Heavy vaping before bed

I only vape about 3ml a day at 12mg nicotine (sometimes mix in some 16mg) Been off cigs almost a month. In the past, tried "the patch" and it helped me cut down on cigs, but several friends warned me to remove it at night because you can have really weird dreams, so I did. Recently, I have been trying new vape juices that I really like... like them too much! I was buzzed on alcohol and just kept vaping my new custard juice (yummy) then went to bed. Sure enough... very strange dreams. Now I try to use moderation before bed. Anyone else had this issue? Maybe it was the alcohol multiplying the effect.

Jebbn, please explain. bombastinator, not enjoyable dreams... not nightmares, but made for restless sleep. Not that I couldn't sleep or would wake up, just kinda disturbing and confusing. Beamslider, yes nicotine is an interesting "drug". First it is relaxing, then gradually stimulating (especially mentally) I actually like that during the day, but not at night. No more mad vaping before bed for me.

Weird dreams happen when you are quitting substances. It a well known fact in the rehabilitation world that you’ll have crazy dreams in the early stages of eliminating harmful substances from your daily intake of substances. Obviously you’re still ingesting nicotine but you’re missing out of the other 367 substances that are added to cigarettes to improve the “customers experience” so say the BT executives. So yeah I think it’s part of the rehabilitation of your life without cigarettes.

Smoking provides sharp spikes and crashes of serotonin at each cigarette . I thought it was due to the nicotine but I'm not so sure now. Once someone quits smoking their serotonin levels level out.
Serotonin is responsible for your dreams. I didn't dream much or vividly while I smoked tobacco, particularly in the later years but once I stopped using tobacco my dreams were not only vivid but weird af

Jebbn, thanks... that makes sense. Funny, in the past if I had a really strange or horrible dream I would wake up and desperately need a smoke... almost afraid to go back to sleep and continue the dream. I am lucky that I tend to sleep very well in general so not a big issue, just "weird af" as you put it.

If you read about serotonin and also its relationship with tobacco or dreams you will get a better understanding of what I was trying to say in a couple of sentences and from my limited understanding.
My quitting experience with vaping nicotine lines up with someone who quit without nicotine replacement, cold turkey. That raises a lot of questions for me because I thought nicotine was the main thing I was trying to extract from tobacco while smoking. I'm not so sure anymore.

I have had strange dreams all my life. More nightmares than not-scary dreams. Doesn’t seem to matter what I’ve ingested, current health or mood, or influences of tv or books or current affairs.

But it doesn’t surprise me that nic has that effect on you, for some people it’s chocolate or spicy food.

I vaped 24mg nic when I was quitting smoking. I vaped all day up until right before bed, but I was vaping on an eGo in mouth to lung mode just like I smoked cigaretttes. I don't remember having trouble getting to sleep, but nicotine is a stimulant and can affect people differently. You might want to use 3mg nic strength a couple of hours before bed. If that doesn't help, switch to 0 nic after supper.

If you are sub-ohming clouds you'll get much more nic absorption than if you do the mouth to lung thing at the same nic level. More vapor equals more nic.

Melatonin is a good aid in helping me get to sleep. It's more about helping to regulate sleep cycles than being just a sleeping pill. Take it at the same time each night (a couple of hours before bed) and it will reset and regulate your sleep cycles.

In order to fall asleep, I need not be vaping for at least 30 minutes. It is impossible for me to relax (not focusing on things) if I am under the effect of nicotine.

By removing the Intake of any psicoactive chemical, the level of neurotransmitters in the brain (serotonin is one of the most important) suddenly drops.

Vivid dreams (both coloured and cinematic) occur as a conseguence of the chemical unbalance in the brain, which skews all cognitive associations behind the dreaming activity.

I'm a teetotal so I can't say about the involvement of alcohol, but beside the initial onset of torpor after a drink, the brain is mostly stressed by the presence of alcohol - which reduces the amount of oxygen available for proper cellular metabolism.

In short. Stop vaping one hour before the moment you intend to fall asleep. I can't say if it is still true if you drank alcohol.

I remember also having an extra cup of coffee that day (total of 3) and eating spicy food. I don'y have 0mg juice, but do have 6mg (my norm is 12mg) so will switch to that in the evening. I do MTL, slow easy draws, no chain vaping, 12mg juice and 1.2 ohm coil. That evening, I basically chain vaped. My normal dreams are variations of the "lost" scenario... different themes, but lost in a big house, city, hiking trail ect (seems to be very common dreams for others I have talked to) Sometimes I have vivid dreams that are basically like watching a movie (and enjoyable) but I don't like dreams where everything is totally whacked out and just confusing... upside down, inside out and backwards. Slept fine last night (moderate vaping)

It really shouldn't be a that different from chain smoking before bed. Levels drop through the night and you wake up wanting a cigarette. Generally, if you can't go without a cigarette for 30 minutes after waking then your tobacco dependance is fairly high.

As to vivid dreams, it occurs wit the patch because you're maintaining nicotine intake throughout the night. Your serum level is stable whereas when smoking or vaping the nicotine levels will decrease through the night.

If you had the same dreams if you chain smoked before bed then maybe it's the nicotine. If not, money would be on the alcohol. No matter what it is, if it's recurring and disturbing start limiting stuff like alcohol in the evening and less vaping before bedtime. Because of the difference and varying concentrations of stuff from smoking versus the 24 hour continuous delivery of nicotine by patch it's hard to compare the two.

I remember dreams occasionally, but not usually vividly. I do remember one particular dream that woke me up out of a dead sleep. I was in fatigues carrying an M16 and running through the jungle with the enemy chasing me. I ducked behind a tree and started firing. Just as they reached my position I woke up suddenly and it took a minute or two to get back to reality. :)

Vaping never seems to keep me from falling asleep and most of my dreams are senseless jumbles in bits and pieces of unconnected scenes. I've read that it's commonly your brain sorting out the latest exposure to life's challenges.

I always try to never drink coffee after 3 o'clock in the afternoon and I switch to 3mg juice if I've been vaping something with higher nic during the day.
