My obligatory 'hello' post.

Joined a few months ago and been mostly lurking. I've been putting off the 5 post thing for a while, but figured I'd get it out of the way so I could contribute here and there.

I quit about 7 months ago after 15ish years of smoking. I did the dual vaping/stinkies for a day or two and then switched to full vaping. Never really looked back since.

I had a cigarette a couple of months ago out of sheer curiosity and couldn't even make it past 2 drags. I know now I'll never smoke again. It's crazy to think how I ever started smoking when they taste that bad. Like eating an ashtray.

So to try to make this more of a topic (and to get 4 more posts in :D), does anyone have a similar experience? Any of you curious about how it might be, but you're worried about the possible temptation?

From my perspective, I deliberately waited to try a cigarette until I was sure the 'old dog' feeling was long gone and it was just simple curiosity. I was doing so well with vaping that I didn't really want to risk a relapse early on. In the end, I'm really happy I did. Until that point, there was always the feeling that I might go back to cigarettes if for some reason vaping was no longer an option, but that's gone. There's just no way any more. At this point, I know I'd choose 'nothing' over cigarettes and that's a great feeling.

P.S.
This community is awesome. I did a ton of research before I tried vaping and a whole bunch of it was from this forum. Cheers to all of you.

Welcome, Chewster. I bummed an American Spirit from a buddy because I wanted to try it out. This was after a couple of months of vaping with no smoking at all. I actually quit the cigs as soon as I started vaping six months ago. Anyway, I have to say that it tasted pretty good actually, but I still enjoy tobacco flavors and recently discovered the naturally extracted tobacco liquids that I'm enjoying now also. I wasn't worried about going back to smoking though because of the lingering smells and I'm feeing much better health wise with vaping.

I do enjoy fruity flavors and sweet creamy liquids as a change of pace but I think I'll always enjoy a good tobacco flavor also. You have to find a good one though, there is alot of crap out there.

I smoked one 6 weeks into zero cigs to demonstrate to my brother, who was still smoking, that I'd lost interest. It tasted bad. I got him started vaping that day. A month later I found cigs in the house and tried one. It was awful. Threw the rest away. It's good to get accustomed to vaping flavors. Makes cigs taste bad.

Vaping makes cigarettes literally obsolete. A superior user experience, avoids the health issues, costs a tiny fraction of cigs. The tobacco companies know, government doesn't.

Hi Chewster, Welcome to ECF! Glad you decided to step out of the shadows and join in!

Congratulations on making the switch! It's amazing how easy vaping makes it to give up the smokes, isn't it?!?

Yup... I was a 32 year smoker, I quit after 3 days of finding that "Perfect" combo of device and juice.
I did "bum" a couple drags off of my wife's cigarette when I was a few months in and I was amazed at just how bad it tasted... From that moment on, I haven't had any tobacco since. I've been smoke free since Feb 18 2013 and I'm not looking back.
btw... my wife just celebrated her 1 year vapeversary!

Sounds like your story is gonna be very similar! :thumb:

Glad you found out for yourself that smoking isn't your thing anymore! Now that any doubt has been removed you can concentrate on moving forward without that lingering thought in the back of your head!

Interesting. To be honest, based on my own experiences, that surprises me. To each their own I guess. As long as you can find some reason to avoid them though.

I'm actually interested in having a cigar which I've always enjoyed. Hopefully, those don't taste terrible too. I haven't really been avoiding cigars or anything, it just hasn't really come up. I only smoked them in a celebratory kind of way.

Ya, I don't have any desire to go back to smoking but like I said, I still like the taste of a good tobacco. There are some real good pipe tobacco flavors out there on the internet. Look at the E-liquid section here and there are threads for flavored tobacco and the NET I was talking about. Now that you have 5 posts you can post over there now too.

Welcome, chewster. I actually did suffer a relapse, though it wasn't strictly my "fault;" I got surprised with appendicitis/appendectomy when I had been smoke-free for 3 1/2 months; which was great for the surgery, my lungs were completely clear, I got to go home the same day, but I endured 4 days of violent illness afterward, and couldn't vape, I was so sick; when I finally managed to get over it enough to stagger into the kitchen and try to eat, drink, and vape, the vape tasted HORRIBLE right along with everything else -- and then the pangs of withdrawal hit me like a sledgehammer. I couldn't deal with it, so I smoked, and it took me about a month to lay them down again, though I never did entirely stop vaping. I looked at it as a brief aberration, a setback, but not a full abandonment of the whole dang idea.

At about my 3 month period I was having some problems with nic levels and flavors. I went out to the patio and smoked a couple. I felt like a kid hiding in the woods who stole some cigarettes from his dad (ask me how I know). Anyway, they were really good. I could really taste them like I hadn't for nearly 40 years. I knew then and there that I could never do that again. Just too much temptation. That was over 2 years ago and those were my last cigarettes.
