good grief how do you get 32 cores in one pc? I must really be behind the times LOL

Datacenter cpu's. AMD Opteron G34. 8 cores per cpu and I have a motherboard on the way that supports 4 of those cpu's at the same time. The cpu's are cheap but the motherboard alone was 660... But the entire build is under a grand with two cpu's.

I know...right?! When I built this quad core, it was hot stuff! All my gamer guildies were jealously lagging with their graphic turned way down. I was pew pew'ing away and dieing like a good little mage ;)

heh thats how I felt when I built the Pentium D system years back that I am still running on right now (and Im not really a gamer either lol). Since its a custom setup the motherboard only fits in this specific case (its a BTX system) so upgrading would basically mean starting over which I cant afford to do. Best thing I could prolly do with it is switch it to the Pentium D Extreme 965 chip but I havent been able to find it for less than like a 100 bucks and it just aint worth that.
Loft if I ever get enough money to build a new rig I might just have to give you a call :D

You would have to manually configure each slot and assign the cores to different threads (assuming) so they don't fight each other for resources.

That was my problem, seems that the gpu in slot 0 would start fighting the gpu in slot 1 for resources and that would drag the smp down kinda like a ref in a hockey game.. My productivity went down hard so I went and cleared everything out and lost 2 days of work that was never going to end as it was.

Alright, I'm back. Stability testing is done. Since I couldn't get the cpu cooler to run push/pull due to size constraints I've had to tone it down to 4.7ghz - but it stays under 70c and makes me happy. Tuesday the motherboard should be here for the Opteron build and I'll have pictures of it asap. Need to clean my desk as well... I've turned into a bit of a slob since my main system fell apart.

I'm back! :D I've been without internet connection for exactly 1 week. :( The wu I was working on when I moved started back up at the last checkpoint and it has 5+ days to complete and it times out on the 9th. That's cutting it pretty close. But it says it doesn't expire until the 18th. I don't know what the difference is between "timeout" and "expire" but I haven't lost it yet. :)

The move went really good but I've been going nuts not having internet or TV, just tap-a-crap and I hate typing on my phone and it's sooooooooooooooooo slow.

My internet connection (cable) was suppose to be in the day after I moved in but they forgot to mention that cable isn't available where I move to. Dumb asses! So I wait several days while they figure out how to get cable to me and I got tired of waiting so I called Century Link and got hooked up today. Now to figure out how to hide all the bald spots on my head. :-x

Welcome back Terry!

I hate apartment living too. I always get the neighbors who want to party all night. Not that living with my mother in law is much better

Thanks Bovinia. I feel so much more comfortable and at ease here. No more quarterly manager inspections/invasions, no more false fire alarms and evacuations which happened every other month and most importantly I have my privacy back. I didn't have to pay for electricity there and I do here so I'm wearing more clothes than before and my cat sits in front of the furnace vent all day.
