Thanks for your replies. I can see only good news with all the stories.
@Rickajho, you said "don't expect vaping to simply replace smoking". But this is what I expect. If it has the same throat hit as cigs or at least close to them, I can totally replace them. That's my only concern I have. If there's no throat hit, even with regular cigs, I don't feel "full". I smoke Marlboro and sometimes it doesnt hit me so well, so I have to smoke around 3-4 cigs so I can say "im full now".

I have tried patches and indeed I felt like Im gonna vomit if I keep smoking that much (I was decreasing to around 15 cigs a day). But I was affraid Im gonna get too addicted to nicotine so I put all patches away.

Throat hit. That;s all I need. Hope so.

Hi

What I meant was, a lot of people want an e-cig to be just like a cigarette. They want it to taste the same - and it can't because you aren't burning anything. Some people just can't deal with the fiddling required, no matter how little. They want an e-cig to be as easy to use as a cigarette - and in general they are not. Some people only want an e-cig that will "feel" like a cigarette in the hand - and the models that look like a cigarette are usually a big disappointment. Instant nicotine buzz? Ain't gonna happen.

It's a different experience - that's all. It can replace smoking - if it couldn't we would not be here. I'm just saying people who are more open minded about the experience have better success with it. What your particular needs and wants are - we can point you in the right direction(s) to try and get the experience you are looking for. But "exactly like a cigarette" - they are 2 very different things.

As to your quest for throat hit, there are a lot of things about an e-cig that can be adjusted. The first thing you want to try are high PG liquids. In general PG produces more throat hit and most report better flavor sensations, VG produces more vapor. and may dull flavors a bit Try high PG liquids first.

After that, the resistance of your device of choice and what voltage you run it at will also impact throat hit.

@Rickajho, you said "don't expect vaping to simply replace smoking". But this is what I expect.

Well, I think he means it's not an exact replacement. Some new folks feel comfortable with the whole smoking... experience? And start off thinking they want "exactly the same". Which isn't really possible if you think about it. Smoking cigs is burning tobacco (and other stuff) and inhaling smoke. The way to get "exactly the same" is... well... smoke a cigarette.

You can, however, get a vaping "experience" that satisfies a lot of what you get out of smoking. And then you find things on top of that which can be even better. Like being able to change flavors. I love that. With cigarettes, it was always the same taste every time. With vaping, I have a choice. And I can switch whenever I feel like it. I got two different flavors sitting on my desk as I type this. I can switch flavors between sentences if I want. :)

Myself, I don't care much for "throat hit" and never did. Even as a smoker, I liked a "smooth" kind of thing. But one thing I do like is the whole inhale/exhale/blow smoke bit. I don't know why. I just do. What's funny about it is that once I got used to doing the vapor thing, I found I could produce way more vapor than smoke when I was smoking. I can blow big, billowy clouds of vapor. Way more "volume" than the smoke. It's funny. It's better than smoking in that way.

(Some folks who do "mods" where they build their own stuff can produce huge clouds of vapor. Some day, I'll probably play around with that myself. :) )

Oh yeah. You can get that. Over here, one of the companies doing the "e-cig" thing is called NJoy. They've gone all out to produce a product "just like a cigarette". Even feels a lot like one. Has a kind of "papery" feel to it. They do "throat hit". I couldn't handle it. It was like bumming a Marlboro Red. Which cigs always irritated my throat and made me cough.

It can be done. Usually it's higher nicotine, PG based liquids. If you have a vape shop that let's you try out juices, that'd be the thing to do. Tell them you're looking for good throat hit and see what they got.

(In fact, with vaping, you can adjust so much to your liking, you could likely find the throat hit you, yourself, like. With cigs, you get whatever they give you. So it could end up being better than regular cigs since you have more control.)

Within the first week just about any cigarette was like a 30 year flash back: They tasted gross, the smell of smoke was disgusting, they made me dizzy and lightheaded - all those fun things you experienced when you started smoking.

That was so weird the first time it happened to me. And what was so weird about it was here I am, 51 years old, tried my first cig at 16 or so (didn't smoke regularly until my twenties) and I knew, immediately, "this is what that first one tasted like".

