About seven months ago, the dragon coil thread was created, and I gave it a shot. After messing with the cotton setup a bit, I came out with something like this

This is the setup that I've been using since then and I love it.

Tonight for some reason I decided to build an original dripping setup with the cotton running through the coils

It's NOWHERE near as satisfying.

Is anyone else stuck on this setup?

Discuss!

The vapor and flavor is absolutely off the charts!
I'm using 28g kanthal 5/4 wrap on the end of a very small piece of metal, it seems that the smaller diameter I go, the better. I did a few dual coil setups with 2 14/13 wraps of 28g around the end piece of a guitar wire and it was incredible!

Final resistance is right about .3 ohms.
5/4 wrap of 28g kanthal wrapped around a piece of metal roughly the diameter of a small paperclip. Build four, then instead of running cotton through the coil, I make two small cotton beds UNDER the coils. Saturate well, then push the coils in so that they're about half way in the cotton.
Drip, enjoy, repeat.
This is roughly a 1.5 second pull.
I like a big, hot vape.
I believe I'm pulling about 15 amps. Well within the range of my vtc 4's

Thanks for the tips Desmond! I ended up getting one built today, 6/7 wraps of 30 awg kanthal, 4 coils. Came out to .34 ohm IIRC. It was, er, too much for me. I put it in my Quasar and used my Magneto with a fresh VTC4 and it felt like my throat was on fire, lol. So, I've been wondering what my ceiling would be in terms of power and it appears I've found it :)

Yeah its usually way too much for most people that I let try it. And honestly, I think my throat might be made of leather from all the smoking, because I only drip 24mg nic lol. Except at night, when I drip pure vg, no nic, no flavor.
I'd suggest bringing the resistance up to where you usually are. Maybe .6-7ish? It still gives the best flavor of any set up I've used

You good sir, are a mad man.
I thought I was a tough guy for occasionally running 70pg 12mg on a 1ohm dripper (which I honestly dont think I could do anymore)

even 12mg pure VG on a KF is a bit much for me now!

That's the weird thing, I am generally in the lower to upper .4 range and that's fine for my throat. Others, even other vapers, cough up a lung if they try my drippers. This setup went through liquid like a boss though. I tried pushing the coils down into the cotton further but to no avail, I was also afraid of breaking a coil leg since I only had the 30 awg wraps. I may try it again, it was definitely not a waste of time and is, to this point, the most "complex" rig I've attempted. I really do appreciate the tips :)

Do you have pretty large airflow holes?

I thought the Dragon Coil actually wrapped the entire coil only leaving the coil holes and interior of the coils exposed for the air to pass through. Maybe I am wrong or it's just semantics. The quad nanos on piano wire or paper clip wraps sounds very cool. I am going to try this on an IGO-M.

That was the original setup, but I wasn't getting the kind of production I was looking for, this ended up doing the trick for me

I'm I reading this wrong? How does a quad 4/5 wrap of a 28g end up at .3ohm? Remember, with quad coils you would divide the resistance of a single coil by 4.

Using Steam Calc (Steam Engine | free vaping calculators), on a 3/64 bit [roughly a large paper-clip] you would need 10/11 wraps to hit your target of 1.2ohms per coil.

According to my calculations, what you have built is 4x .6ohm coils, which would give a total resistance of .15ohms. That's a HUGE difference from .3 ohms.. Instead of the ~13 amps ~50 watts that you've suggested you are vaping at, you would actually be vaping at ~26 amps ~100 watts.

Vape safe, dude. That would put you right at the edge on a VTC4.
