Heya,

I hope this is an appropriate place to post this question. Do any of you experience a harshness (stinging raspy feel) when inhaling the vapor?

I have tried PG and reduced PG and get the same thing. But as the day goes on... it becomes less harsh. Trying to see if this is normal. Any posts much appreciated.

Edit: I do keep my atomizer moist (I can tell when it gets dry by the taste).

Have you tried reducing the amount of nicotine you are using?

The first 2-3 hours in the day are harsher than the rest of the day for me. I have a PG allergy, but its pretty much been suppressed due to the fact I vape it all day, every day. I now wish I had that same hit I get in the morning all day long ...

If I had to guess -- The raspy feel is due to the amount of nic ... If you are using a HV device, you may want to drop back down to 3.7v ... Or if you are using 6v+, dropping down to 5v to see if that helps :)

Good luck!

Thanks Steve. I will try with zero nic and see if that helps. I do use 24mg juice from JC. I happen to have a sample of juice without nic. Also, I have a PT and a protege. Same result when using both. I don't think the PVs are the cause.

Nevergonna, this happens everyday.

I should also note that I am also a heavy vaper. For me, the start of the day can be rough.

Not knocking JC's liquids (I use a few of them all the time), but some of their flavors are harsh on my throat and I can't figure out why. It's the same with one flavor from DIY, but the rest of Dawn's are smooth as silk.

You might have a slight reaction to the one or two flavorings, or, as others have said, could be a PG reaction, the amount of nic, or how hard you're sucking on the vp (too much suction will result in some of the liquid misting and ending up in your mouth and throat--wow... that sounds bad when I re-read it )

Anyway, hope some of this helps.

For me it was finding the right flavor (PS 555) and keeping my throat moist. Sometimes in the morning I'll even suck on a lemon drop or a halls to keep the saliva going.

I also drink twice as much water as I did before I started vaping. Thought after 3 weeks I has developed an allergy to PG, but the extra water cured me in 2 days.

You must give us more details.
What batteries? 3 volt? 3.7? power pack?
What atomizer?
Where did you buy the atomizer?
What liquid?
Nic?
VG or PG ?
What flavor ?
Did you mix the flavor?
Would you say that the harshness is due to hot vapor temperature?
Is your throat really dry?
Is there a metallic taste associated with the harshness ?

I have the same experience at times. I find that using lower nic juice or using juice with more VG than PG helps most of the time. Also, having something to drink and rehydrating your mouth and throat seems to help since from what I've read, both VG and PG will dehydrate your mouth and throat tissues.

I must say that i think the JC juice is your problem, i have experimented with myself on the matter, and JC juice just seems to taste awful. My solution, get PS juice, problem solved IMO.

Sorry if this seems like i am bashing their juice, but i purposefully switched (is that even a word? "Purposefully, haha, you get my meaning) back and forth, just to give it another shot, and even had a buddy of mine do the same thing, just to make sure it wasn't me being biased, but no, we had the same opinion at the end of the day. We both use 5v prodigy's btw.

Hope that helps.

Well... I tried a 0 nic juice and I got the same result. To be fair... the 0 nic is the same JC juice as my 24mg from JC.

Part of the reason I get JC juice is I like the taste of the original flavor and they have never been out of stock for me. Very reliable supply. However, I think I will start a hunt for another supplier and look for sample packs and see if maybe it is the JC juice.

For quovaid:

What batteries? 3 volt? 3.7? power pack? Ptrotege
What atomizer? 901
Where did you buy the atomizer? PS
What liquid? Johnson Creek Original
Nic? 24mg but have a 0 nic sample. Both start out harsh.
VG or PG ? PG and reduced PG.
What flavor ? JC Original
Did you mix the flavor? I do not mix juice.
Would you say that the harshness is due to hot vapor temperature? Nope.
Is your throat really dry? Nope.
Is there a metallic taste associated with the harshness ? Nope.

I've had the same problem as the OP since I started vaping, harsh in the morning but tapering off as I continue. I just recently tried JC Juice, so that's not my problem.

