Heat Shrink

I'm futzing around and doing minor surgery on several mods... And to isolate some of the connections that I've made in a home built atty I am applying some heat shrink to keep the pos and negs away from each other and the shell...

My question is whether anyone knows of any long term use of heat shrink in direct contact with ejuice? (Not using it on wiring or anything - I am talking about having it directly in the atty)

I'd be concerned that it wouldn't handle the temperatures it will be exposed to if it is really close to the coil. How hot does it get? The stuff I have from molex lists an operating range of up to 110 deg C. Doesn't say what happens after that. Most of it is made out of PVC, and I don't think inhaling burning PVC would be a good idea...

cool I salvage the insulators and center post and put the carts in a baggie (hefty baggie).
I'll go through them and yank the whatchmacallit out of them too.
(hoping for SS price to kick up a bit)
Thanks

anybody else squeeze all the juice out of dead cartos?

Ya, Insulator. Thats the bugger.
Been know to squeeze a few cartos in my day. also I tip all my juice bottles upside down on a carto condom to git trhe last drop.

I can't really tell what you are using for the terminals from that picture (and didn't really feel like reading the entire 30 page thread). But by the looks of it...maybe you could find the right gauge of wire to strip the insulation from and use that? I'm thinking house hold wiring which can come in some pretty thick sizes. And that insulation is usually rated to withstand pretty high heats and is designed to be flame resistant.

House wiring would be a good fit but stiff. I've only got about 3800 feet of the 18 gauge left. And its high temp magnet wire.
I use the terminal in connectors for box mods and and test fixtures to measure resistance current and voltages in mods and attys/cartos. The extended center contact is a lot easier to work with than the short center contact in some connectors.

Besides, I'll trade an hour's labor for a buck anyday :)

In case someone wants this for future reference....
I have been using this atty pretty much exclusively since November 6th... Just replacing the coil and fiber every two weeks or so. Today - for the first time - it stopped working, so I went to my emergency backup for the rest of the day.. Got home and just took it apart...

The solder broke before the heat shrink degraded! :)

Y'all are crazy. Yet another reason I buy atties......... That stuff (heat-shrink tube) smells bad... and probably is bad. Who knows what leaches out of it.....

I applaud your ingenuity in making atties, but I plan on staying way away from heat-shrink inside the atty. Good luck with em tho.....

Does that include C-E2's ? they have it in them.
For the most part I think that most heat shrink tube is made from PVC, I wonder how many homes use that for their water pipes.

lol. gummmmmyyyyyy..... you need to do some chillaxing. It was just an idle lol type comment... don't take it too personally. It was meant to be light-hearted.

However.... PVC pipe doesn't smell like heat-shrink tube, and isn't heated with a heating coil.......... AND PVC produces noxious fumes if it is.

Are you sure it's the same stuff as in the C-E2's? I not saying I'm correct, only that I'm suspicious of it. Someone said something about FEP being different (post 13).

Oh, and.....

No, No Atty,, we're cool....
A quick google of heat shrink shows that it can and is made from several thermoplastics but that PVC is the most popular.
and yea it does smell a bit when it is first opened but that goes away in a day or two. As for the E-2's well I worry more about the mystery primer fluid than which heat shrink or wire or glue or solder or flux or type of metal or, or, or, or,,,
Sure there are things that we don't want to put into our bodies but it seems like no matter what someone mentions in the modder's threads to use someone else says that it isn't safe. We even had people questioning if Lexan was safe for the tanks, So I'm sorry for coming on a little strong at you about heat shrink.

Cool?
