Has anyone tried having a cigarette lately?

I have a real smoke every now and then; usually a friend who smokes will offer me one. I will say that I do enjoy it during the right occasion, but not enough for me to run out and buy a pack.

Sometimes I'll ask a friend for a cigarette and they'll say something like, "Are you sure about that man?" (as if giving me one would be like giving crack to an crack addict ) What I'm saying is that I can enjoy a smoke, but I ultimately prefer vaping.

I'm still working on quitting myself. vaping is helping A LOT, though. I have an app on my phone to help me "dial back" the number of cigarettes I smoke per day. I was smoking about 12 a day (down from ~20) using the app but the last couple days I've had five each day.

I had a cigarette five and a half hours ago, but I'm happy with my e-cig right now and honestly just don't want a cigarette at the moment. It's funny. I find myself more and more thinking that I want a vape when it used to be that I wanted a smoke. It's things like taking a shower or walking around the store that I'm talking about. You know the times when you're thinking "I'll smoke as soon as I'm done with..."

Now it's "I'll vape as soon as I'm done."

I'm actually pretty amazed by it. I've still a little ways to go but I really feel like I'm getting there!

I'm with the guys (and gals) who say they don't know how they smoked for all those years. My GF still smokes and I can't stand the smell. And kissing her is pretty bad too. I made her really mad the other day. She kissed me and I said "ugh" afterwards. I thought I was a dead man. "Whatcha mean ugh?" "We'll see if I ever kiss you again." I tried to explain that it was the cigs but she wasn't hearing it. She barely talked to me the rest of the day.

Back in 2010 after 4 months of straight vaping, our power got shut off because of some financial hard times back in those days. No power, couldn't charge ecigs so I broke down and bought a pack and those first few smokes made me literally ill. I should of taken the cue but my dumb .... didn't.
I tried to go back to my egos back when my power came back on but it tasted weird to me and I tapered off.

Took me long enough, but I finally quit again. Couldn't breathe, couldn't keep up, felt horrid most the time. I won't look back. I can't. If somehow I can't vape anymore, I won't be buying another pack of smokes. I'll chew on pens and gum.

Good for you! And not in a sarcastic or demeaning kind of way. Seriously! I tried it all too (except Chantix), and vaping has kept me smoke free for WEEKS at a time, while all the other cessation aids just ...... me off, because while I was getting nicotine, my brain didn't believe it. I would smoke while I had nicotine gum in my mouth. And the patch just didn't seem to do anything at all.

But even with vaping, I still get these awful cravings. But when I give into them, as I have 4 times now, it's just gross, and I don't want to do it again.

Just don't beat yourself up about it. Think about all the cigarettes you're not smoking. The glass is half full, instead of half empty, and all that. :)

Exactly :toast:

Over the last 2 months since I "quit," I've had a grand total of 4 cigarettes. Twice offered by 2 different friends, and twice I lit up by myself. I actually didn't mind the taste while I was having a cigarette for social purposes, but having it by myself? I just can't stand the taste.

There are many things I am enjoying about not being a "smoker" anymore, advantages that are discussed on ECF all the time, but one of the things I really like about quitting, but not often discussed here, is that if/when I do have a cigarette, I'm quite secure and relatively confident that as long as I have my vapes, I won't need to have cigarette.

I tried quitting many times before, and all it took was ONE, just ONE cigarette and I was hooked again. Not anymore though. This is a great feeling.

Spot on. That's exactly what I do think. I also know it's not possible that I used to smoke as much as it seems like I've given up.

I started vaping almost 2.5 years ago. Got my first kit (808 cigalike) and had half a pack left. It took me a full week to finish that pack and in fact I stopped entirely for about 4 days with 2 left in that pack. Tried to light up again and couldn't finish it. Immediately took a shower and gargled some mouthwash (and I still smelled it on me!). The taste and smell and general ickiness I felt was memorable enough for me that I have not been tempted to pick one up since. And oh boy, those cigarettes were my best friend since the age of 14! For a long time I would feel physically ill just smelling smoke. That has changed (thank goodness) and like a previous poster mentioned, I kind of like the smell of smoke when it is outdoors now.

Had my penultimate cigarette two weeks ago. I stopped 9 months ago but kept my last pack of smokes just in case.
After 2-3 inhales i felt sullied and put it out. All i could taste was chemicals and my mouth felt as though i'd been gassed. Gross.
I am saving the last one for when my brain tells me how good smoking was (probably in 2-3 months). The physical reality is worlds away from the remembered one.
How in Bods name did i ever convince myself i was enjoying smoking ?!!

I am amazed how the smell sticks to you...to everything. I haven't smoked in my car since late January. I vacuumed, windexed, cleaned, fumigated and all these months I felt like the smell was gone. The other day, after the car sat in the heat and sun for hours, I felt like the smell came back...like the heat loosened some things up in there. Go away!!

I have had a drag here and there, my husband still smokes the stinky ones. What I am finding is that, compared to my e cigg, it is not any more rewarding to smoke a stinky cigg. I love my ecigg so much. It has been 3 weeks now since I quit...but I DO allow myself to have a drag here and there, to remember that it is NOT what I remember it to be, and It sets me right back to loving my new vaping lifestyle!

This weekend, I took a drag off a cigarette from a friend. It was the first time I tried to smoke after vaping. I couldn't believe how different smoking tasted in just over a month. It tasted like I had licked an ashtray, and I even had a few drinks in me and it still was awful. I'm actually glad I did try a drag, it convinced me how much better it is to vape.