I've used 4081, 901, 510, 801, 306, 401.... 3.7 v only, tried lots of different juices from different suppliers. Mixed all kinds of flavors of my own, some 0 nic.
I still end up with the harsh throat thing every morning. And I never vape anything above 8mg and usually it's 6mg.

In the beginning I was afraid it was a PG allergy but I never got any other symptoms and it always goes away after I vape awhile.
I haven't tried PS juice because he hasn't had the flavors I want in low nic when I'm ready to order.

The only thing I find that helps a little is using a cart instead of dripping in the morning. Dripping seems harsher to me. Oh and also cutting down on the menthol as I mentioned in an earlier post.

Could be your lungs are more receptive (sensitive) after a good night's sleep.
Normally harshness is associated with vaping at higher voltages, since the nicotine absorption at higher voltages is totally different.
You are on 3.7~ 4 volts which is low.
In fact you only have a 1.2 differential between your ohms value and voltage...this is a weak vape.

I would try changing for another brand of 901, and getting some totally different juices.
Start vaping low nic. Try some of nhalers juices, they are smooth.
I tried JC once and i remember it tasted like burnt rubber.

and it seems no one took my approach yet...

i attribute harshness and acridness of the taste to your method of inhaling.

as a smoker, i would inhale directly to the lungs. as a vaper...inhaling to the lungs FOR ME gives a very nasty burnt acrid taste.

to avoid that, i cheek/mouth inhale to the mouth, and then inhale to the lungs. creates a better flavor and easier to avoid that nasty burnt taste.

also, inhale SLOWLY. it's not a race...and don't suck it down like a cig. think of it as a nearly frozen milkshake, slow and steady suction, the force of your inhale should be in your cheeks, not your lungs.

another method would be to think of it like a cigar, take a couple mouth puffs, inhale...repeat.

lotus I am seriously LMAO!
This is just me and I have some serious allergy crap going on. But it took me forever to figure out I can't have ANY PG. I ended up at the doctor with asthma, she put me on an inhaler. I was using it more and more and I was just getting worse. Scared me. Started researching and realized the inhaler had PG in it. I knew I had PG issues and had told her that. When I called her on it she said she didn't think there was enough in the inhaler to hurt me, thanks. I had been using VG juice since January. I had taken 250 direct lung inhales of PG and by the time I realized it I had blisters in my mouth and down my throat. I don't even want to know what it did to my lungs. I have been hacking up oysters again for over a week, like when I smoked!
I don't mean to scare anybody away. I certainly could have used PG and allergies as an excuse to go back to analogs (which also contain PG) a long time ago. There are alternatives! Don't give up on ecigs, just find a way they can work for you!
I'm just trying to say that there REALLY ARE people out there who react horribly to PG. It's very scarey and it's dangerous. And there is alternatives. I only use Ecopure unflavored and a little menthol when I'm bored. I smoked 2 packs a day for 34 years and I vape like a mad woman.
So I think if you have a negative reaction to PG juice. Go to a unflavored VG for a few days. Slowly add back in PG. If that goes okay, then slowly add flavoring. I did this a number of times before I realized there is no way I could use ANY PG. When I do I can't breathe, along with many more symptoms. I even had to go through all my products and make up, lotions, soaps, etc. and got rid of all of it. By the way, I discovered the hard way that they put on temporary dental crowns with an adhesive that contains PG :(
PG free is okay guys. It's not anti ecig. It's just an alternative.
Just my experience.
By the way Steve, thanks for everything. I got my first e cigs from you back in January. Still using my Pilot Hybrid and still have one of my original 901 attys. Love my PS passthrough and Protege with all the adaptors. Casey is a sweetie, huge help whenever I've had questions. I really appreciate you guys.

I have tried exactly what you stated, i tried again this morning just to be sure with the "other juice" (i won't mention it again, it was stated earlier), but its still gross. PS juice has never been a problem, i could inhale that shet through my eyeballs and it would be awesome!!

Wow... I never did smoke with direct lung inhales. I draw smoke and vapor to the mouth before inhaling to the lungs. In smoking, this make it smooth. Direct lung inhales are certainly harsh.
