Good first RTA's?

I'm looking to get into rebuilding as I love the customization and the creativity I can put into it, but this begs the question... what are some good rta's for a beginner to start with that are solid quality but easy to work with? I want something that'll last awhile and that I can experiment with but without a complicated deck.

My first was an EHPRO Squape clone won in a giveaway from madvapes. Very noob friendly. Simple insulated deck making shorts nearly impossible. Limited to MTL vaping tho and with simplicity come limitations as to complexity of builds. I believe the newer Squape R is more versatile, with three different decks and adjustable airflow. There are clones of these also. I doubt that either Squape would be capable of sub ohming. BUT I'm nowhere near being a coil building guru myself.

I sub-ohm and I am most definitely a mouth to lung hitter. I've never understood how people can be anything but a mouth to lunge hitter... but that's simply me. I've really been enjoying the flavor production from the Uwell Crown's dual coils, so I would like to be able to build dual coils.

For what it is worth, here is my experience with learning to rebuild.

First try was a BF reomizer for a sqounker, I nailed it on the first shot.

So, bought a LEMO 2 last January, still can't get it to stop leaking.

Bought a Goblin mini clone, still can't get it to stop leaking either.

Russian 91% has been holding well for me for a little over two weeks.

I have no experience to give any advice whatsoever, but after a lot of reading on the forum and watching YT vids I decided on the Kanger Toptank mini for my first one myself (should be here next week).

It's a pretty complete kit, it comes with several different pre-built coils as well as a RBA and most people seem to agree that it's pretty easy to build on. I couldn't find a whole lota reviews on it but the ones I found were pretty positive. It appears to be the new and improved version of the Subtank mini that everybody seems to love so I'm fairly confident it's a good one to start with, but time shall tell.

Are leaking problems common with RTA's? I may go with an RDA then if that's true... but I don't like the idea of having to re-drip so often. Hmmm.

Most leaking issues with RTAs are due to wicking issues. Some of the bottom fill RTA's may be prone to leaking because of the bottom fill screw. Once you learn how to wick a particular RTA, you usually won't have leaks.

That is a regular tank with the option to use an RBA coil. The tank itself was not made for the sole purpose of rebuilding I believe, which is the type of RTA I am looking for. A tank that was made for only rebuilding in mind. Thank you however for trying to help out, I appreciate it

EDIT: Correct me if I am wrong, it just occurred to me that perhaps all tank RBA's only have the option to use an RBA coil and aren't for solely rebuilding? That is what I am looking for however, something that is manufactured for the sole purpose of rebuilding.

It actually sounds like you're in-between MTL and lung hitter if you sub-ohm and use a Crown. Dual coil RTAs aren't really good for MTL. A single coil tank is a good way to start, something like the Bachelor, SXK Wine Tank or larger Kayfuns. If you find yourself liking that or wanting more, then you can move up to a dual coil RTA.

A lot of people got into RTA's, myself included, by starting to build the RBA in sub tanks. The Kanger STM, in particular, was easy to rebuild and was a good way to learn. I never owned a Crown, but have heard how fiddly the RBA section is, so that doesn't sound like the best option for you.

So then there are RTA's specifically for rebuilding? Yeah, I wanted to rebuild a couple weeks ago and was thinking about the Crown's RBA but it has a lot of terrible reviews so I strayed from it. I don't want any leaking potentially damaging my mod.

For ease of building dual coils, RTAs or RBAs with a velocity style deck are best. For RTA's the Griffin is a great tank and so are the Aromamizer/Boreas tanks. The big difference between these two are wicking methods. I would generally say you want an RTA that has jfc, juice flow control. It just makes refilling easier and lessens chance of leaks. Top fill is always preferred as well.

For RDAs, same thing, velocity style decks are just so easy to work with. I would just suggest getting a velocity clone, most can be picked up for less than $10. I have a Tobeco Velocity clone, they make a very good version and it was about $15.

I'm thinking about getting a Griffin Two Post. I've read that the two post deck is spacious and versatile while being extremely silly easy to build on and is good for dual coil builds. While it's only a 3.5ml tank, it's better than having to constantly drip. I've also read that there are virtually no leaking problems, the airflow is solid, and that it is well built.

Does anyone have one of these perchance? I'd love some more input from a personal owner of the RTA!

A velocity style deck is a deck with just the two posts. It was considered a big advancement when it came out. No more offset coils. It is called "velocity style" because the first atomizer to ever feature it is called the velocity rda.

I just got into rebuilding not too long ago myself. Started building on a couple subohm tanks with the rba sections. Then I got my first rta a couple months ago. I went with the zephyrus v2, and I'm very happy that I did. It gives a stellar vape IMO. And I had no troubles building on it, my first attempt was a success. You just have to build small inner diameter coils and build them close to the center post. Some say it's not great for beginner builders because the deck is a bit claustrophobic, and if your coils aren't close enough then they will touch the walls of the cap and cause a short. It really isn't tough to get them close though. Wicking only took me a few tries to get right. Haven't had a leak since a couple days after receiving it in the mail.

There's 2 mtl rta's I'd suggest the lemo 2 and the wine.
