Hey guys:

So a couple years ago I fell off the wagon. Before that, I had made the full transition to vaping, and had actually helped others to do so. But then there was a ....ty breakup, and well... I felt like pounding nails into my lungs. To quote Tyler Durden, "I wanted to breath smoke."

Now I'm back. Or trying to be. I guess I should have known better, but I had reasoned that the Blu's surely must have gotten better over the past couple years, and that with a full cartomizer things would be more reliable. And honestly for the first few weeks it mostly has, but now the equipment is falling apart on me, and I'm remembering now why the Blus were POS equipment. I remembered my old kit (Joye 500's, with the charging pack, I used to vape 24mg from Tastyvaper direct drip), and the blus just aren't living up to that experience.

So I decide to drop in on ECF, which used to be my go-to for good discussion. And man, has there apparently been some progress in the past few years. I feel like a n00b all over again, and even the n00b forum only helps so much. So I did my best and tried to look through the stickies and all to figure out all this progress, but there's there's some fairly confusing info out there. So I've come up with a list of questions:

a) What the heck is a Clearomizer? This sounds like shorthand for a 'clear cartomizer' but that makes little to no sense to me. Explain, please? How does it work?

b) Similarly, what is this 'Tank' innovation? It seems fairly direct, but how do they work vs. the old-school atomizers? How does it work in like... the electro/mechanical sense?

c) I see that people have finally gotten around to variable voltage. What is the current state of this technology in the industry? Is this basically just a manual pot put into the heating element circuit, or is there like some dynamic variance tied to a thermocouple in the heating element with a chip/board of some sort?

d) How has battery/charging changed in the past couple years? I see that there is now 'mid range' (back in the day, there were just the sticks, the giant tubes, and the juiceboxes).

e) juice-- juice is important. My favorite flavors used to be from TastyVapor-- are they still in the top end, or has the industry changed a lot? Are there new juice tricks/mixes/etc?

f) (a) and (b) seem to be an evolution of all the cart mods people used to do. Are there still evolving cart mods, or have people settled on this tank/cartomizer thing?

What I'm looking for:

1) CLOUDS of vapor. Seriously. I used to have a high VG/high nicotine mix that worked awesomely for me (have they figured out how to do high vapor without using VG?)
2) Higher nicotine content. Looking around, I figured out why the Blus aren't cutting it: Not enough nicotine! They're only 18mg at 'high' end!
3) Low throat hit (like ideally none)
4) Long battery life

-I'm willing to carry around roughly the equivalent in volume of a pack of cigarettes. I used to carry around a bottle of juice, the old joye charger pack, and two extra batterys, with the extra carts in the charger pack. Ideally I'd like something a little less fiddly.

-In a perfect world, I would have a battery pack that I could charge overnight and have a full day's use from, and then have 2-3 or them to swap out in case I get dumb and forget to charge or leave the damn thing on the charger when I go to work in the morning. I do have the ability and access to charge a battery pack at work, but would prefer not to /have/ to, as that would mean on the weekends I could be less conscious of charging.

-In terms of atty-- in a perfect world, I would have the full joy of the clouds of vapor and clean flavor of my old direct drip habit without the fiddly bit of carrying around the bottle of juice and having to work the magic of technique to acheive it. That way I could get awesome clouds of vapor while I was say, driving, or doing things I need my hands for. I'm hoping that's what this tank/clearomizer stuff is all about.

-Similarly, something I could use without the thing necessarily being vertical, i.e. laying on the couch playing video games? I remember this being a problem with some of the early juicebox mods, and am curious to see if this applies to the tank atty things.

-I do not particularly care if I am smoking something the size of a large fat cigar or something that looks like a cigarette, or potentially even something that looks like I'm sucking on a juicebox.

-I would prefer not to fiddle with adapters; I would like all my hardware to have matching threads.

-I would prefer minimal atty maintenence, without any particular technical modification. Something that I could use as is without having to do a tear-down and a rebuild.

-I actually kind of like the little LEDs.

-I guess for starters I'm looking for a basic kit in the $50-$100; I may want to compare this 'tank' to other more recent atty developments. I don't include the juice in that; in my view, juice budget and hardware budget are two different things. I would like durable hardware, and am willing to pay for quality.

-Eventually once I figure out what atty/juice method I like best, I will probably be looking to move to a more custom mod kind of kit. I had been eyeing up the juicebox before the messy breakup that knocked me back on the coffin nails. The state of the art in terms of atomizers seems to have advanced quite a bit though, so I guess I want to wrap my head around that with some experience before jumping at a more expensive mod.

Thanks for the help in advance, guys!

Get yourself a couple Vision Spinner batteries. The 1300 mah will last all day but they are a little larger. They have them in smaller sizes. Get a handfull of eGo XL Mega Carts, an eGo charger and some juice. All under $100. This is my go to setup and works great. You get VV and portability without the fuss. The Mega Carts hold up to 5ml of juice and they are cheap to replace when they die. Flavor and vapor is great just dial in that sweet spot. Add the juice and start vaping.

I have a bolt and a silver bullet and other toys but always come back to this on my way out the door for the day.

I would give one piece of advice as far as tanks and clearomizers and all that. The way to go is a vivi nova. Got vapes has them cheap and you fill them once they last all day and they work great. Vivi nova has all the bugs worked out the others don't. Unless you want to stand in line and pay $100 bucks for a really fancy one. So that takes care of A and B.

C. They use a chip set to boost the voltage or lower it. The tech is great. In your price range you simply can't beat a Lava tube. They come in all kinds of names and prices but they are all essentially the same chip set. You can set them so they give a tiny hit or so they blow vape almost too much. If you shop around for a kit you can find a full kit cheap.

Lavatube VV MOD - vapeBIG

LavaTube 2.0 - VariTube.com

Between a Lavatube and the vivi nova you will be at right around the best it gets. Not at fancy as a provari and a genesis but then again it's not going to set you back $400.

Keep in mind this is an all day battery and then some.

As far as I know Tasty Vapor is still as good as it gets. I DIY so I can't really say other than from what I have heard they still rock.
