As the title says has anyone done this? I'm still making attempts at rebuilding my Aspire BDC's, using 2mm coils with 2mm silica. When I unravel the silica to stay in place it is fine, but I have noticed that when I take them apart after a short time the silica wick has shrunken or something and leaves enough space that I think cotton can go.
I really wanted to see if this is possible before I waste anymore of my kanthal and wick, and if there is any problems that can occur. I have ran into so many issues rebuilding these that I am beginning to wonder if it is even worth it.
Another thought, is it possible to put the coils in without any wick, then stuff cotton down so it will wick better from the fluid holes on the sides? It seems I have a lot of them fail from wires touching each other when I assemble them.
