I was on and off cigarettes for four years before I finally gave them up for good on my 48th birthday. In the month and a half since I quit I feel so much better. I fell off the wagon more times then I can count. I just looked at it as minor set backs, no big deal. At least I smoked less. Just be patient and enjoy the hobby, the stress will ease and you will find yourself smoking less and vaping more. It will happen on it's own if you let it. Good luck, we are here to help.

Just keep trying... you will one day realize that you no longer think about cigs like you used to. Half of the battle is redirecting your thoughts to something else, switching gears so to speak. I kept saying to myself, ok I have done without for one hour, lets try two. Two, lets try four and so on. Then it became a day... Be sure that you are using the right nicotine dose though. You do not want to over do it, but you also don't want to under do it in the beginning.
check out posts from others and my blog as well: Why Switch? | MyFreedomSmokes Blog here you will find tips and be able to share your thoughts and experience with others.
Best to you and hang in there!

I really need some support and encouragement. I like eCigs and I'm invested in this, but I'm not used to it yet. I am having a hard time with my addiction to smoking and went out and bought a carton of cigarettes last night when I originally planned to visit a Cignot store for more juice.

You are NOT alone! Many folks did the same and denied it; YOU acknowledge it and because of that I BELIEVE you will kick the habit.

IF you really want to quit - I see you making that carton go a LOT longer than in the past. So you smoke and vape. Again - you are NOT alone. However, if instead of smoking a cigarette you vape only one more time a WEEK I truly believe you WILL see the instances where you vape INCREASE and those where you smoke the real deal GO DOWN. When that carton starts lasting longer - you will have proof it is working.

TRY and NOT beat yourself up when you smoke a real cigarette. It can take time to kick the habit. I was fortunate. I smoked the better part of EIGHT DECADES and after a week I was comfortable enough to be OBSESSED with vaping and not smoking the real deal. I was FORTUNATE! I STARTED VAPING on 11-18-2013 and had my "last" real cigarette on 11-27-2013. Do I find myself TEMPTED? Oh hell yes - but IT PASSES and the times I think about smoking are fewer and fewer each several days.

These devices we use may or may not be shown to be "safe" in the long term; but, never forget - YOU KNOW that real cigarettes ARE BAD. If you didn't BELIEVE they are you would NEVER have purchased your first ALTERNATIVE DEVICE. Be tough - it WILL BE TOUGH to do it - but YOU CAN do it. A month - a year - two years - every moment where you vape instead of smoke will be a positive moment. In time you won't buy a carton - you buy a BOX with all sort of "goodies" you read about.

WELL DONE ... you recognized that you might want to SMOKE and bought a CARTON! Then - you sat down and asked for help! YOU WANT TO QUIT! Go as slowly as you need to so you are comfortable. One real cigarettes smoked is NOT FAILURE! It is a moment you will realize you could have VAPED and again - over time - YOU will! I have 5 UNopened packs and ONE OPENED PACK in my truck console; right at my elbow - just a reach away. I thought about them every time I got in the truck - EVERY TIME - but less and less as the DAYS passed. Now - I swear on all that is important - I get in the truck and it does not enter my mind unless I 'pop' the console to hide my vaping 'spares'. It JUST HAPPENED and it can happen for you too! When YOU are least expecting it to happen you'll discover "IT HAS"!!

Be well! Enough of the cheers for now. YOU are ON your way! Enjoy the carton - you did NOT fail!

Senile Old Man Don ........... KNOWS success is in your future! BELIEVE YOU CAN!

