Round 3, entry 4
If you're just getting into RDA/RTA, be prepared for a bit of science/tech learning. With a little care, and the proper tools, making and installing your own
coils is not difficult, but does take patience and some precision.
With modern power-regulated mods, which have built-in protections, there isn't much risk -- if you accidentally create a short-circuit, no biggie, the mod will prevent the battery from getting too high a current draw. With pure mechanicals on the other hand, make sure to install
coils tightly and do a resistance check -- if the resistance is too low, or short circuit, either make a new, higher resistance, coil, or fix the short circuit.
I use a little standalone 510 resistance checker, as it's also handy as a jig for installing the
coils and wicks.
When checking resistance, make sure to also check after the chimney part is attached -- you can have a coil touch the chimney wall, creating a short circuit, even if a check of just the coil mounted on the build deck looks okay.
