I did! And I applied. I am working on my 2nd one now. The only thing strange is that when I leave my laptop on, it still goes to sleep. I thought the program working would keep it awake? So I don't know if I am contributing as much as I could.

It sounds like your laptop is going into hibernation mode after a certain period. You can change that by going into the control panel and selecting Power Options. You'll have to look around in there to see if hibernation is turned on.

I wanted to add, since I hadn't seen it as of page 65-68 I was reading, unless you are running Uniprocessor, the slider for CPU is not affected.

SMP cores disregard this and the only way you can modify this, even a small factor, is to specify how many cores you wish to run instead of the default -1 setting on SMP. You could also change to Uniprocessor cores but there is some debate as to whether the results are being used or even taken at this time.

While folding my CPU's, even water cooled, sometimes give warnings so be safe. I've since adjusted my SMP slot specify the usage of the same 2 cores the -1 does but it seems to keep the cpu % under 90's and more into the 40~60 range which keeps my processor a bit cooler.

Something for the over-clockers out there. Ran into an issue the last couple of days with BSOD's while my GPU's were working on proj 7624. It was a long project, and was made even longer by the crashes. Figured out that I had to take the OC off my cards (560 Ti's) to get the project to finish. Had worked fine on 30 plus other projects, so I think different ones will stress your system more than others. Have not run into any issues with my OC'd CPU yet (2600k).

Rellen,

I have also have many BSOD on that and other project ID's lately. I have stopped overclocking my single 560Ti but the CPU is still overclocked 1.2ghz but under water and at times I'm getting high temp core alerts.

I think the issue I was having was with the project(s) themselves but I'm also going to be taking off the CPU overclock to test a 24h period. What's funny is as soon as I got through the last 2 WU's (not sure of project off top of head) it's run now 2 days straight 100% folding both cpu/gpu without any reboots or BSOD.

To keep folding during these times I've also set my Win7 desktop to auto-login my account and start folding so if by chance it does reboot or BSOD, I reboot and auto login and all is working again. It's a pain but the lengths we go! ;)

Cheers,
~Icky

DH's laptop just sits all the time, so I fired it up and added it to my account. It sent a very long one! I want to pause it before he gets home, then I can turn it on when he is done with his stuff so there is no chance he will complain about lack of performance on his slow as molasses computer. Is it okay to pause for a few hours?

Yep, it should resume where it left off.

Edit: I think after you unpause it my have to click "fold" again.

I'm also on a water loop and highest temp I've recorded so far is 65c (according to Core Temp app) and my GPU's highest recorded temp was 49c (msi Afterburner) so I'm not too worried about overheating.
Another thing I've found that has caused a re-boot was NetFlix. I think streaming video while three other computers on the router were online caused my last crash. I'm curious as to how much bandwidth this takes.

I haven't had any issues with pausing a WU and starting it again later. I do it all the time when my comp starts to bog down from me having 12 different things open at once lol.

Once you download the WU the bandwidth is nothing really as they are self-contained executables that have a pre-determined course. The only bandwidth that I know of a WU download and upload.

We sound so similar it's scary.. :)

Also running MSI Afterburner and my CPU barely raises in temp and the temp on either core hasn't gone over 50c so good there but the 560Ti does get into the 70F range which, for me, is a bit high.

I'm always running 100% fan-speed and prefer the GPU work units for size, work time and points but lately I believe some of the WU's have been crashing the cuda platform and I've noticed it more in the past few weeks of folding than the prior 1+ million points I've worked on. I may be behind on a revision or two of drivers so I'll check that but all and all I get a BSOD on the GPU WU's maybe once every other day or two. The one I was getting them nearly ever 3-4 hours it seems so it could be just remaining work of the older projects they've recompiled with new instructions.

I also have had a reboot or two while trying to load up some streaming video. Hulu+ and YouTube, while GPU folding, are of course lagged and about the time I realize I've not paused folding and see the lag I do get BSOD's that way. I think your having the same reactions I've had recently with the GPU portion. I bet if we didn't GPU fold we wouldn't experience any.

Just 2c :)

Whoo Hoo! My 2 wk monster WU finally finished. Final credit estimate, 3494.00 points. It had me worried there for awhile. It sat at 99.99% complete for a long time and the ETA said 1 min, 55 seconds for about 30 minutes. I was sure it was stuck. :( But it finished and started a new one. A smaller one. It should be done in 3 days. Whew!

Now I'm going to shutdown, blowout my tower, install a new driver and do some PC maintenance. BBL
