Sweet rig Loft. I'm jealous ;)

I literally just got Ubuntu to finally boot on the crappy dell I never use (though it's always on) and now I must try and get F@H running. I spent like 5 hours total trying to get it to complete installation. Also, I almost killed my laptop last night. What I did doesn't need to be mentioned lmao. I was getting ready to be committed to building a new desktop LOL. I really want a new desktop but my bank account also really says NOPE. Kinda glad it's working again. It was totally dead last night, wouldn't turn on or anything. Who knows how long it's going to last. (NO MORE LENOVO FOR ME)

Now at ~25k points :)

does f@h run any faster without going through windows? i got some older computers im thinking of setting back up to fold on....

Not sure if this was directed towards myself, but I don't see why it would run faster or slower on either. I just don't like windows so I run Ubuntu. Linux is much lighter on resources than Windows, so I've notice. Linux will run on older machines a lot better than windows will. If do ever need it, I have Windows XP installed as a virtual machine which works very well. I haven't used windows on any of my machines for nearly two years and I'm not looking back. I've even got my mother using Ubuntu :p

thanks ride - the question was inspired by you lol I have a copy of I think ubuntu that runs entirely from a cd. got me thinking about copying it to the tiny drive in a couple of these 'junk' computers i got laying around if it might make them go a little faster. prolly wont fool with it though as im sure there is already a functional windows os on most of them and Im not sure I have time to learn a new os right now....

Ubuntu does run F@H a little better, actually. Generates more points due to the sheer fact it doesn't have as many resources in use. There are other distros you can use that have an even smaller footprint but I'll be honest - I'm not helping set it up. lol...

Thanks for the positive comments, makes me smile. :)

I don't know who else runs Linux up in here :unsure:

For older machines use DSL ( Damn Small Linux)......50MB foot print. I run DSL on one of my machines.....actually i think it's booted into windows...crap. My Main rig is using running Mint with a 7 VM if I need it( which I never use). Once I get the newbies trained and get more RAM I think I am going to switch my work PC to Mint or Ubuntu 10.04 as well.

Brought two more machines online tonight....hopefully another two or 3 here soon.

Personally I like Crunchbang... but am going to be running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS for folding.
