Hi all. As per the recommendation of the good people of this board, I got the Nemeis clone off of fasttech. But I have yet to buy a tank for it, or an atty. So I have a few questions.

1. What is the best way to "cloud chase" with a standard mech tank? Micro coils at 1.3 ohm? I want to blow big huge vape clouds, as big as I can. Like so many others here. Just for fun.

2. What's the best way to make sure my coil is low ohm? I have decided that I want to vape at 1.2-1.5 ohm.

3. Do any mech tanks come pre built? Or are they all pretty much DIY? when it comes to the coil and the wicks being in place. Just curious about that one I guess. I don't really mind building it myself.

4. What is the smoothest blend of VG/PG for cloud chasing? I know you wanna go 0mg nicotine, but what about the ratio? Wanna make it easy on myself.

5. What is the best battery for cloud chasing? I have found 10, 20, and even 30 amp batteries. That are safe at that amp draw. Which one do I need to be safe?

6. Have I left anything out? What all else is needed to ensure I can blow big clouds with my mech mod?

Cloud chasing,

I have seen people do this with A micro coil on a protank 2 @ 1.5 ohms on a vv/vw mod. Have also seen it done on rba's (genesis style), rda's (igo-l, igo-w, nimbus, patriot, ect) @ 0.5 ohms.

First off if you are going to sub ohm you really need to research everything! Especially battery safety. If you still don't know what battery is best for what you are looking to do then you have not done enough research IMO.

with further research into the subject you will find more information as to what is used. I find research is the best way for people to learn. With the research instead of knowing what to use you will know why you are using it. Baditude has some great threads on battery safety.

As far as ejuice, I find that the higher the vg the less throat hit. But that is me

Most 'cloud chasers' go with rebuildable dripping atomizers, not tanks. The current 'best' one for clouds (from reviews) is the Atomic RDA. The best tanks for that sort of thing are the Genesis-style atomizers. I have not seen any pre-built coils for those. Your vapor output will be dependent on what you build, the juice (100% VG for clouds) and the wattage that you use on it. Without any research, go with the highest amperage rating on the battery that you can find. Don't build anything sub-ohm till you do a LOT more research and actually really know how to do it safely. Check RIP-tripper's Youtube channel, he does a really good job with it. Good luck, be safe and have fun!

Great advice ^^^ already. Read Baditude's blogs here. Look for the posts on batteries and RBA's. You need to learn how to chose the right battery for what you want to do with it, how to use a digital multimeter and when to use it, the importance of air hole size and air flow in your RBA/RDA and how power affects the setup. You don't need to use the maximum power you can to get a lot of cloud happening if you know what you're doing.

Basically the most important thing you need to do this safely is knowledge. I can tell you how I do it, but what I do will likely not be right for you. You really need to understand how this stuff works in order to figure out what you want.

Take your time, read a bunch and then ask more questions :thumb:

1. What is the best way to "cloud chase" with a standard mech tank? Micro coils at 1.3 ohm? I want to blow big huge vape clouds, as big as I can. Like so many others here. Just for fun.

Depends. Not being evasive, but there's ways of cloud chasing with almost anything if you're willing to put in the time and effort. So far I've had the best success with a two different setups. One is a dual microcoil with cotton wick at 1.4 ohms on a dripper, the other which I really get a kick out of is a single ribbon coil with cotton wick at 0.5 ohms.

2. What's the best way to make sure my coil is low ohm? I have decided that I want to vape at 1.2-1.5 ohm.

Use an Ohm's Law calculator and either a multimeter or one of those resistance checkers to test your results.

I have an app on my phone called Vaper's Toolbox that I've found pretty handy.

3. Do any mech tanks come pre built? Or are they all pretty much DIY? when it comes to the coil and the wicks being in place. Just curious about that one I guess. I don't really mind building it myself.

AFAIK the only ones I've seen come prebuilt are the Chinese rebuildables. I made the mistake of dripping on my Scar when it showed up in the mailbox. It tasted mostly like death and machine oil. I wouldn't recommend vaping on anything that shows up prebuilt, a good scrubbing would be in order for anything you intend to vape on.

If you're careful, you should be able to pull the coils and re-use them after you wash out your rebuildable, but I would torch the wire and put in my own wick.

[4. What is the smoothest blend of VG/PG for cloud chasing? I know you wanna go 0mg nicotine, but what about the ratio? Wanna make it easy on myself.

Simply put, VG=clouds.

5. What is the best battery for cloud chasing? I have found 10, 20, and even 30 amp batteries. That are safe at that amp draw. Which one do I need to be safe?

Personally I like a nice margin of safety, plus the high drain batteries, if kept at a discharge rate less than their max, will maintain a higher voltage under load.

Even though the voltage of a battery will drop to around 3.7 volts under load, I still use 4.2 volts for my calculations.

Right now I stay at or above 0.5 ohms until my 30A Sonys get here. Between 0.5 - 1 ohm, I use my Panasonic 10A batteries, above an ohm I'm comfortable using my "regular" AW IMR's, even though they are rated at 10A, I still feel better not driving them too hard.

6. Have I left anything out? What all else is needed to ensure I can blow big clouds with my mech mod?[/QUOTE]

Research. Although I have a background in electronics and electricity, I am new to vaping, and even newer to rebuildables. I spend a lot of time reading up on (and watching videos) about vaping.

Thanks for all the helpful replies everyone. I guess I should have mentioned that I'm well versed in safety already. What I was really asking, is what is the best high amp draw battery. Say a battery that is rated for 20 amps continuous, yet is also 2800 mah. If there even is such a thing.

But as for the rest, it boils down to this.

