmoozing isn't enough, the money part makes the job pretty stressful.

Interesting fact I leaned after going from busboy to manager and everything between, white waitresses make the most tips, often depending on their age (-), waistline (-), and bra size (+++). Next is white waiters, and you can probably guess the rest. This has very little to do with the quality of service, although appearing happy and willing to please is key. IMO, if everyone had to spend a few months waiting tables at some point, I think we would all treat each other a little better. Wait tables too long though, and you might get burnt out on human interaction. Rant (?) concluded. ;)

I posted this earlier... smile, it confuses people. :)

Happy Friday! to those of you that can call it Friday
