2 days to finish a monster? Do you have a mainframe?

My monster is only worth 700+ points. Yours must be gargantuan.

So far 2 days in and Im running 14K point monsters in 18ish hours, 2 at a time GPU and 1 SMP on 6 cores, the SMP currently shows as 11K. Had a lot of fails the first day but my daily PPD shows between 50K and 62K all the time!!! And I fixed the failing, had to down clock my cards a little bit.

Is smp good or bad ?
I know the 1 computer is old and uses a uniprocessor but folding is all it does-Only reason that its on is that its the hard wire for the printer.
The other is my Laptop which is using smp:2 It says 32 bit but this is a 64 bit Win7pro computer -do I need to try and change that?
I'm sure every little bit helps. I ran SETI for a couple years. Just glad to help. I've lost lots of family to cancer & leukemia I set 1 for Cancer and 1 for Alzheimer's.
I think you started a good thing here :D I've been gone or I would have joined in sooner.

If you have multiple cores, SMP is probably better for score, and more helpful to the Stanford team.

If you are trying to make up the 10 WU boundary quick, I think running multiple copies of the V6 client is better (but a little cheaty).

The problem is the 10 WU bonus requirement does not take into account your true contribution to the cause. My SMP machine (quad core xeon) does about 1 WU per day (lots of points, but low WU).

My really old file server (32 bit only, with 2 slow-... cores, running duel V6 clients), does 2 WU per day (low points though).

If I were to start over I would run 4 V6 clients on my fast machine, then switch to the V7-SMP client once I got to 10 WU.

Unfortunately I had to stop processing on my server at work, I had complaints about the fan sound :(

Working on alternative now.

Awwww dude, you did your best. You'll come back stronger and harder, I have faith in ya!! ;)

Cactus, I don't think it matters about the 32bit vs. 64bit. I'm running Win7 home pro w/64bit. I bet I know what happened on your desktop tho...your Windows firewall probably blocked you and you didn't see the screen pop up asking you to allow the program. Just a guess :)

Dammit! Forgot to boot up my laptop this morning...I need that whopping 400 points a day

It will still take us a month to make top 500.. we need MOAR POWAH!!!

Got my first decent milestone today. Yay! ... My aging homegrown boxes are still making me proud, just plugin along. This team folding effort is spiking my interest in building a nice new i7 rig with twin cudas for powering through some bigger WU's and err ahhh surfing the boards here! :p

I booted up my machine this morning after being off Folding @Home for about a week. It was nice to see that it automatically starts up F@H when the computer is turned on. :) I didn't have to turn the program back on.

I see a few people talk about it running up the electric bills...will there be that much difference? I generally leave my computer on all the time anyway but it is usually in sleep mode before I started with F@H. It doesn't sleep anymore. ;)

Just started but hitting 50k points per day.
A 14k point project has an 8 hour completion time, is that fast? (brand new gaming build so i"m hoping it is)
Does anyone know if this is pure CPU computing or if it also uses GPU? and also if this is network intensive or if its more download a few files do the work then upload data? Because if its constantly downloading that's a problem because my wifi is terrible.

I envy everyone's speedy machines... I'm getting between 1500-1800 PPD here :p
Plugging away though, and I know every little bit helps.

Aside from the couple hours they use it after school, my kids' laptop sits unused. I'm considering installing the FaH client on it, too, and letting it run when they're not using it. Wouldn't be much I'm sure, but it'd still be something, right?

The Internet usage is fairly low, more like you said. Download some files, crunch numbers then upload results. Rinse and repeat. What Gpu are you running? Cause that 14k project sounds like a Nvidia 6xx series to me. My Gtx 460 takes about 14 hours for the same size file. Of course I'm running 2 of them :)