When I decided to vape I bought a beginners kit with 18mg cartridges and while waiting bought a carton of cigarettes. Well my kit came in 2 days later and I started vaping. It took me 2 weeks to finish that carton of cigarettes whereas before I'd have finished it in 5 days. Once it was finished I didn't smoke another cigarette but I bought a pack to have on me as security. It took me 3 months before I was comfortable enough to give that pack away and not buy another. When I would have cravings I'd just vape my way through them. They do become less frequent and tend to stop by 6 months altogether. I'm 6 days away from my 1yr anniversary being cigarette free. I just took it 1 day at a time, then 1 week, 1 month, etc.... It does get easier. Go ahead and vape while you smoke. Make sure you are vaping at a high enough mg of nicotine. If you smoke full flavor smoke at least 18mg's, lights=16mg, ultra light=14mg......you can go higher if 18 isn't enough but do not exceed 36mg (usually reserved for cigar smokers). Good Luck on your journey and know you are not alone and we will be here for you! Happy Vaping :vapor:

When you fall off... just get back on. I've been trying for almost a year... and I keep sneaking a stinky every now and again. Until this week (so far)... 5 days straight no stinkies.

If you really want to stop... just don't give up. It is a hard thing to do... even with a substitute... Good luck!

Too add to my previous comment...

My mother does the same thing. I've been converting her for a month or two now. She really enjoys vaping and thinks she can quit with it - but every time I check in with her, she has just bought another carton.

MOM!

I get that it's hard to quit smoking - believe me....I've stopped smoking LOTS of times over the past 20+ years...but there are certain things you can do to help yourself. First - make it more inconvenient to smoke. Having a carton on hand is not really incentive to quit - the contrary actually - you'll likely feel obligated to finish it because it cost so much!

If you do break down - try buying a pack. Maybe you'll get tired of always going out to get them when you have your PV so conveniently close to you all the time. It's just easier to vape.

Crap! I forgot the nicotine level. I HAD TO BUY my juice LOCALLY even though it was less expensive online. I bought SMALL - paid MORE and in a couple weeks I found the best level for ME. There is NO NEED to go to "ZERO"! You might WANT TO - but don't sweat it early on. Find that level that does not make you DIZZY or SICK. ALSO ...... the ingredients in the juice can be culprit ...... too much "VG' or PG" can do the same thing as NICOTINE. This is why I suggest a LOCAL SHOP if at all possible. Again - more costly - but worth the money.

See how many "sellers" there are here on ECF? They are but a FEW! Every single one can sell a juice named "Regular Tobacco" at say 18mg PER milliliter and the vast majority can taste different - while on the flip side they taste the same. It only takes slightly more of ANY ingredient (again "VG or PG") , a different flavoring or even a different time the juice spends in the bottle before it gets to you to make a BIG difference.

The NICOTINE level you believe is making you sick may NOT be the culprit. If you use a local shop they can suggest variations. If you are not allergic to the "flavoring" they use and assuming they use GOOD "VG and PG" any combination can work best for YOU - just as it can make you ill. You may need to experiment.

You will find hundreds of recommendations about "the best juice ever". It's all subjective so do NOT buy into the hype. Yes, recommendations ARE a great help - but I see them as SUGGESTIONS - not FACT. Again - the "local shop" suggestion may not work for you if you are allergic to their ingredients or - gawd forbid - they use junk in their juice to jack up profits. I believe FEW DO because it si not in THEIR best interest to sell juice that people hate. I would rather be able to walk into a local shop and tell them what I am experiencing than e-mail someone and tell them I have an issue.

And enough of Old Man Don .............. I ramble and tend to over-state my views. I hope you get what I rambled on about! And ........... IF you buy another CARTON .......... you are not the only one out here who has done so! YOU ADMIT IT ........ MANY DON'T!

Have you tried WTA (Whole Tobacco Alkaloid)? That seems to help some folks. There is also NET (Naturally Extracted Tobacco) that can give more of the "real" tobacco taste. Both options are expensive, though. I was a menthol chaser, NFC paper allergic, and cheapskate that didn't really like the taste of tobacco so it wasn't an issue for me but I know my relatives that are "Marlboro or die" folks will take money out of their food budget to pay for their brand name cigarettes are the least likely to stick with vaping. The cheapskate non-menthol smokers were easier to convert since they didn't like the taste of what they were smoking anyway--like me and my menthol unicorns. 6 months later and I don't even like menthol vapes. Weird but it makes those last 18 Extreme Menthol cigarillos I keep as a security blanket even less appealing. I have to keep the ashtrays for the Marlboro or die relatives.

