Hey everyone I hope you all are having a good Friday! I've been on the forums a while but never made an account until now because I have some questions and also because I feel the need to join before I make a mechanical mod purchase. I'm thinking about a safe and reliable mech like a kingz v2 clone and a pair of Samsung 25r batteries and to charge would be a nightcore d2 or d4. I do know that mechs can be safe but I also know the possibilities of batteries venting, if there is a locking ring can the mech still fire if it archs and grounds from the metal dripper top cap and the mod itself? Kind of like taking a screwdriver to a cellonoid switch to arch and send juice to the starter. which is another reason I would like to know of a solid clone mech or maybe I could just drill some 2mm holes in the top third of the kingz tube. I won't build below .3ohms and usually I run tanks like the lemo around 2 ohms so I don't know if I would be defeating the purpose or not by running a 2ohm coil on a mech or not because of such low amp pulls. That would be like 5 or 6 amps? Would a 2ohm rebuildable could vape nice on a mech? Would a kingz be a good beginner mech for an experienced builder and safe person? I am grateful to be here and this site has helped me a ton and then some. I'm glad to be here.

I had a mechanical parallel box mod with a derringer RDA on top. The derringer is a short mini RDA. I put a stainless steel drip top on it not realizing the tip was touching the center post and hard shorted it. batteries got hot very quickly. it ruined the mod. I've had several mech mods. to me the most important aspect is the switch. make sure you get one with a well made sturdy heavy duty switch. I haven't bought a mech for several months but the best one I do have is the manhattan clone. It has heavy duty magnets and the tube is very thick. its the only one I can recommend. hope that helps some and good luck.

IMHO, the "safest" mechanical mod today is the AltSmoke Silver Bullet.

  • It has a recessed side fire button, making it unlikely to accidentally fire in a pocket or purse from unwanted button compression.
  • Side fire button is more natural than a bottom fire button.
  • A battery in thermal runaway will likely vent from its top, or positive end. This accumulating gas will result in a metal tube becoming a pipe bomb if the gas can not vent quickly. Inexplicably, most mods have their vent holes in the bottom of the mod, not near the top where the gas will accumulate under pressure. The Silver Bullet's fire button, placed in the upper 1/3 of the tube, is designed to vent gas under pressure.
  • The Silver Bullet uses a "hot spring" in the battery compartment. A hot spring melts or collapses when the battery gets hot enough to vent, and breaks the battery's connection to the atomizer.
  • A Kick extension sleeve is available should you wish to use an 18650 battery with your Silver Bullet and a "Kick". A Kick turns your Silver Bullet into a regulated mod and provides a layer of safety circuitry.
