We just started DIY liquids about a week and a half ago. We are using all VG with 20% DW to thin it some (the DW is half .09 saline). Before we started DIY we were using liquids of various mixes (40/60, 50/50, 60/40, and what they told us was 100% vg but I'm not so sure of that because it didn't really look thick enough). Since we've been doing DIY my husband says that vaping seems to be feeling very heavy on his lungs and he's had a cough. Yesterday he didn't use anything except for a pre-mix of 50/50 liquid and he said it didn't seem to make a whole lot of difference. So maybe since it was just one day, maybe it's going to take a little time for the different mix to help, I don't know. Maybe we should use some pg in our mixes?

Anyway, is it possible for the liquid that we're making (all vg with 20% DW) to make his lungs feel "heavy"? Can the DW be bothering him? Can a full vg mix be too much for the lungs? He's getting frustrated so I'd really like to figure out what the problem might be so he doesn't go back to cigarettes full-time. So I'd be forever grateful for any suggestions that may help him.

Thank you everyone

I have noticed an occasional allergy since I started vaping especially in the fall when I can smell the fallen leaves. I used to think it was just a cold when I smoked. Now I am more aware of my minor allergies and take a generic version of Zirtech at the first hint a problem may be coming up and don't have any problems.

I use a 50/50 mix and no water. Have you tried different flavorings? I try to stay away from oils.:2c:

When I have vaped nearly all VG, I felt the same heavy, thick feeling in my lungs. When I combined the VG and PG to 70 VG and 30 PG, the heaviness subsided, but I felt it was lingering still. Now I am back down to 50/50 and 60/40.
Good Luck.

Do you by any chance remember how long it took to subside?

Think maybe we should move away from the full vg mixes. I've had more sinus issues lately too, so that's probably the culprit there too.

We haven't used any oils and since we just started DIY we kind of went wild with our first batch. We made smaller bottles of 8 flavors, so yes he's tried different flavors and it doesn't seem to matter as far as the flavor goes anyway

I usually vape diy 50/50 to 80/20 PG to VG. I did try heavier VG mixes and to me my lungs felt like I was vaping pudding (best description I could relate it to.)

Wow, it really is beginning to sound like this is his problem. I think we need to make some changes. I hope it clears up fairly quickly for him after he changes mixes. I can't imagine how that might feel.

I just went into a local shop to see if I could get them to sell me some pg and they didn't have any plain pg. They did have a 40 pg / 60 vg mix, so I got some and I'll use it as a base and give that a try; it's near a 50/50 mix. I sure hope this helps. He said his lungs feel better smoking a cigarette than they do vaping right now .... not good.

If I use anything higher than 30% VG, I use 25% water to thin it, or I cannot breathe at all. I have asthma, and I learned very quickly that high-Vg does not agree with me *at all*. I have a couple of juices I really really like that are 50/50, and I have to dilute them, but they're sweet, not my main all-day vape, so somehow I manage to use them without too much trouble. The way I know I'm getting too much VG, before it gets so bad that it's bothering my lungs badly, is a thick congested feeling in my throat, especially around the vocal cords, having to clear my throat before speaking. At that point I try to get back to high PG, at least 75%-80% PG, and I start chugging water like nobody's business, to try and thin it all down, because if it's that bad in my throat, it'll be worse in my lungs if I don't hydrate massively right away.

It does take a few days to clear, if you've been vaping high VG for a while; I used about 33%VG 67%PG for a few days, and one night I woke up and almost could not even use my rescue inhaler, which scared me to death, so I went back to high PG that day, and it took almost a week for my chest to feel fairly normal again. But that throat-congestion feeling can be a good giveaway, to try and fix it before it gets that bad.
