OK, so I took my first puff today off a PV. And it was exciting and disappointing all at the same time. It was exciting because I've bought a bunch of stuff and can't wait to get it it and I was thinking this is going to finally be the way to quit smoking cigarettes and how new and all of that stuff. It was disappointing because I broke down and went to the local Pilot and bought a Mistic disposable. I put it together (oh I just could wait) and I put it to my mouth and I sucked on it and ca-poweee, I had taken a hit on a PV for the first time in my life after smoking analogs for 40 years. OMG! But then it hit. My stomach started aching, the flavor (tobacco I guess) really sucked (tasted like a 2x4), and I felt nauseous like I'd taken 16 hits on a cig right in a row. OMG! What a let down. So, I hope that the eGo I bought and all the other flavors make it a good experience because I'm not sure I can deal with the taste of wood all the time. Plus the dumb thing kept fogging after I stopped puffing on it. Had to disconnect the battery. Help me out here. I didn't just waste a bunch of money did I? I mean it is going to be better with better equipment and juice, right? Regardless, I think it will be and I still can't wait to get my stuff this week. :) Thanks for listening to a newbie.

You bought a POS at the corner Pilot. I don't know what you ordered, so I can't say if it's better. What I can say is there is a LOT of great equipment and juice out there. Hang out here, read, and ask questions. This works. In a few months the cigs will taste like burning wood, you'll wonder how you smoked them.

I'd say the e-cigs sold at gas stations are probably the most over-priced, least satisfying PVs out there. In a pinch it'll get ya by, but I'm sure your kit will curb your cravings alot more. Welcome to ECF, bobdog!

Stick around. There's a learning curve to vaping. Don't be discouraged if something doesn't satisfy your "need". There are a hundred other products that will foot the bill. Be patient and ask as many questions you need to to get away from those stinkiez!

BTW, there's no time-line to quitting analogs. There are "other" substances in cigarettes to keep people addicted, other than nicotine. If you find yourself smoking a little bit as you transition into a vapor-filled happiness, don't be discouraged. I, personally, smoked for a few weeks after starting e-cigs, albeit significantly less. Others have gone this route, as well. Hell, I carried a partial pack of analogs in my pocket, untouched, for a week for "just in case", until I decided I was "cured".

Congrats on your decision!

Woow! I just went out and smoked and analog an by the time I got back, this thread had 10 replies and was 10th or so down the line. I am happy to see such a wonderful, supportive crowd here and from what I've read so far in the last week, that's all I see. No bickering and no negativity. Thank you for your support and I'll take you up on your offers to ask and ask some more. Dang, I can't wait for my real stuff to get here. It sounds like I can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel and I haven't even begun. Thanks again.

Tim

Edit: You all are great. What cool forum.

Nicotine level is a very personal part of vaping. Once you get your gear you'll have to experiment with different strengths and see what works best to keep the cravings at bay. You may want to do as a lot of us tend to do and vape a much lower strength in the evening so as to be able to sleep. I generally find that 18 to 20mg is good until about 6pm then I cut it down to 10mg for the evening.

Yeah, I was wondering where to start. A lot of these companies sell juice at 24mg/ml of flavored juice and that seems like and awful lot since I currently smoke Camel light analogs. I was thinking I might need to get some PG and thin them down to 12mg of nic. Can that be done?

You don't want to go too low,you can always cut it down with a little VG or distilled water. Most people start at around 18-24 especially until you get off cigs.

I vape 24. When I started I got 12 & 24 and figured I could mix them, but 24 was good for me. My Mom started with 36- she needed it but within 2 weeks decreased her nicotine and now vapes 6 mg.
