BTW, I just ordered a carbon fiber wrap from J Wraps for my well used Grand, might be easier than trying to alter the finish yourself.

I haven't used these before, but I'll post a review after I get/use it.

If indeed that is what you get. I ordered one for my battered grand and after trying to figure out for 45 mins how the hell it would go on there, i emailled them a pic.
They had sent me the one for a Vamo (odd, since i don't own one) and said they'd send me a replacement Tuesday.

I duly opened the replacement today after it arrived and lo and behold - another very natty Vamo cover :/

There is a law of diminishing returns here and i am not well-known for my infinite patience. Good luck!

Its not a color thing some people have something in the oil in the skin that reacts to anodize . I have to say its extreamly rare

I was going to make this exact anology. A buddy of mine has to change strings on his guitar after every gig. I can go months on the same set (I do actually change them about every 3-4 gigs). So it's a chemistery thing I suppose.

This right here is exactly why I always pee on my REOs first thing . . .. fresh out of the box, throw in dirt, and pee on! :|

I used to have this same problem with glasses. I could destroy a pair of temples on my glasses in 2 months. After much consternation, contemplation and condemnation, we figured out that it was the nickle in the frames reacting to the oils in my skin. From that point forward, I never bought another pair of glasses with frames that contained any part nickle. Never had the problem again. So, it might not be as rare as you think......

The part of Canada that doesn't get enuf Snow :(
My body eats electronic door keys. Neutralizes them. I don't have a powder coat as yet but I'm pretty sure with what I know of powdercoatingit won't stand up to my abuse. No worries as I buy for function rather than looks. Someone mentioned glasses I go thru several pairs of safety glasses a month as the oils from my nose eat the nose pads on them. Sucks but hey I get new I scratched glasses regular

I think they should cut them so they'll come around the curve on the front to hide that front edge. Thats where many of the battle scars are and it would just look better covering that edge. They would have to make two versions though. One for the original Grand with the squarish corners and for the newer Grand that more rounded off corners.

It does look nice. I was considering ordering one for my anodized silver grand I have. But debating because I use Karen's cozies and I like the feel of the cozies. How does it fit and feel in the hand? And I am assuming the silver would show thru on the corners then with the j-wrap? Was looking at the blue carbon fiber one which would look nice with the silver still showing thru. Then I could get some sweet drip tips to match to put on my RM2.

It's a bit grippier than the plain powder coat. It's just a standard cover that they sell - not custom or anything. It hides a few scratches on the Reo but dings on the corners are harder to conceal.

My raw grand has one of Karen's covers on it, but this is my all-day Reo that has been used and abused for about a year now, which combined with concrete floors at work has made for a hard life!

I'll be interested to see what kind of lifespan the cover has.

Well today i finally got the wrap for the Grand!

View attachment 265136

This was sent priority mail after j-wraps twice sent me one for a Vamo (!!). In fairness they did offer a refund or an extra cover (as well as this one), but i only have one battered Grand - the other is all well-looked after and polished.

As promised, I've received and applied the JWRAPS carbon fiber stick-on for my well used grand:

The finish and apparent adhesion is excellent, but as you can see from the photo, the wrap, by design, does not extend to cover the full surface of the grand (note the bare edge along each side of the door). Near the top you can see the original black finish, it's worn off along most of both door edges. Unfortunately, that's one of the areas I was hoping to cover, but I will leave it on, if only to see how well it holds up to continuous use.
