My old man and I started vaping last July, and we both quit smoking in favor of that pretty quick, or at least I did. He really did make an effort, but a couple months along I could smell the telltale odor of cigarettes in the house, and I knew he was sneaking them in the bathroom. I asked him about it, and he denied it all up and down. Later I saw that when he took his things out of his pants pockets there was a lighter. I asked him about that, and "Oh, that's just in case someone else needs a light." Yah, sure... A friend of ours confirmed for me that he was smoking at the karaoke place he goes to when I'm working.

So I figured that the little cigalike things he's favored because he can slip them into his shirt pocket were not satisfying him and he had to smoke to get what he needed. Well back when I was using eGo rigs I wasn't satisfied either, and kept looking and learning. I ended up with a mech and a sub-ohm rba which did the trick for me.

So I got out one of my old mechs, stuck an AGA-T2 on it, stuck a 400 mesh wick in that, coiled it for .7 ohm, filled it with DIY juice and presented it to him. He tried it. He liked it. He really really likes it! I have not smelled cigarettes in the house since. He doesn't take it with him when he goes out, unless I go with him, and then I carry it in my purse, because he can't slip it into his shirt pocket, and he will never learn how to build it and maintain it, I do that for him, but at least he's not smoking in the house and lying to me about it.

Yeah, there are disadvantages to this vaping thing, aren't there? :)

Funny, funny!! I got a good chuckle out of that. Thanks. :)

Equipment & liquid, I think, are really vital in quitting smoking. That was a big bump up Vaslovik & looks like it
worked for him. Awesome!

I have no desire for building, dripping or diy liquids so I'm very glad & feel fortunate that I was satisfied with
cartomizer tanks and a basic v.v. ego style battery.

Gord - I hope that isn't what it takes for my hubby.

Watch out. If he's anything like my husband, you're vape gear may be in danger of vape gear thieving. My husband wanted to stick to egos for carrying in his pants pockets. He also found larger devices to be too geeky. So he didn't have to turn in his cool kid card he refused to learn anything about building coils, ohms law, ect. and refused each upgrade I offered. So, I upgraded myself to the itaste VVv3 and suddenly his egos were inadequate and he pretty much stole them by continuing to smoke when I took it to work with me. If I wanted him off of cigarettes, I had to leave it with him. Then I upgraded to the MVP 2 and bought a second VVv3 as my stealth option. He took the second VVv3, because he was still smoking when the one he had was charging. He refused to use the ego at all at this point. I tried to get the VVv3 back by getting a second MVP to give him. He didn't bite, the box shape was where he drew the line.

Last month I upgraded to the Provari Mini as a 6 month quit smoking gift to myself. Got it in pink to protect it from him. It was a good thing I did. He started using it at night while I slept and drained the batteries by morning. Also decided he liked my Kayfun that I had on it and took one of those from me the first day I had them. He started whining about the iTaste VVv3. The charges weren't lasting long enough, the battery pin had to be pulled up, they were dying, etc.... I broke and ordered him a black Provari, even though he denied wanting one. Lo and behold, he stalked the mail last Saturday waiting for it like I typically do. It's good he's not smoking anymore, but if I want to keep anything in tube form it needs to be pink. I'm a girl, but I'm not really THAT into pink. Also, I'm now stuck maintaining all of his rebuildable tanks. I just got a Stingray clone today, and two additional Kayfuns. He WILL end up taking one of those, and I doubt the Stingray is safe. It's tiny in 18350 mode, and it'll fit in his pants much better then the Provari. One of the Kayfun clones i got is in black, to match the black copper Stingray. The set up looks awesome. Too awesome....

Oh, and PS - He now claims I should sell his iTaste VVv3's. I told him I couldn't due to the issues he told me about that lead to the Provari. He now claims there is nothing wrong with them. Sigh... He made up all those issues just so he didn't have to ask for an upgrade and so he can keep pretending he's too cool for vaping.

Oh yeah! Your guy sounds a lot like my guy! I also got stuck maintaining his vape, he will never learn to wind a coil or roll a wick. He has no idea what ohms are either. As long as he's got me to do all the work of it he'll vape on, and I'm okay with that, if it keeps him off the cigs. I still can't be sure he's not sneaking them when he's out somewhere I'm not with him, but at least he doesn't smoke in the house now and lie to me about it when the smell is all through the place. Geeeezzzz.....

Aw, that's awful! Lol, as I guy, I have to say, tinkering is in our blood. I was so happy to start rebuilding. I was especially stoked when I found out it required a torch! There are times that I rebuild my attys just because I feel like playing with the torch :).

As for being cool, with as many vapers as there are now, it's become much more mainstream than when I first tried to quit, 3 years ago, using BLU's. Heck, when I go to the fishing pier or even the gun range (my 2 other hobbies, fishing and competitive shooting...IPSC), there are guys who use to smoke that now vape.

The thing that concerns me about the possible thievery of the Stingray, is that he won't know to replace the battery until it's completely drained. I start talking about the technical part of vaping, and a glazed expression comes over his face. He'll want it though. It's small enough to be hidden in his hand with a Kayfun Lite on top while he vapes. He just got a new job, for which he's planning on using cigalikes as his stealth gear, and I KNOW that isn't going to work after vaping on a Provari plus Kayfun regularly. This first mech mod of mine is at risk of becoming his stealth set up, and he hasn't bothered to educate himself on batteries. What have you told your guy on when the battery needs to be changed, and did his eyes glaze over during it?

Ever think about buying him a REO and a RM2?

6 mls of juice, an RDA that you can build for him and it fits in a pocket. I carry mine most days and once in a while the drip tip pops off. I also time when I put it in my pocket. Three or four pulls after a squonk and I'm ready to roll.

Helped me big time!

None of his softball buddies are vaping yet, so to him it's still decidedly uncool. The only guy he knows that vapes is my brother, who is a techie geek half the time, and a hipster the other half of the time. The hipster aspect of vaping here in NYC also has him unwilling to admit to liking vaping. He himself, did however, get one of his buddies partially on to vaping with cigalikes, which are apparently slightly "cooler" then vaping with ego sizes and up in his circle. It's at least not something he gets ribbed about on the team. I don't use a blowtorch to build. I cheat. I check the ohms, through it on my MVP, and fire the coil. While it's hot, I use tweezers to squeeze the coil together, then check the ohms for any changes before I fire again. I do have a blow torch though. Perhaps I should use it in front of him next time. Maybe the thought of playing with fire will be appealing.

I bought three Provari's in the span of one month. I can't afford a Reo at the moment. Plus, all the bottom fed toppers. At least with a Provari, he has his cartotanks for back up to the Kayfun. His all day vape is Pink Spot Swagger. He slays coils with that stuff.

Well he vapes a lot less than I do, and since he won't take it with him unless I go with him and bring it I have ample opportunity to make sure he doesn't over-drain the battery and maintain the build for him. He's really got it good, no maintenance vaping on a sub-ohm mech and RBA. I checked his battery yesterday and swapped it out for him, and he didn't even really understand that. He also forgets to charge the batteries for his cig-alike and eGo rigs I got him.

High maintenance male he is.
