I'm still on ss, simply because its so friggin low maintenance. This wick+coil im vapring right now i built 7 months ago and it last developed a hotspot like 2 months ago or so which took around 2 minutes to fix... Also "mirco" coils arent exclusive to cotton, this one has 12 wraps of 0.1x0.3mm kanthal around it and i was doing that way before it was mainstream! /hipdouche :p

I do admit you can get superior performance out of a cotton build that is the same volume but just like silica they get clogged every other week and you have to build a new one while all it takes to unclog a SS wick is a single dryburn and bam good as new.

agreed. the longest running genny i had was 14 months. it was still pumping out vapor, but i had noticed that the flavor had become muted. some people may have continued to vape it but i felt like tearing it down.

i have another genny that's build just reached the 1-year mark. flavor is still strong. TH and vapor havent changed since day one either. i do dry burn every tanks worth and i wash the tank inside and out as needed as well, so that is prolonging my build.

I have have at least one Genny built with pure SS mesh and it works great but I like SS cable that I have in several others a little better. Also currently built are cotton, ceramic stick and XC (my newest). I no longer use any of the silica and Ecowool lengths I readied some time back. At the end of the day comparing all wicks I've tried or tried to like ... SS cable is still my top genny wick pick. Cotton in RDA's.

ss cable is straight. i like it but i dont prefer it to mesh. i find that the flavor doesnt quite pop as well as it does on mesh. depending on the juice, mesh and cable can either greatly differ or only differ slightly (in regards to flavor).

I guess I should clarify just a bit ... SS cable with mesh top ... :) I never wrap cable just straight because it doesn't hit right ... yes like you say ... but once the top is wrapped the flavor is the same as with all mesh wick but for me the cable center keeps up better

I think the majority of vapers use something like evod/protank style, we're just a small group that into rebuilding stuff IMO.

And nope to your question, I use only cotton ball now

Right on the money from where I stand. I can rebuild and when I do I use cotton. It's is just not worth the time to ME personally since the standard 2.2ohm T3S / ProTank2 and ProTank2 Mini coils do the job. I use cotton and it seems like I am continually swapping out coil setups. Perhaps it the quality of MY rebuild - but i waste more time messing with them and wind up putting in a pre-made and going about my business. I don't have leaks - gurgles with MY builds but I don't like them as much as folks said I would. Again - the quality may be the reason - but I don't need the frustration.

Oh the irony of this thread ... What I didn't like about using cotton in my Genesis was that I had to change my wick too often, and it was annoying me. And since I had heard that mesh wicks last longer, I felt motivated to try it.

I almost feel guilty, like I'm doing something wrong, been using the same ss mesh &wire for over a month. Rinse the tank/mesh, dry-burn & reload.

Agreed! .. I don't know if I just really lucked out with this build or what, but it has been a week now, and I have not had to fiddle with it at all since I built it. I refill twice a day and go on my merry way ... and I chain vape this thing like the answer to world peace is in it!

Hearing about the constant fiddling, and fixing from some users is exactly what kept me away from it until now.. But like Thrasher said, every device, and its builder is different, so its all relative. The AGI is working great for me, but then I have nothing else to compare it to .. yet. I am looking forward to experiencing the differences of other Gennie's .. now they just need to get here from China. :p

I've had a cotton + micro coil setup in one of my aga-T2s for more than a week and have not needed to fiddle or replace the cotton yet. I am still not in love with the airy vape of it but it is working fine.

Sorry guys I just flat prefer my REO+RM2 or a kayfun Lite + clone. Just a better vape to me.

After starting this thread, I decided to set up my RSST with mesh. It was a breeze to setup and taste and vapor production are outstanding. I guess it's the device you use with mesh that will decide the ease and maintenance of your setup. I always had problems keeping an AGA-t2 going with mesh, my RSST, AC9 and DID were no problem at all.

The AGA T2 was my first genesis style atomizer and as a new vaper I found it very frustrating to keep going on mesh. So ultimately, it sat and collected dust. Then along came my RSST. MUCH easier to set up with mesh, or in my case SS cable with a top mesh wrap. It's been working great for a couple of weeks now. So recently I dug out the AGA...only this time I made it more like the RSST and added a small Ss washer under the top nut to eliminate the notorious t2 hot top leg. Worked like a charm and I've been vaping it all week. Even with a top cap reducer in the RSST, the flavor is still better on the T2. Just my take, but for me, Ss wicks seem to deliver the cleanest flavor vs. Cotton or silica/ekowool, not to mention their low maintenance.

Oh yeah lots, and lots better not cheapier or easier.
Soon after I started vaping(over 1 year ago), I got into rebuilding with genesis atomizers and SS mesh wicks. After learning to setup with mesh and all the trial and error with different kanthal and wick rolling methods, I found the perfect vape. I was completely satisfied with this setup and saw no need try anything else. Then I ran out of mesh and ordered some. In the mean time I was reading about microcoils and cotton and decided to try this setup. Most everyone who reads this knows what happened next. The mesh I ordered never got used. I use cotton and microcoils on every device I own, and purchase new devices that will make this setup even easier to use. It seems that a large majority of vapers use cotton due to its price, performance and ease to setup. Who else has stopped using mesh and converted to cotton ? Will there ever be a better material cheaper and easier to work with than cotton ?

I figured that's what you meant. But honestly for me certain juices taste different with cable + mesh than they do with just a dense mesh wick.

Started on silica but didn't like it. When I got my ZAP I really liked the ceramics but you just look at them funny and they'd break on me. I swear I've spent $100 on friggin ceramic wicks. I tried mesh but I was still new at this and all I ever got was a nasty metallic taste. I have a serious aversion to metal tastes. I won't drink out of a can and I can't even stand a Klondike bar because I can taste the metal wrapper they put it in.
For now I'm loving me some micro coils and cotton. I switched all my genni's to micro/cotton and have been happy ever since. Changing cotton wicks is easy enough and micro coils are so solid that I rarely have to mess with them. I just got my Russian today and with micro/cotton I'm in vape heaven.

Well my AIOS clone came in today and it might just force me to try mesh again dangit. I am just not getting good wicking with a cotton build and dry hit cotton is horrid.

Have fun with that one - I almost gave up on using it as a top-feeder, but when you get it set up right, it really is nice. :)
