The really sad thing is that this is the best argument against e-cigs they could come up with:

Council President Christine Quinn said banning e-cigarettes would make it easier to enforce the city's ban on real smoking. Because they're designed to look like real cigarettes, it can be tough for law enforcement officers, business owners and club bouncers to tell who's really smoking and who's only "vaping."

Oh, and this just sickens me:

They're still highly addictive, however, and Quinn said OK'ing them could create new customers for tobacco products and undercut the message that smoking is something you should do only at home.

New York City Council votes to ban e-cigarettes - U.S. News

I read this the first thing this morning, it was on my home page. Un-freaakin'-believable. I think the Rolling Stones said it best waaaay back in the 1960's: "Hey, you, Get off My Cloud!! Don't Hang Around All Through My Cloud!!!"

1 - Granted that any regulation is a step in the wrong direction.
2 - Putting the knee jerk reactions aside, it's not an "all out" ban on ecigs.
3 - What it does is bans use of them in places where cigarette use is banned.
4 - Yes, it does give the government that little inroad towards more control.
5 - My personal thought is that a select few have brought this on by questionable behavior/bad judgement/lack of respect. Best example that I can give is last weekend while eating at a rather nice place, I was subjected to seeing a table of 4 younger males (can't bring myself to call them gentlemen) with the shiny mega toys trying to make themselves disappear in a cloud. Reminded me of walking into a bar on a Saturday night before the great smoke ban. Like so many of what I consider intrusive regulations/laws, we have brought them on ourselves..

Bloomberg. Bloomberg. Bloomberg .................. leaving office knowing more "laws" to "protect the people" are in place. Next? Perhaps actually PROSECUTE CRIMINALS instead of the law abiding he feels are too ignorant to handle their own affairs. It's nice to be a billionaire and usually get your own way.

Citing a DUTCH official (health minister Martin Van Rijn) - Bloomberg muttered, "...e-cigarettes are as addictive as tobacco cigarettes because they contain nicotine, and he said there was no proof of claims by manufacturers that they help smokers quit." <------------- RIGHT BLOOMBERG! NO PROOF! The folks who stand in support of E-Cigarettes don't count? I suppose those who are free of real cigarettes are too ignorant to realize they are still smoking, right? They just "think" they have not smoked the real deal in days, weeks, months or years? They are living in a fantasy world? HOGWASH --- but it comes from a MAYOR or other public official so it is "true". Such bullcrap! Makes me IRATE! They make idiotic statements about that which they are ignorant! It's 'OK' for politicians to be uninformed? They are special and need not make statements based on fact? Fiction is acceptable and outright lying is now the norm.

We need to pass laws against control-freaking, and add controlling behavior to the DSM-V as a mental disorder. Then we need to put control-freaks like Bloomberg in mental wards and keep them heavily sedated, for life.

Here's another story on the Stupid War on E-cigs:

On Morning Jo today, condemnation of public vaping ban by lame duck mayor. Already I'm hearing talk of civil disobedience, impossibility of enforcement, etc. etc. NYC vapers are ANGRY! Stand by for more fallout; bet Bloomberg is thanking his lucky stars he won't be around to feel the effects, and I pity (not) the politicians who WILL be around...

The real problem is the attitude of the general public. Most supported the Iraq War and those body scanners in airport. They cannot see the through the facade of government propaganda because they don't know how to think critically. The public doesn't get involved in issues that don't affect them since we live in a "me" society. Then there are the hypocrites who take the high moral ground. We don't live in a world where principals are important.

The groups behind this are smarter than we give them credit for. Many study psychology and study tactics how to manipulate the public. The governments wants to stigmatize ecigs, so the general public will view it the same as cigs. The motive is obviously money. They have no interest in an all-out ban; they see it as a money source. The scare tactic is being used to scare us, so when they ban it in public places we will yield easier. That is how I see it.

I am wondering why there is no organization of vapors who would be able to voice our concerns to the public and the lawmakers instead of just complaining to each other here. Here we are just preaching to the choir.

That said, I do believe in that some vapors are shooting themselves by behaving obnoxiously - like a previous poster said - by blowing clouds of vapor in a nice restaurant or theater. This can only turn people against all vapors.

There is:

CASAA - The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association

Join, it's free and donate if you can. They are the ones who post the call to actions on here and e-mail them to all the members.
