I'm new here, and not really a smoker myself except out of habit in social situations.. but I have a lot of questions :)

My boyfriend used to smoke but made the switch to snus about a year ago. He wants to try e-cigs, but there's so much information on here, it's a bit overwhelming. We live in Norway, where e-liquids can't be sold so there's not much possibility to try things out to see what works best. I'm going to visit my mom in the US for a couple of weeks soon, and we thought we'd bring back as much as we could then.. but the choices have to be based on supposition.

I've read that it's hard to recommend a starting nicotine level for smokers, since it's absorbed differently with e-cigs. But does anyone have experience of switching over from snus? He uses Skruf stark white (10 mg nicotine per portion), up to 5 pieces in a day. Does this mean he would need about the same in e-liquids? He doesn't want to end up smoking more nicotine than he snuses, especially since it's mostly the psychological aspect of smoking that's kept him from quitting.

Thanks!

As far as vaping and using snus, I'd suggest starting with both 12-18mg liquid and a higher 24mg. He can vape as he feels the need to and if the 24 is too high, he can combine it with the lower mg liquid to cut it down if it seems too high or you can cut it with food grade (USP) vegetable glycerin.

Just be sure to purchase refill liquid right away when you buy a kit. Most use around 2-4ml a day, so a 30ml bottle goes quickly. Prefilled cartridges that come with new kits aren't very good and don't last long (which cause the most grief for new users) and you'll need to top them off frequently if you don't buy one of the Tank type models (which by the way, might be a good option). He can try the prefilled levels (prefilled cartridges come with the kits labeled low, medium and high) to see what he prefers.

You can purchase blank cartridges for your model of e-cig (or cartomizers - depending on what model you buy) and fill them yourself with the bottled liquid you buy and clean out cartridges to refill with liquid as well.

This ECF member is also in Norway View Profile: slaabrokk - E-Cigarette Forum. Perhaps PM them to ask some questions for tips and pointers?

If you let us know where you'll be visiting in the US, perhaps we can help you find someone locally to buy from while you are there, perhaps being able to go to a walk in shop if one is in that State.

Once home, you'll do best to order liquid and parts from European countries. Here is a list of vendors: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/where-can-i-get/105053-e-liquid-europe.html#post1580312 or from China such as Health Cabin (members from Norway have ordered from them with no problems). Health Cabin's forum on ECF is here HealthCabin and you can find a link to their website in the forum.

I'd also recommend both of you read the info here http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ping-illustrated-guide-e-cigs-part-1-6-a.html which may help to answer many of both of your questions and help you to settle on a model to look for.

Wow, lots of helpful info :) Thanks to all for the links and advice.

My mom lives in WY, and I'll be driving through CO (Denver is my starting point), UT and AZ while I'm there.

I bought the same model as my mom uses, at least to start with.. the kr808d-1. I'll see what he thinks about it, and look through the other possibilities. Is there a difference in e-liquid from the US and from China?

Is there a difference in e-liquid from the US and from China? Yes. For one thing, I think most (all??) of the China stuff is 100% PG based. US vendors usually give you a choice of a PG/VG mix. AND....I've found that the US e-juice is WAAAAAY better tasting. Of course, taste is totally subjective. The more VG you have in the mix, the more vapor you get (within reason.) I've heard over and over and over (and agree) to buy US e-juice.

I prefer to use Snus, but here in the states, vaping is much more "socially acceptable", since everyone thinks I'm using
portioned dip/chew (very much looked down upon). I'm going to warn you, vaping is going to get him back to being a "smoker" concerning the nicotine intake
(peaks and dips) and frequency (chain vaping). Snus keeps you much more "leveled" and not overstimulated. I use
about three skruff stark portions a day, and 4 or 5 standard General Match (although for only about 5-10 minutes at a time).
Using SNUS, I'm used to a certain consistency, so I end up "chain vaping", and 24mg e-liquid seems to be just right for me. If he is using stark, that would certainly be my recommendation. Hope I could help.
