Having an issue with an ingredient of my DIY

Hi there,

I had my first attempt of DIY-Liquid three days ago. Actually went quite well. Had a few other people tasting it which were surprised it tastes so good (hrhr ). However, after 2-3 days I could really notice a smell/taste of alcohol in my vape. It's doesn't really smell all that bad and I'm still vaping it but the taste of strawberry is completly gone and I can only really taste the alcohol in which I dissolved my menthol crystals. There is still a hint of menthol but not really strong. Might be the steeping process which changed it into worse.

I dissolved 10mg menthol crystals in 10ml of pure alcohol.

My liquid consists of
- 10ml 12mg nic base
- 0,3ml menthol flavor
- 0,1ml strawberry flavor

My idea was to increase the crystals per ml of alcohol to increase strength of the solution so that I have to use less alcohol to create the desired menthol effect.

Any opinions? Have you ever noticed that taste, too?

Edit: sorry I misread

You can also dissolve the crystal into PG at about 10% with a little heat. So if your target is 12mg order some 24mg. Then mix your pg menthol with the desired balance of VG. Do half nic and half your own mix with flavoring.

Have you tried doing it with PG? I've read that it's very hard to dissolve in PG and that the dissolved menthol might become crystalline again.

When I need to dissolve something in pg I heat it in the microwave (in a coffee cup) then mix it in, if it is not fully dissolved I put it back to nuke for about 10 seconds.

Thats not alot of crystals for 10 ml, I use a ratio of 5 to 1 , crystals to alcohol,(vodka)
the steeping was most likely a help, that it got rid of some alcohol taste

I just keep adding crystals, heating and stirring until I can't anymore and they want to pop out of solution (tiny bit at a time towards the end obviously or you'll have to add more solvent to fix it)

Either way 3% booze isn't much at all, though you may have a sensitive palate.

Are you using all PG as your base? I overnight became kind of miffed with the taste of PG as it started tasting like alcohol to me.

What the horse said, but I do it backwards. I fill 3/4 of a bottle with crushed menthol and then drip in PGA, shake, and repeat until the crystals "just" disappear. I've never noticed my menthol flavor lessening or the alcohol notes increasing with steeping. (Usually just the opposite)

thx for the tips guys. Just put my remaning 40g of crystals into 10ml of alcohol now and it took some time dissolve but heat helped well. gonna try it soon.