It was a strange moment. Like you described it, "flash back". Clear as a bell, I knew that was what my first one was like.

PAD or so smoker for 30 years. Tried a couple cartridge starter kits years ago and there just wasn't enough volume and throat/lung hit. Then tried an Ego-C but filling the little cones was seriously gay, and the tapered end wasn't cool, either.

A friend also smoked Camels and had switched to the Kanger T3 and he set me up. I agree, go with 24mg or more. Finding a good juice was a drag. I spent some money on 3 tanks and two batteries and tested juices side by side. One or two were okay. I tossed the rest of them. Working out the resistance, heat was pretty important, too.

it's been 6 weeks, but I never thought I would quit. Never. Now, I'm confident. I like this just as much, or more than analogs. But I have two things going for me. 1) I don't live with someone who smokes. 2) I no longer drink, which can lower the defenses.

Good luck. You can taper off, quit cold turkey, go back and forth. But whatever you do, keep a working kit and some juice around at all times.

You did the right thing going to e cig. Talk about a heavy smoker! I smoked a carton a week for almost 50 years and 3 weeks ago I went to the EVOD e cig and have not had a cigarette since I started. If I can do anyone can. I do use 24mg nicotine juice, but I like the fact that I can change and try new flavors. You can do it as I sure did.

is it very strange how you people talk about flavors. Im not into this or perhaps now at this moment. Maybe after I try some flavors I will change my mind. I have ordered a 24mg 20ml menthol as I enjoy menthol a lot, even if I am a Red Marlboro smoker. I use to mix it with menthol tabbaco when im doing my "puff puff pass" :) and its amazing.

I can't wait to get the order to my door, heard it takes around 2 days. You probably have different brands over there in US but here in London I haven't heard much about brands in my little research I've done. Its amazing to see what a big industry this is.

Talking about first smoke, I remember that happened when I was 8 and it was horrible. By the time I turned 10, I was smoking quite a few daily. Around 12 I remember I was smoking a lot but didn't count how many cause I was always hiding off my parents, so each cig was a real pursuit :) When I turned 14 and got into the high school, I got balls to tell my parents "that's it, im big enough to let me smoke and stop hiding". Since then, not even a day without smoking (32 this october). For me is such a pain that even thinking about quitting im thinking to commit suicide cause I can't live without them. I remember flights where I use to get sweat and irascible for not having a cig for 3-4 hours. Before I go to sleep, I have to smoke 2-3 cigs so I can say "now im full, I can sleep" or, if I wake up to go to the toilet during the night, I need to smoke one. I can't simply wake up without smoking.

So, if I get the desired throat hit I am looking for, this will be like paradise for me. To be able to smoke everywhere whenever I want? WOW.

It is funny. Smoking is a routine, habitual thing with, what, two flavors? And I think most people start out wanting just a substitute for smoking but quickly discover there are all these other, interesting sounding things to try. There are just more options available. I smoked a "light" menthol cig for just forever. I pretty much never touch menthol now. Did just find one called "Blue Ice" I'm liking. Most menthol vapor, I can't stand. I did not expect that. And I have one "tobacco like" vape I use once in a while but not often. Turns out, I like fruit flavors. Especially blueberry and banana. 'Course I like fruit in general but fruity nicotine? Who knew? :)

Heh, well, actually, a good 90% of this stuff is made by the Chinese (who also invented the modern vape system) so not much difference in the main brands. There are some locally built, specialty equipment. The very advanced (and pricey) Provari is made here. And I've seen a few that are made in Europe I'm not familiar with. Seems the high tech, fancy ones are locally made. Most, though, are not just made in China but in one particular city in China. It's funny. A lot of "brands" are a company cuts a deal to "brand" the equipment but it's coming out of the same place all the other stuff is. :)

Oh I remember that panic about quitting. Did try many, many times over the years and they were all horrific, awful periods and I always failed. Last time my doctor said something about it, it was like somebody sucked all the air out of the room. I actually almost had a panic attack.

