Somehow, this test takes its time. The reason is that I now operate two (out of five) cartomizers, and both are quite uncomfortable to vape. The first one you read about, and with blowing through the battery hole and letting it rest for a night it's vapeable for a puff or two or three, then it still becomes very hot. Probably should throw it away. It just happens to have 20 drops of one of my favourite liquids in it :(

I filled a 2nd one, and while it is nowhere near that hot, it still gets too hot after 3-4 puffs. Highly annoying. Especially since the taste for those few puffs is indeed good. I also tried, and never managed, to get my 510 vape that hot, despite the fact that the atty itself got hotter than the cartomizer.

-----
Edit: Hold the bit below, I think I found the problem. That is, a mayor part of it. (Cart 1 still gets a lot hotter than cart 2.) This says to line up the holes in the battery to the notches on the cartomizer. When I do that (was about a mm off or two before, I think) it takes considerably longer for the vapour to get hot. Will do some more testing tomorrow, too late today.

Now I am unsure: Is this still the "normaly hot" of a KR8? (And some people already mentioned that they regularly rotate PVs so the KR8 can cool off between more than a few vapes.) Or did I get a whole pack of bad cartomizers? Well, two out of five, but still. I'd appreciate more opinions on that one.

Maybe also somebody would be willing to exchange a cartomizer or two with me? (Unfilled, preferably.) I still have those three unused ones. Because I do want to give the KR8 a fair try, but I also have no intention of shelling out another 7$ (plus shipping) for another 5 cartomizers, which would probably come from the same batch, and therefore, if I did get a pack with at least two bad ones, have a fairly high probability of being not quite what they should be, either. Everywhere else, I'd pay even more. And frankly, so far I have no reason to expect anything worth shelling out more money. But I am a thorough kind of guy.
So, anybody willing to trade some cartomizers? As I said, one of the pack is definitely not OK, the 2nd one might be, or not, and the other three are still in the foil pack, so I have no clue as to their quality. (Obviously, only those three would be sent out.) Europe would obviously be preferable, otherwise shipping charges and/or shipping time would be rather high.

Is it hard to draw from the cartomizer?

One thing a lot of new users overlook is where the tape is on the cartomizer. If you don't see the metal ridges on the bottom of it then the tape is covering the air holes causing the cartomizers to overheat. A few of my first cartomizers were like that and I thought they were duds before I realized it.

OMG! This helps a TON!

I've noticed before that some of my carts will have the tape covering them, but never thought it could be a problem. Once I saw this post, I took a pair of scissors and scaped the tape/cart covering out of the ridges and it made a huge difference! The tape/cart ended up looking a little like crap at the end because some of the tape peeled away after doing it, but I don't care how it looks just how it vapes!

I thought I was going insane some days because it would seem that I would have to practically give myself a stroke to get a good draw on certain carts. Now I know why. Going to go home and check all my other carts for the same problem.

Thanks for the easy solution!

I've seen a few threads about carto's from someplace named "heaven....somethingorother" being bad lately. You may want to try a totally different batch of cartomizers.

I haven't tried any other PV's besides my KR808, but I haven't noticed any issues with heat. The vapor is usually pleasantly warm, but nowhere close to as hot as it would be from an analog.

I've used a few cartos from 2 different suppliers, and I haven't had any issues. I haven't had to pay any attention to the tape, covering holes, thread position, etc. So, I think something may be wrong with your equipment

The tape-at-the-bottom thing helped a little bit, but not much.

My first cartos were indeed from Heaven Gifts, my second was not, and they were filled, not empty, either. Same problem. I haven't seen any of those threads (which doesn't mean anything, of course), could you give me a link?
Besides, I have no idea where I could get some which don't come, in the end, from Heaven Gifts. Ordering in the US somewhere and paying an insane amount for shipping to get something that still will be inherently dangerous is not, you know, something I dream about at night. I was glad I found one in Europe at all, KR8s are not exactly bestsellers here.

And no, I didn't trim a 901 tip, either. No reason to ruin a perfectly good cart, especially since even untrimmed, I found them not to be an option; and I am quite sure that was not because of their lenght.

i'm thinking that the vapor heat you're experiencing is normal. because i recently decided to try the 510 & 901 (even tho happy with cartos) for basically the same reason, just to give 'em a fair try. and my reaction "something's got to be wrong! the vapor's all cold, it's like sucking on a wet wash cloth!"

even tho the 510 atty does get hot enough on the outside to nearly brand me, lol.

i love the heat of the KR8 vape; it doesn't get scalding though, or burn me (and i take very long drags). i think it might just be the vast difference between the two temps that is bothersome for you. i'm sure the 510/901 vapor isn't actually *cold* in my case, just seems uncomfortably so cause i'm acclimated to cartomizers.