My other half still smokes roll ups (which I have to roll for her as she can't roll to save her life) I found this tempting in the early days. Just been for some beers to the local shop, he reached for a 50 gram pouch of Amber Leaf instinctively (not been there for a few weeks) telling him to put it back was one of the hardest things I've done since quitting.

It will take time, it will be hard, it will take a while to get your juice right, your battery right, your tank right, etc. Just keep at it :)

If you choose to have the odd "smoke" - fair enough, it's your choice to approach it as you see fit - no-one here is the same, and your approach will be completely different to mine. What works for me probably won't work for you and vice versa, it's all about sticking with it until you find the sweet spot for you.

You may find you never move completely away from analogue ciggies, so what - if vaping can go hand in hand and it cuts you down then you will notice an improvement there - harm reduction, it doesn't necessarily need to be "stop smoking altogether"

For me, I was done with smoking and wanting to move 100% to vaping, but that's my choice. You evidently think that vaping has a place in your life and you are probably just working out what works for you. We all know how tough it is, we are all supportive, and I hope you find some success.

Don't beat yourself up though for buying a pack of smokes, just roll with it and see where you end up. I definitely don't have a "vape or else" attitude, nor does anyone else here I've met :)

The issue for me is that I enjoy smoking. It relaxes me. And although it's short lived, it's rewarding to me. Therefore I smoke all the time to keep the reward coming. I think it's even harder sometimes to give up something you really like... if that makes any sense.

This was exactly the problem I had, I LOVED Tobacco! I dipped at least a can of Copenhagen a day, I smoked between 1.5 to 2 packs a day, and I had a Cigar every evening after dinner. Yes, all those, everyday for 35 years. I like the way tobacco tastes, smells and it's rituals. I found it quite relaxing and comforting.
I find myself quite enjoying the vaping rituals and flavors now. I have not found any tobacco flavors that I like because to my tastes they all fall short. I am enjoying a lot of the desert, fruit and candy flavors out there. It did not happen over night, it was a long process for me. I still have 6 Macanudo Cigars in the humidor that I cannot bring my self to throw away or give away. I still take them out and smell them :)

I can relate to what you're going through right now. There was a time when I thought I was just wasting money vaping, and still smoking too. Even more than I used to. The whole process of switching to vaping was stressing me out so terribly that I'd find myself like a junkie scouring the neighborhood at 4 AM looking for any store that sold stinkies at that godless hour. But guess what? It does get better. Vaping offers plenty of options that smoking would never give us. You can explore the myriad juices offered out there, or make your own. You can fiddle with rebuildables and obsess over how you can make have the best vape out of the gear you have. You can modify your equipment and make them perform or look better. You can spend hours here on ECF talking about all these experiences and more. All these things are very helpful in keeping you occupied, that one day you'll just "forget" that you crave for real cigarettes.

Don't worry, you'll get there.

don't be hard on yourself... some people go through this time and time again... i would recommend perhaps changing your daily habits where you can. i smoked a lot when i was at my computer.. so i changed where my computer was placed in the house and changed some other things revolved around my computer usage... this helped me with the transitioning and "triggers" i wish you well and do recommend the full flavored liquids (24 +) that may also help
good luck to you

It gets hard sometimes, I chain vape myself. I was a 3 pack a day smoker. For me it was finding a flavor I really liked. Something you can smoke all day. I started with 18mg but it was just for my body. Found that 12 mg I can chain vape and not get sick. If on occasion I find myself needing that real feel of analogs. I actually buy one of those 2 packs of flavored cigars so I don't put an actual cig in my mouth. Really think it's all about finding the right flavor. Luckily I found one I really like right off the bat. That I can smoke all day. I'm a menthol head, I ended up buying the Halo triton and got the menthol sampler. And I'm in love with subzero