If somebody had told me a year ago I would switch to a "vapor" device without much effort and lose interest in smoking, I would have laughed in their face (also, blew smoke). But here I am. Shocked my family definitely. They were just stunned. So was I. :)

Well, do be aware that since this thing is new, some people get weird about it. You may not be able to vape just anywhere. Some people think just because it kind of "looks like" smoking, it's the same thing. Vaping is still fairly new and not everybody understands what's going on yet. Things are still in flux. I don't try to vape in "non-smoking" areas myself. No point in picking fights. Also, I get to tell other smokers, "You gotta try this!" :) In my experience, smokers are catching on. I get asked about my PV. They're getting wind there's this new thing and are curious about it.

With all the anti-smoking campaigns (some of which are of a tone that's damn near hysteria), some non-smokers seem to think anything vaguely smoke like will kill everybody in a ten mile range (but haven't figured out yet that having a fireplace or campfire or cook out is almost as bad as smoking and definitely worse than vapor).

But things do change. My relatives let me vape in their cars. They actually like the smell of the vapor. :)

Its quite common to smoke ecigs in pubs here but anyway, when I said everywhere I was referring to my room, kitchen, MOST IMPORTANT toilet :)) people got used to it in London and I saw many people puffing ecigs in posh restaurants.

Thanks everyone for your reply and your thoughts, now everything I have to do is to wait the order and test it!

Heh. Things change for most of us. I went through a very rigid bias against flavors for my first 9 months. Couldn't comprehend why anyone would want to vape a cupcake, let alone a grape anything. But that's ok. The beauty of e-cigs is the flexibility.

Something to consider: Some newbies are really hung up on that "...must be like a cigarette" experience. Other people want this in no way to resemble a cigarette or remind them of what smoking was like. For the latter all those flavors are a godsend. Nobody to my knowledge ever smoked a "cinnamon danish swirl" cigarette. Best thing ever with morning coffee. So much better experience than a... cigarette. Try it - I dare you. lol

To each their own, and in their own time.

Don't forget you guys have region specific support too. The sub forums will be the places to ask about finding vendors, regional legal issues etc.: National Forums

I too have smoked since I was 14 years old and now at 52 I switched to E-Cigs. I did my research as I first tried the chain stores ecigs and they just did not have the hit I needed. I was smoking 21/2 pack a day so I bought a Vision twist battery X2 and clearomizers along with about 10 e-liquids at 2.4mg. I tried the liquids to see if any cough my attention and 4 of them did so I set a switch date as I did not want to vape and smoke. I chose vaping over other methods because inhalation of nicotine is the fastest way into circulation and to my brains nic receptors just like smoking unlike gum or the patch which takes forever and if I needed more nicotine I could just vape more to start the conversion with. Now since 4/28/13 I an down to 0.3 mg mixing about 1/2 of my e-juice and using a MOD unit (SID) and rebuilding my clearomizers to help cut the costs. Each time I went to a lower nic lvel I allowed myself to vape more and then cut back. Also the TH really gave me a boost unlike other quitting methods. In a few months I should be done with nicotine but may still be a vaper who known but thats my story, GOOD Luck

Really? I never see anybody vaping around here. Maybe it caught on over there before it reached us? I'm just now starting to run into smokers that have a vague clue. Maybe it's because Blu is doing aggressive advertising.

One thing I like is not being a fire risk all the time. Texas is in a long drought and there's a wildfire going in my county right now (not close and it's not in a populated area, still, we had a big nasty one in '11 that ripped right past my house... shudder). Got to where I got irritated at other smokers for smoking outdoors. Having a big, destructive fire barely pass you, you get touchy.

I like not getting those, "am I sure I put that last cig out???" moments of panic when I go to the grocery or something...

That's how I've noticed the ecigs and decided to start researching. I've seen people on tubes, buses, pubs and restaurants. Otherwise, I wouldn't notice anyone vaping on the street :)

A quick note about flavors. The hardest reason I had to go completely off cigs is the morning smoke. I liked the throat burn to last through my firs coffee. Couldn't get past the morning smoke till I got some super strong cinnamon red hots flavor that would leave my mouth burning through my morning coffee. Then bye bye cigarettes. One thing to understand is that as you get away from analogs your taste buds change and even flavors you don't like will taste good to you in a Vape.
