The first pic is the kit I bought. Second pic is the battery that came with it. The third and fourth pics are extra batteries I picked up at a couple of B & Ms. Always like to have spares. After searching on this forum, I am thinking that none of them are right for my SID. Help a girl out, are any of these safe to use until I get the efest imr 18650s in that I ordered tonight. Been using it for about a week, no
problems. But I would like to know that I am vaping safely. Any info would be helpful. Thanks & vape ON:vapor: image.jpg

I don't recognize any of the three pictured batteries. The blue ones both look like generic (no name brand) batteries. They are probably rebranded batteries for Smoktech, but who knows where they got them? NOT SAFE TO USE.

I recognize the pink Samsung as a recognized name brand, but the model number is one I recognize as safe for mod use. I can not tell the chemistry so NOT SAFE TO USE.

The following 18650 batteries are the only ones I recommend for use in a mod:

AW IMR
18650 2000mah 10A
18650 1600mah 24A

Panasonic or Orbtronic hybrid
CGR18650CH 2250mAh (IMR-Li Ion hybrid) 10A
NCR18650PD 2900mAh (high drain-high capacity) 10A

Samsung hybrid (LiNiCoMnP)
INR18650-20R 2000mah 20A

MNKE IMR
IMR18650 1500mah 20A

Sony IMR
us18650v3 IMR 2250mAh 10A

EFEST IMR
18650 2000mah 10A

All of the above batteries are IMR (safe-chemistry/high drain) or hybrid batteries (made by Panasonic or Samsung). These are recognized as safe batteries to be used in all mods and are recommended. When shopping for batteries, pay attention to the brand and model numbers listed on the battery or product description.

Protected li-ion batteries are no longer recommended as a first choice for mechanical mods. Un-protected li-ion batteries should NEVER be used in a mod. Your mod is a regulated mod, and requires IMR high drain batteries.

Avoid lesser name-brand batteries such as Trustfire, Surefire, and Ultrafire. Do not use generic batteries - these are unknown batteries of unknown quality made by unknown sources; they are likely the rejects of better batteries and rewrapped for sale to discount vendors.

My policy is if I can't identify the battery as a safe one by a known battery manufacturer I won't use it. It's not worth destroying a mod, losing some fingers or teeth, or burning your home to the ground for a $4 battery. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-information/190146-pictures-serious-battery-failure-imr-18650-a.html#post3265928

Your SID does have built-in protection circuitry, so that's a plus. You are probably safe to use the batteries in a temporary situation, but please use these only as a last resort. I'll also recommend you upgrade your battery charger to an Xtar or Nitecore Intellicharger.

I would not use the 3400b in a regulated mod, you should always use high drain batteries.

  • For building Laptop Battery and portable power device needing high energy density and low weight
  • Cycle Performance: 90% of initial capacity at 400 cycles, Cycle life: > 500 cycles
  • Maximum Discharge: Current = 6A charge Current= 0.5C mA Voltage = 4.2 V
  • End Current = 0.01 mA. End Voltage = 3.0V

this is provapes reason why we need high drain batteries and applies to any regulated mod.
even more so with the chinese devices using a slower PWM (meaning the actual voltage spikes are higher.)

The sid has a max output limit of 4a.
while im not sure why it would be in an evic either. the amperage output from the battery in a regulated mod is almost double what is being applied to the atomizer.
voltage does not magically appear from a battery with only 3.5 volts left, The mod has to pull extra current and upconvert this into the correct voltage being asked for. and as the voltage in the battery drops the actual current draw to maintain the setting increases.

many of the mods will run fine on this battery but there is possibly two things happening:
A the mod if strong enough is actually ppulling current past the peak sustainable output of the battery (which means its very good to know the 6to8 second pulse output is usually many amps higher)
or
B the mod is not really putting out the correct voltage as the battery cannot sustain it.
(and could very well explain why user A notices the hit seems week when user B says mine runs fine)

First battery = No
Second battery = ok....not the best...
Third battery = good, but not the greatest.
OK. Teach me something. How are you able to make a determination on battery #2 is "ok...not the best" and battery #3 is "good, but not the greatest"? Curious on how you came to those conclusions bases soley on those pics?

Baditude, I did find that the pink Samsung is used as a replacement battery for the Evic. Joyetech Joye eVic 2600mAh battery That being said, I will def order IMRs. Thanks again everyone. :toast:
Thanks for the link. That said, there is still little information given for that battery. "2600mAh high-safety, extra large capacity, and high-stability dedicated lithium battery." Does high-safety mean safe-chemistry? No safe chemistry LiMn IMR batteries are that high in capacity unless they are a hybrid. If it's a hybrid, specify it in the product discription. Is this a li-ion? Who knows? Is it protected? It doesn't say. Bottom line is not enough information is provided.

Baditude,

I picked this efest battery up from my local B & M today. It is an IMR, will be ordering some AWs this weekend. Is this one better? I noticed that I don't see the 10A on it. Hoping this one will be safe to use until I get my other ones ordered. It fits a little snug, is that ok. Don't have to force it going in, but it does not just slide out of the tube. Also how do I dispose of these generic batteries. Thank you everyone for all your help. Just trying to be a safe vapor:vapor:image.jpgimage.jpg

:thumb: Efest IMR's are a recommended battery. The 10A is a specification of the amperage (continuous maximum discharge rate) which not many vendors add to the product description, but should. Vapors who push their batteries hard (sub ohm RBA usage) need to know this information to vape safely, so I researched to find the specification for easy reference for each battery I recommended.

I've used both Efests and AW, and prefer AW as a more reliable and consistant battery in my personal experience. AW's may cost a little more, but they have been and still are considered the best and most widely available IMR battery available to vapors. This battery has been singled out by the ECF battery guru's as the top-rated safest battery available. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/129569-rechargeable-batteries.html

The pink battery that you have there is the Samsung ICR18650-26F 2600 Mah battery, and it's my favorite. They last me almost 2 days.
It's the battery that usually comes stock with the E-Vic kits and recommended by Joyetech.
So no worry's on that at all since it is a 'safer' chemistry battery and also since your SID has built in protection.
So keep it around - no worries.
:)
