Got our Volts tonight!

Our Volts arrived in the mail today (and the samples from Vixen Vapors), and so we've tried our hand at vaping. I've done a ton of research, and spent a lot of time on ECF, but hubby hasn't and is pretty much along for the ride because he realizes we need to get off the analogs.

So far, it's okay... I'm vaping mint, and like I just said... okay. Hubby has tried 3-4 flavors so far, and is feeling pretty "meh" about the whole thing. He's said the flavors are okay, but he's not wowed by the whole experience. Do you think we should try the blank cartos and some of the stronger nic levels? (The prefilled cartos I got from Smokeless Image are 12, the ones from Vixen are 18) Or is it maybe just a flavor thing? I feel a pretty good kick at the back of my throat when I inhale (almost like I could cough)...

I'd love some advice! I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed/lost/need support!

Definitely try more flavors!!! If you were a heavy smoker, 12 is definitely too low for now and 18 might be just right. I had to use 24 for the first few weeks and am just now starting to use 18 again for during the day. (I always use 12 or lower closer to bedtime b/c I like to sleep) Keep trying!! Congrats on a new lease on life!

Ditto on the nicotine level. Im 31 and smoked roughly 15 to 20 marlboro special blend lights a day. I needed 24 mg for the first few weeks than dropped to 18. Although I admit if i spoke 24 i just smoke less For SI juice I like RY4 and watermelon, and sometimes desert joe. Draw on the volt slower than you would a cigarette. For more nicotine exhale out of your noise. The nicotine absorbs thru your mouth/throat more than your lungs.

I found some advice here before on the forums that helped me switch off analogs... and I loved to smoke. Truly. I'm done now tho after 25 years. I've found that now .... after adjusting to vaping... I like it more.

If your hubby smoked regular tobacco... have him try a menthol flavor. I despised menthol cigarettes.... but for some really odd strange reason... using a menthol flavor eliquid did the trick for me to make a real change. After about 4 days off analogs and using menthol liquid I tried other flavors and found, so far, a couple I like.

I saw this tip on another post, and others said it worked for them too. I tried it and it helped me greatly.

Fyi, I had about four drags on a regular tobacco cig about a week ago and HATED IT. I don't get it. I loved smoking. Now... it seems so stupid that I wasted thousands of dollars a year on those things and they were killing me.

Good luck and please don't give up!

Hubby just tried the RY4 and is really liking it now. He says he wishes that there were more "smoke" though. I suppose we'll have to experiment on what the ratios are. Funny thing, vaping is actually triggering me to want an analog - maybe it's because it's the same movement?

I think I'll try an 18 tobacco flavor in a blank carto to see if that helps (if that doesn't work, then I'll end up having a before bed analog). :(

Your body needs to adjust nicotine levels. Try to avoid those analogs. I vaped and smoked for a few days before I stopped cigs entirely.

I finally realized I needed a higher nico lvl. As others have said here but that menthol made me feel like I was smoking at least something stronger.

For better "smoke" you will need more VG in your juice. I've been using 100% vg. Its working for me. I'm not so concerned with throat hit.

Congratulations to you both! I think the most important thing is to remember that every cigarette you *don't smoke* is a WIN, and not the other way around. If you feel the need for an analog is greater than your desire to avoid one, go ahead and have one & don't beat yourself up over it. Couple of suggestions: for more vapor, use a bit higher VG in the liquid. IOW, if you're currently using 80PG/20VG try maybe going to 70/30 or 60/40. Remember that the VG is thicker so it might be slower to wick down to the coil; you might want to thin it with a drop or two of distilled water, but I'm not sure about this. As to throat hit/almost coughing, try drawing in a mouthful slowly, holding it a moment, then inhaling it slowly allowing a bit of air to mix on the inhale. Pay attention to how it feels and if it's irritating go ahead & exhale, gently if possible.

I would definitely up the nic level to begin with. It can be easily reduced if the need arises, and if it's not high enough there's no way it can satisfy that craving for nicotine. Keep reading & learning all you can, keep experimenting, and ask all the questions you need to... someone on here will have your answers, and we all want you to succeed. Happy Vaping to you both! :vapor:

This morning has been a bit tough. I'm used to going out for a smoke and coffee within 15 minutes of getting up... and not going out had my skin crawling (vaping wasn't helping). I ended up going out and smoking an analog - only to find out after about 4 drags that I didn't actually want it. Funny, huh?

I guess I'll just use use my PV like a pacifier and puff a bit every little bit. I'm at 18mg and want to avoid going up in nic level as I've had bad reactions to anti-smoking, alternative nicotine delivery systems (lol), and DO NOT want to go through that particular level of discomfort again.

On another note: hubby claims that he doesn't feel the need to smoke an analog, right before he started snapping at me and the kids. Grr.

I had to start at 36mg and stayed there for a long time before moving down to 24mg, then a few months ago I finally bumped it down to 19mg. I just received my first bottle of 12mg and I can actually taste it, which is a far cry from my reaction in the early days when it tasted like bad breath to me.

Do not stress about the nicotine level. Even at 36mg you're better off than you would be if you smoked. I second the recommendation to increase the VG level to at least 30%. (PG/VG @ 70/30 or 60/40) Also, some juices just taste better than others. Your taste buds will change and you will find that special juice that really hits the spot but it may take some time and experimentation to get to that point.

I found a few flavors that I really like (hazelnut is YUMMY!), and I've had only a few drags off an analog today before I realized I didn't actually want it. What I wanted was to stand outside for 5 minutes! The only thing that's really bugging me at the moment is that my lungs feel like I smoked 2+ packs of smokes while in a smoky bar. I wonder if it is because my lungs are used to smoke and they're getting something different, or if it is that my lungs are starting to work at getting rid of 16+ years of analogs?

With the Volts you probably want to get as close to the battery cutoff as you can to really get a good amount of vapor. I sit at my desk with it in my hand almost nonstop, and I was a 1-2 pad smoker. Your lungs will take some time to recover, and initially you'll probably feel pretty awful. This is just one of those things that comes with quitting smoking. Any of your habits you previously had with smoking, such as going outside after a meal, just replace it with the vaporizer. For the first week or so, I would periodically walk onto my porch and vape for a few minutes just to rewire my brain for a new habit.

Good luck on the switch, I hope you find the right nic/flavor combination to really make the Volts shine for you!
