OK, not to toot my horn, but I made my first perfect ss mesh coil with not hot spot and no short in less than 20 mins!

I did a variation on the Peter K method. Since I didn't want to use a drill bit, I rolled my ss mesh and before I torched it, I coiled some kanthal wire around it making sure it wasn't too tight and that the mesh rotated easily enough in the coil. Then I put it in the atomizer and slowly twisted the mesh out. Then I did the torching and juice burn. When I put the mesh in all prepared and fired it, all even glow!!!

Now waiting for my ceramic wicks to come in. I think USPS took Supertramps' song "Take the Long Way Home" a bit too seriously with my package. It's taking a long way to my home. But, I'm patient, very patient. Monkey's are patient creatures. Very patient...

Why are they doing this to me!!!!

Thanks! Giant taught me that in one of his shows. He showed us how to do a coil using Peter K's method. From that I thought it should work with anything that is about the size of the wick, so I thought to myself, why not just use the wick itself? And it worked. After 4 months of doing this, this is my first time that I got it on the first try. I'll keep doing it this way, and when my ceramic wicks come in, I won't have to worry about any of this. :D

Nice! I've only made 1 successful coil, but Giant's help and tips through skype really helped. I'm fully confident that I'll be able build another. I built this one a few days or a week ago, and just took the mesh out tonight and dry burned the coil to get rid of all the gunk, and it works good as new, with no signs of stopping. I like the idea of going longer in between builds. Though my ody only gets used when I leave the house. I feel like I'm wasting it. Monkey, what do you use when you are out and about? I wish I could trade my ody for a gennie, but with work and school, I wouldn't be able to.

Giant, I know you told me that you are a zombie, and never the leave the house. But in that rare occasion, what do you use?

Let me know how you like that. I don't think I've heard of that yet.

I've read a bit on the ss rope, but I heard that it is really difficult to work shorts out.. I think it is because the rope isn't completely round, but a few strands of ss braided together?

Yeah there is a thread with a few of us trying things out.... apparently the wicking is phenomenal with it and its been succesfully done by oxidizing mesh around the rope. I just got my rope in the mail so I havent tried it yet. In theory it should work.

I never take my RBAs out. Those are reserved for home use. I take my vivi novas or my carto tanks when I'm going out. I feel that those are very portable.

I guess I can make my AGA-Ts fool proof by making a really fat wick and screwing down the fill hole, but there are way too many things that can go wrong with RBAs and me out and about. This is one reason why I haven't given up on carto tanks yet.

Maybe I'll try this out with my vivi novas. I have ss mesh that has been cut down to the point where I can't make a wick for my RBAs. I'll try cutting them into narrow strips, then torch where the coil would go. That's a good idea.

ooooh.... I never thought of using stainless on a vivi nova. I just started using one and have to say I love it. The portability is great..... have run 4-5 tanks through it with no hassle (knock on wood). Had a few kanger T3's and they both leaked after 1 day of use.

I was actually thinking about selling the ody for a cheap carto tank. I'm just so worried the filler will taste like crap  I'll probably rebuild this vivi nova I found a few days ago. Though I have had really mixed results with those in the past. Either burnt rubber, horrible wicking, or flooding.

OK, I just tried ss mesh on a vivi nova. I went through all the steps as doing a regular ss mesh wick, but took less time because the mesh were really think. I put two strands. The coils were glowing evenly so I assumed no short. Made a 1.8 ohm coil, and it seems to be working so far. Better flavor, too, it seems. I wanted longer wicks, but didn't want to waste my ss mesh sheets. I'll try longer wicks later. These were medium length.

Thanks for the idea.

It depends on the carto manufacturer. The smoktechs are a hit and miss, in my opinion. The boges work and taste better. The kangers are great, but hard to find and the xl is pretty long, more than 45mm I would say. Probably more like 55mm, which is weird.

If you want to try a tank, I have one loaded but I can empty it out and send it to you with some boge cartos. But you'll need to punch the cartos. Or I can punch them for you.

is that a genny? Ive heard of it but never seen it

Edit: nevermind just looked at them. Those are really nice. Any idea how often they come out?

I think they are done with production.. So classifieds are pretty much the only place to find them =\

Looking into a macaveli too. Need some input on that too. I'll probably hit up giants show replay though tomorrow. Its 430am. My sleep schedule is so screwed.
