Does "external battery" mean a removable battery?
Yes it does.

Internal batteries generally aren't removable, and charged while inside the mod via a microUSB cord.

External batteries are removed from the mod and charged in a dedicated box Li-Ion charger. This setup is generally preferred over charging via micoUSB.

-External charging is faster and arguably safer.
-All batteries have a finite life span. With an internal battery, when that battery ages and is no longer effective, the entire mod must be discarded.
-With external batteries, when the batteries are no longer effective, you simply replace them with a $5 - $6 replacement and continue using the same mod.
-The "weak link" with microUSBcharging is it can cause natural wear and tear of the charging port. The tiny microUSB connection is a poor design for daily charging purposes. The primary purpose of a microUSB port is for firmware updates for the processing chip.

Welcome to ECF. There is tons to learn about vaping, and it can be as inexpensive (or expensive) as you make it. Given your starting gear you have nowhere to go but up (although, congrats on greatly reducing your cigarette use with it).

The next step would be a regulated mod and tank with more ability to customize your vape in a lot of ways. You have the option of something more powerful than the Blu, that still will probably provide more vaping options that mimics the draw of a cigarette (Mouth to lung vaping) or something with far more vapor (Direct lung vaping) that is lower nic, and like inhaling through a straw, can make some rather large clouds. But a regulated mod would be the next logical step, not a mech mod (those are typically considered more advanced, and they can be dangerous without a LOT of knowledge although if you want to vape one, you can learn how at ECF, I just wouldn't suggest it for setup number two).

Best of luck, welcome, and if you want suggestions for mods I might talk a bit about what you like (and dislike) about your current setup. Regulated mods and tanks are typically a bit less expensive than pod or cigalikes and typically will be more robust (especially the right setup). Etc.

Welcome to ECF and congrats on moving away from cigarettes!

Thanks, Anna. I'm glad to be here. Yeah, I guess there is a lot to learn. Along those lines, I think I still don't have a clear understanding of what a regulated mod is. The webpage on the EGO AIO ECO says it puts out a constant voltage and has protection circuitry. Does that qualify it as regulated?

The main reason I'm already looking beyond this vape pen is because most of the heating coils haven't performed as well as I expected them to. Aside from that, I like everything about it- a lot- and it has exceeded my expectations as a cigarette substitute. The coils start out strong, with a very easy, smooth draw. When I put the pen to my mouth and push the button, I can feel a stream of air being pushed out of it. That lasts for about a day. After that, the airflow decreases to a level that isn't nearly as airy, but still smoother and airier than a cigarette. But after that, the airflow declines rapidly to the point where I have to pull hard on it to get anything out of it, and the mouthpiece gets uncomfortably warm. I've read and heard a lot of descriptions of what happens when a coil goes bad, but I haven't observed any of the symptoms of a bad coil. Most of the coils I've used with this pen have just lost too much airflow over a few day's time. Because of that, I'm thinking about trying one of the smaller box-shaped devices with interchangeable tanks and coils.

This may be more battery related than coil related. The pen style devices battery power drains quickly, especially if chain vaping or pulling hard on your hits.

Congratulations! I was in the same shoes you are in. Cigarette free for 2 1/2 yrs now. Tip for you, since you seems to be enjoying the device you are using go a head and buy a 2nd to have a back up, that way your not without. Glad you joined and good luck.
Congratulations to you. You're right, I'm enjoying this device a lot- when the coils are working up to snuff- and I was considering getting a second one.

I admit I've been chain vaping on it more than a little, but this pen is advertised as having a long battery life and no dropoff in performance before the battery drains completely, and it just stops working until it's charged again. Since the only other vape device I've used is the Blu, I can't vouch for the battery life in comparison to a lot of other products, but when the coils work like they're supposed to, I actually haven't noticed any weakening in performance before the battery drains and it just shuts off.

Well then the coils are probably the issue. I would advise you upgrade your equipment and keep the pen for a backup.

It looks like its a 650 mah if its the joyetech ego aio eco
Judging by how much I used my 1000 mah pen, it should last 6 hours? Trust me, when you go up to a 2000 mah internal or external battery you will LOVE it, I'm now only charging once a day instead of at least twice.

    And I'm still a chain vaper :)

If there are things you don't like about the device, well, non-adjustable wattage is not something I totally care for. I think that it's great this setup is working for you, but yes, there is a world of other stuff out there to explore, perhaps starting with variable wattage. But it's great that what you have is working, and I have many, many vapes that I like, so.... Experiment a bit, maybe?

I haven't paid any attention to exactly how long the battery lasts, or how much vaping it can take before it dies, but I would guess it lasts a few hours longer than that. I've had to charge it twice a day a a few times, but usually it's just been once a day.

Yes, I think so. A few times, I've removed the coils from the battery and screwed the mouthpiece onto them. The airflow was still way too tight when I sucked air through them.

Any idea on what kind of gear you would like to upgrade to?

Except for the problem with the coils, it works very well for me. The size, shape and weight feels just right in my hand, and I get more flavor from it than I did from the Blu Pro.

Yes, I may well experiment. I can foresee acquiring a collection of small pod and pen devices, trying to find another one that works for me, and has more reliable coils. I don't really want to do that.

Yes. I'm looking at smaller box-shaped devices with interchangeable tanks. I assume the ECO cut my craving for cigarettes and the Blu didn't because I didn't use nicotine salt e-liquid with the Blu, but I don't know that for sure, so I'd want something that is comparable with both kinds of e-liquid.

https://www.myfreedomsmokes.com/kroma-a-mod-with-zenith-tank-starter-kit-by-innokin.html This is a good kit. Mod has an internal battery and the coils are good on the Zenith mtl tank. MFS is a good site. Code NEWMFS15 will get you 15% off your cart if you are a new customer.
Eleaf Pico 25 is a great little mod. Single 18650 external battery, will accommodate up to 25mm tanks, 85 watt. The Kanger Toptank or original Uwell Crown are both good. Both have a good selection of coils, both have versatile air flow you can experiment with. Both are also good at helping you dial in what style of draw you like best. IMO the Pico 25 paired with a Toptank or a Crown is the best combo for an upgrade from a pen style vape.

Thanks for the information :thumb:. I bought coils from MyFreedomSmokes, so no new customer discount. The Zenith kit is one of the ones I've looked at. I did run across an Eleaf Pico, but I'm pretty sure it was a different one, with the button on top of the box, which looked a little awkward.

All the Picos battery ports are on top. The fire button is on the side, the up/down buttons are on the bottom.
