I'm just curious, because on another forum, I came across someone claiming that 10440s will usually fail in small ways instead of exploding. I'm just wondering if anyone here has had an experience with a catastrophic 10440 failure.
I had one heat up real hot due to cutting the protective cover on the end making a mod while working on getting the battery to fit. Wasn`t pretty but wasn`t any sparks flying, flames or other damage caused by it. Just one no longer good battery.
I noticed it due to a electric getting to hot type smell.
Other then that I`ve had no bad things happen with these batteries yet.
And haven`t heard of any. Except for one other member here. Think that was a short or another cut protection cover issue. I`ll wait and see if they respond.
Keep in mind the people who use 10440s here are usually using protected ones, and I would bet very few people here have used unprotected ones. No surprise there hasn't been an explosion shared, if that is the case, which simply means the protection circuitry is doing it's job.
the 10440 protected is not around for a long time. only a few months. and unprotected 10440 are very much used. i never heard of something really bad concerning 10440s.
every cigar and janty stick sold in the past used these, and lots of mods.
And, keep in mind that some of the mod's, like my Precise, will NOT work with the unprotected ones..too short. I'm sure most modders will be building theirs in this fashion too. Why take the risk that some yahoo blows up his mod that YOU built and then turn around and take you to court?
