I have smoked Djarum Blacks for about 10 years now and am rather ready to quit, even though I still enjoy smoking very much I know that I need to quit ASAP. I'm hoping that someone else on here that only smoked cloves(especially Blacks) can give me some confidence that this will work long term, because I just keep going back to the real thing again and again, and hating myself for it.

So far I have found out a few things:

1) Cloves are a depressant/downer, and nicotine is a stimulant/upper. This is very clear when I drink: cloves seem to bring me down, while ecigs seem to excite my drunkenness.

2) I've always known this, but it has become more clear through vaping: cloves have a smaller percentage of nicotine in them that regular cigarettes. As I've started vaping I've found that if I go over 12mg, I really start to get the beginning smoker's high, which can be uncomfortable and send me back to cloves.

3) Clove eliquids suck. Tasty Vapor's is the closest, but is definitely not dead on; while everything else pretty much sucks, and this is after trying out around 15 flavors from different vendors.

I have tried all of the ego batteries, the Woo(returned it because it was toasting every atomizer including 3.2 and 4.0ohm, will be post about that ordeal later), Vision spinners(the 650mah's are awesome! and better than the ego twist), and will be receiving some V4L batteries soon.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Personnally, I would try to find something else you like more than the cloves. The folks I see looking for the perfect taste to what they used before have trouble. The ego batteries are really good. I wonder if you are hitting the atty'swith too much power? 4.0 ohms is too high for and ego, but someone else can explain that better than me. Also, keep the atty's clean and they are going to last longer. I find the 2.4 ohm clero atty's work perfectly with ego's

Hi. I smoked Djarum Blacks for 7 years (never smoked anything else).

I haven't noticed the downer/upper aspect that you experience.

I was able to quit cloves after 2-3 weeks of vaping. I hardly think about my ole cloves anymore.

Before I started vaping, I didn't know if it would be for me; I wondered how I was going to find a djarum tasting e-liquid. I've only been vaping about 1.5 months and I actually have never even tried any clove flavors.
Vaping different kinds of flavors (dessert, fruit) is something I didn't think would work for me - but it has.

I found that I cannot vape anything more than 12mg. I usually buy 6mg or 9mg. Because of the "harshness" I was used to with the cloves - I tend to stick to a higher pg percentage for more throat hit. 70/30.

I am still trying to find excellent flavors. I have so many samples that it's ridiculous. I personally think Fuzion, Mountain Oak Vapor and some Mount Baker juices are my favorites so far. Because I usually order coffee/dessert types - I usually let them steep a week or two so that they taste better.

I only smoked Djarum specials for 15 years could never smoke a normal tobacco cig and I just completed my first week without a clove. I was having 1 or 2 a day for the past few months and just decided to not smoke them anymore.

I found spicy cinnamon flavors help me a ton. I mix a strong cinnamon with a tobacco or sweet flavors and it keeps me from wanting a clove. The cinnamon give me the TH I used to get with the cloves.

Thank you for the thoughtful responses, and liquid recommendations.

I have been thinking that I just need to abandon my quest for a clove flavor, although that doesn't solve my problem of the difference in effect. I think I am just now actually getting used to the feeling of the nicotine high, and am hoping that this transition might help the other.

@DeeDee: I was not using the 4ohm atomizers with eGo batteries, only with the Woo, and now to some success with my Vision Spinner at around 4.5V.

@Legosaurus: Congrats on quitting! Seems like we share the same intolerance to the higher nicotine levels, if a few more people confer, then that would affirm my understanding that cloves have less nicotine.

@dmazyn: I smoked specials for about 2 years before I found blacks and never turned back. After Blacks, Specials just seemed harsher, and didn't give the same feeling.

Overall, it just seems like the process of transitioning from smoking to vaping is a bit different for a clove smoker. Would love to hear more reflections from the community, especially former Djarum Black smokers.

I am not a big Clove fan, but Johnson Creek's Marcado is pretty close. A sampler is only $3.95 for 5 ml, but it's 18 mg which may or not be too high for you (you can get 11 mg of 15 ml's for $9.95). Lots of vapor and throat hit, but I think it needs a little less cinnamon and more clove (nit picking there). They are designed for their Vea's which are 650 mah's, so that may work for you.
