Hi ECF,

I have been vaping for a few months now and love it. Unfortunately for nearly 10 days I have been unable to inhale or exhale from my nose. I have tried multiple juices from different vendors. I have had most of these juices for a few weeks and have vaped them without issues.

I wonder if anyone could help me out. I caved in and have been using analogs for the past 4 days, have no issues with those.

I start coughing as soon as I try inhaling the vapor, feel an irritation in my throat/nose, its quite harsh.

I have no idea why this would happen after months of vaping, and why analogs aren't having the same effect.

Thanks.

Have primarily use Mini Protank II's and a Kayfun Mini. Recoil regularly (use 28 Kanthal and use NR-R-NR welded nichrome for the Protank). I have a ZMAX mod; that I have used to try different Watt settings.

Wick using Koh Gen Do cotton. As I had some silica and boiled cotton I used those too, to see if it would help.

For juices I use 50%/50% VG/PG with 12 mg nicotine. Been vaping at this ratio and strength for 4+ months.

The Juices I use are:

1. Jugheads - Kryptonik (Strawberry, Kiwi, Apple, Menthol)
2. MapleLeafVapes - Arggh Why 4 (RY4) (ADV)
3. MapleLeafVapes - Maplebacco (ADV)
4. MapleLeafVapes - Juicy Fruit (banana)
5. Tried a few others from friends and at a B&M

The first one (Kryptonik) was the least bothersome to my throat - likely due to the menthol, the banana was the harshest.

Did you start up a new flavor? I've found some juices can be extremely irritating, regardless of nicotine content. There's a pineapple liquid my wife loves and I also enjoy but even at 12 mg/ml it's extremely harsh. I assume it's the acidity of the pineapple flavoring, or something along those lines.

I had just started up a new flavor when it started happening. It has since been a problem with all my existing juices too. Some of which I have been vaping for over a month (when I ordered resupplies)

Wish I could think of something to help. Just for the heck of it, I "watered down" some of my juice with plain old VG to see what it would be like, and it's really smooth and generates good vapor. The nic is diluted down too much, but it's kind of nice. You might try something like that to see if it smooths off the rough edges of your vape.

I have had similar issues with my Russian 91%, on a dual coil build with too much wattage applied to the coil. I went back to the single 28G 1.2 ohm coil at 12 to 13.5 watts / 4 or under volts. if your getting that feeling and not burning your wicks it is always a good idea to lower your voltage way down and increase slightly to find out where the best taste is. Hope this helps.

Have you upped the resistance or become more aggressive with the build? If you have increased vapor production at all-the level of consumed nicotine could be the problem (a 12 becomes a lot more assertive with a more dense cloud) I started having problems a few months back and realized it was one of the liquids I was using (must have been allergic to one of the flavors)...Is it affecting the back of your throat or just your nose?

I've had similar issues using 28g wire in my kayfuns. I was running 1.8 ohm compressed micro coils (2mm ID) 12 wraps and have since gone to 7/64 id 8 wrap open coils and it cleared it up for me. If your making tight compressed coils stop. I found that the juice and wicking in the center of a tight coil will burn and cause a harsh vape with a fire like sensation in the back of the throat. On the mini's I wouldn't use anything thicker than 30g personally and no less than 1.8mm id or 1/16 inch. Contrary to the micro coil fans, you don't need to compress a coil to get good even , center out glowing. they just need to be pretty evenly spaced wraps.

I unintentionally watered down one of the juices that is causing me the most discomfort, tried vaping it and did not choke.

I was recoiling and re-wicking a friend's protank 2 mini, and some water got left behind in her tank that I had just cleaned. I was going to dump the juice that got mixed with the water, but decided to try vaping it.

Having some overflow issues as the juice became too thin.

Will try watering down some of my other juices and see if it helps. Will report back soon.

Its affecting both - the back of my throat and nose.

I haven't become aggressive towards vape production. Actually, maybe a tad.

I recently started building micro coils for the Kayfun mini. ie. 1.5ohm micro coils at 6.0watts - 11.5watts. I did find that the micro coils were more assertive.

For the protank coils, I have been building them at 2.2ohms.
