So I've been vaping for a couple of months now and I'm ready to start trying to use an rba. I'm only using an MVP2 but might get a mechanical clone mod some point soon (I need a couple more paychecks to invest in batteries and a charger). I'm not really a fan of dripping. So I'd like to avoid it for right now, the only thing is I can't tell if an RBA is meant for dripping or not!

Anyone that can offer up some advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks! Kind of goes without saying that I don't have oodles of money to invest in an RBA, maybe at most 30$.

Not many options in that price range. RSST clone, or Kayfun clone. Never used an RSST, but only because Kayfun works exactly as I want.
Might be more but not that I'm aware of.
Kayfun and RSST are both gonna be a little bit over 30 bucks.

Would increasing my budget to about $50 give me anymore options? Also, what kind of wire and wicks should I get?

50 bucks is a good budget for clones and would get you petty much any. As far as broadening it more, I don't think there are much more for a RTA, or rebuildable tank atomizer. But again I'm biased on Kayfun so I haven't looked everywhere for different options. Kayfun, Genesis (RSST), and Aqua are the styles I can think of.

Wire should be kanthal A1. 28 to 30 gauge is most popular. Wicks are up to you, cotton or silica. Both are good have there respected users that swear by them.

RBA=rebuildable atomizer RDA=rebuildable dripping atomizer.
The RSST is a good rebuildable for someone starting out. It is easy to build (wick and coil) and pretty much short proof. It has been highly recommended for beginners in the past

That's great to know, I'll start poking around in that direction. I do have a silly question about RBA's, are those the ones you have to tilt at a slightly upside down angle to use? I ask because the tank appears to be underneath where the coil is.

I have the rsst and it has a little learning curve getting it going, I Also have a tobeco kayfun and enjoy it a lot and much better vape and flavor is awesome running a micro coil with cotton. If you don't mind waiting fast tech has them for 20-30 bucks or state side venders have then for 40-50 bucks. Hope you find one you like.

An RBA is not at all meant for dripping. Especially not a Genesis RBA. A dripper is an RDA.

I'm not sure where you are headed with this, but I'll share what I went through in your place. I'd gotten tired of being unsatisfied with the eGo rigs and got a mech. I tried putting my Protank on it, but that didn't work out well at all. Then I got a genesis RBA, that being one intended to be used with a rolled stainless steel mesh wick, and wound with a kanthal wire coil.

I set about building it by watching the YouTube videos on the subject, and got quite good at it. For this you need the right batteries, the means to check for hard shorts and the ohms of resistance in the coil you wind. You also have to learn to roll a decent SS mesh wick, and wind a coil with kanthal wire.

This involves a learning curve, and will take a little time to pick up, but it's well worth it. There are many on these forums who will deluge you with dripper propaganda, that being their false religion. Do not listen to them. They are radicals out to divert you from the true path and into their own nefarious ends. They will even be so evil as to try talking you into building your RBA as a dripper with cotton. Do NOT be deceived!

Get some SS mesh, an RSST, and some 28 kanthal. Watch the YouTube videos on how to make an SS mesh wick. Winds your own coils and learn how to work out the hot spots. It's not hard at all. In the end you will be much happier and have a very satisfying vape. I still use an RSST built straight genny after almost a year of vaping and I'm very very happy with it. IM me if you want further help.

I actually just got back from Youtube!!! LOL Well, all I could find when researching the Kayfun was micro coil builds. As I said I've only got the MVP2 for right now, so I'm looking for something that I can use with that, and can coil to the right ohm range. From my understanding, sub-ohm vaping should really only be attempted on a mech mod, which I don't have yet. Money is the damnedest thing! So I guess the question is, will an RSST or a Kayfun be feasible on an MVP2? Or should I just hoard my cash and go all out in a month?

WRONG!!!!

I have been using gennys for almost a year now and I've never had to tilt mine, because I know how to build them right. That tilting nonsense is just a cultural affectation.

Want a cookie or something?

He asked which ones needed to be tilted, I answered. No need to boast about your super awesomeness.

You don't need a mechanical mod to use an RBA.

With the RBA you will be able to wrap your own coils instead of buying replacement atomizer heads.
Plus you will be able to use higher gauge wire like 28 gauge for a more sturdy coil compared to the 30 or 32 used in the typical atomizer head; it makes sense to get a roll of 32gauge wire however, because you can twist 32gauge wire together to simulate thicker gauge plus it ends up giving you higher metal surface area.

No. People use a mech mod to subohm because typical regulated mods treat subohm loads as a short.

Newer mods like the DNA-30 offer higher power.

Better to get used to your RBA for a while before attempting subohming.

You guys are awesome, I wish I had time to reply to all of you and ask a couple more questions. I work third shift though and it's about time for me to get to work so I can afford all of these wonderful things! You've all cleared up a lot of questions I had going into this and I'll do a little more searching when I get home in the morning before making a purchase. Please feel free to continue posting if you have anything you feel I should know, any recommendations, warning, advice, etc. It will all be greatly appreciated!!!