1. High air flow.

2. Proper battery.

3. Low resistance coil.

4. Straight VG juice.

5. Lots of wick.

Does that sound about right? If so I can do this no problem.

Personally, I prefer the new Sony VTC4 batteries. I have them in my Nemesis Clone and they work perfectly, so much that I have two more that are coming in tomorrow. They're 2000 mah 30 amp batteries and they're great. I moved to them from the Panasonic 10 amp batteries and haven't looked back since. Some will recommend Orbtronic or MNKE, but from the tests performed, the Sony VTC4's hold up and perform better overall.

I picked mine up from eCiggity for $8.99/each and used 10PERCENTOFF as the coupon code to save a little.

Sony 18650VTC4 2000MAH 30AMP Battery - Eciggity

As for cloud chasing, most drip. You can get the same effect from a genny tank or similar if you bore out the air hole, but the stock 1-1.5mm air holes aren't going to cut it. Cloud Chasing also requires (for the most part) direct lung inhalation instead of mouth to lung unless you can hold a ton in your mouth before you inhale.

As for resistance, when I tried my hand at it (note: it's just too much for me), I ran .5-.8 ohm single coils, but you'll find that most are running dual and quad coils to really get those massive lingering clouds that makes you look like a steam machine.

Thank you sir. Do you know why they call them genesis style tanks?

raidy developed the Genisis atomizer.

From one of the posts in his first thread on ECF:

Also, are there any higher mah batteries that are also high amp draw? I noticed its difficult to locate 20 amp batteries that are 3800 mah.

I also just put in an order for a couple of the new Sony 18650 30A 2100 mAh batts. I figured for a 20 or higher amp battery this one is the best we have right now.

The contenders are:

MNKE
IMR18650 1500mah 20A (13.3C) (Stopped manufacturing these a little while ago)

AW IMR
18650 1600mah 24A (15C)

Samsung
INR18650-20R 2000mah 20A (10C)

Sony
SE US18650VTC3 1600mAh 30A (18.75C)
SE US18650VTC4 2100mAh 30A (14.28C)

LG LGDAHE21865 2500mAh 30A

The last has the best numbers, but performance has not yet been verified yet.

From what I've noticed, it seems like the name brand ones are usually the best. Like Sony, Panasonic, LG, Samsung, etc. You don't see a whole lot of people talking about the off-brand ones.

I'm not sure if you are considering the AW IMR and MNKE as off brands. If this is the case, in the vape community those are widely used for most mods regulated and non regulated. If I'm not mistaken there are some PV manufactures that recomend you only use AW IMR batteries in the mod. I know there is one for sure.

Do you think you could post a link to the AW's and the MNKE's that you are referring to? I'm having trouble sorting out the exact ones that people are actually using. The market is flooded with all manner of 18650 batteries many sharing very close to the same name. Probably some are knock offs.

Two very reputable vendors that carry quality batteries:

RTD Vapor

Orbtronic

Yeah, you left out step one,

!) before venturing into the world of mech mods, a vaper should have a working knowledge of Ohms Law, Battery Amp limits, how to build measure and inspect coil builds. Have a fundamental understanding of what is involved before going willey nilley and buying things. Know proper battery safety and proper storage and charging practices.

It's obvious that you want to get to step five without having to do the first four steps. This can lead to bad chit. At the minimum, if you are going to pursue the mech world, get an Evolv kick 2, so that you can regulate your mech and have all the safeties of a regulated mod.

I see a post like this, and I scares the living daylights out of me. It makes me wonder if the next post will be from a friend crying that their buddy was just trying to chase clouds, and ended up in the hospital in the critical burn ward, and that the apartment was totally destroyed.

Vape Safe!!

Vape long and Prosper!!

I use the efest 1600mah 18650s (30amp). They last me long enough. 100% VG Bobas Bounty - and if not the evening, will use 18mg nic. In the evening, I vape whatever low nic I have on hand.

Nemesis, with a Patriot, dual micro style (mine are not micro, they are 2mm ID so I can slide silica or SS mesh into them) 1.5-2Ω coils for a .75 -1Ω total resistance. Cotton, silica, or sometimes SS mesh for wicks. That is my dripping setup & works good for me. I have gone below .5Ω, but it was not all that IMO, and if I wanted to switch the nemmy to 18350/490 to take with me somewhere, I couldn't do it safely, so don't build that low anymore. I have vaped genisis atomizers since they were started by raidy, and though I love them for flavor and vapor production and they are my main RBA, I enjoy dripping on the Patriot or a mesh dripper atty setup when home in front of the TV.

I am not in a cloud competition (as you can tell with my coil resistances), but certainly enjoy the vapor production and flavor I get with my setups. I actually find the whole cloud chasing thing kind of stupid, and potentially dangerous for those that do not understand the stresses on their batteries.

I've been testing the Sony 30 AMP 18650's I mentioned in my previous post and so far, I can tell a major difference in them vs my IMR's and Panasonics. Even at 2000 mah, they are lasting me pretty much all day on .6-.8 ohm builds (single coil) using 28g Kanthal. I'd highly suggest checking them out as the ones in the link are the real thing, not relabeled knock offs and they work very well (I mention this as some have seen the VTC4's being relabeled and having issues with battery life and amperage).

I'm not a cloud chaser by far, but I do enjoy my vapor. I don't fill the room by any means, but these batteries could technically the lower ohm coils if you really want to drop down below .5 ohms without being a cause for concern. I've not noticed any unnecessary heating or cause for concern from their use and I do tend to chain vape when I have a flavor I really enjoy in the tank (Kayfun 3.1 right now).
